I forget that schools really are a government operation and that makes them inflexible just by definition. Its interesting, as a software consultant I can only ever make certain changes after-hours. The actual time will vary as certain customers has different times for change control. One of them only allows you to work at 11 pm on a Saturday night which is frustrating as with proper internal communication there is no reason the work I have to do can't be done on a Saturday afternoon. Malcador Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Probably gonna start hunting for a new job. McD's is just killing me way to quick and it's gotten to the point where eI dread going to work. First place i'm gonna try is Wells Fargo. Tellers get WAY more than I currently do, and if all else fails after college, I can turn it into a longer term position (supposedly I'd start at $10) If you work for them, I'm obligated to hate you. My uncle is an electrician for the board, and has got called in at ungodly random times. You see, ever since the whole Doritos Locos Tacos thing, Taco Bell thinks they can do whatever they want.
Hurlshort Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 That is a bit odd GD, we have night janitorial staff at our school (although I think they clock out by midnight) as well as a security guard that patrols a few different campuses. Every union is different though, they all have their quirks.

Looks to be good work - particularly for those putting themselves through college. I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Calax Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Yeah, according to the woman I talked to, I'd start at 10, which is about a dollar and a half above my current. And it seems like you could keep going up much more easily than you would at McDonalds (where you work for 15 years and don't get a store management slot). Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
Tsuga C Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Alaska is mostly wilderness, so a bit different than Michigan. Rights are rights no matter where you live. Besides, Michigan is in the top 10 states for acres of forest cover. The lower half of the Lower Peninsula is where most of the population resides and is city, suburb, and farm country. Get to the top half of the mitten or the Upper Peninsula and things are very different, indeed...thank God! It's interesting that even our resident libertarian is a bit put off by Tsuga's gun talk. It makes me feel better about all the eyebrows I raise reading his posts. He's young and I still have hopes for him. You, on the other hand, are most likely a lost cause as you're from California and a "moderate" out there is anyone slightly to the right of Barbara Boxer or Governor Moonbeam. http://cbrrescue.org/ Go afield with a good attitude, with respect for the wildlife you hunt and for the forests and fields in which you walk. And it seems like you could keep going up much more easily than you would at McDonalds (where you work for 15 years and don't get a store management slot). I can't speak for WF, specifically, but I have worked as a bank teller. It's has a lot of the drawbacks one generally associates with customer service jobs, but it ain't bad. The worst part is the pressure from management to leverage client contact into selling additional products (e.g., make referrals to investment advisors). The best part is that you get to know the local business owners who come in regularly to deposit their take and get coin & small bills for customer change. Knowing the owners of local shops, diners, etc., has perks. Also, you get very good at using an adding machine and keyboard num-pad. I got a physical on Tuesday and went back this morning so they could take blood for a cholesterol test. The guy who scheduled it misled me-- he said that I could come in as early as 8, even though the appointment he made was officially 9:30. I get there at 8:15, and end up waiting for 45 minutes or so before they could get around to sticking a needle in me. Historically, I've done fine on cholestol tests-- or at least better than I have any right to expect, given my middling overall fitness level-- but it's been a couple years, so it'll be good to get another data point. The Doc did recommend going to see a dermatologist to make sure none of my moles are problematic. Not exactly looking forward to that.

They won't let them work at night. I was at Pritt HS today, they had a student escorting me. He was a office aide or something like it. He was really interested in what I was doing and kept asking me about the project, technology etc. He asked me how you get a job like this. I laughed and told him that all you have to do is try you hand at a number of different careers and fail miserably at every one of them. 5 "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Woldan Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 HIT (High intensity training) with my bike, did some 60 kilometers across extremely hilly terrain and now I'm completely trashed. A couple of times I almost passed out. 60 does not seem to be a lot but I'm heavy and I really don't have the physique of a professional cyclist. Overall a disappointing day, I thought I could do 80 easily. I gazed at the dead, and for one dark moment I saw a banquet.
Tsuga C Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I was going to bet I was older than you my friend...but I think I'd have lost! Most likely you would have as I'll be 46 on Earth Day, April 22. I'm not sure how much time you've spent in California, but I live closer to the farmlands and a bible belt than Berkeley. Also, and this has surprised pretty much everyone, Governor Moonbeam has become a fiscal conservative in his old age. He's made huge cuts from the last Republican governor, that's for sure. We are even looking at a budget surplus in the years to come.
LadyCrimson Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I'm from California and I have what I'd call an odd mix of liberal and right-wing. Mostly, I don't consider myself specifically party related, since my views on issues crosses into both territories, so to speak. I don't like being pigeon-holed into a political "party," either. One can be liberal in one area and very conservative in another. Hubby (also raised in CA) is more conservative in more areas than I am, but he's nowhere near what people think of when they say "Republican," either. I became tired just reading that sentence. ...I like being in good shape (and used to be so) but I am also so very lazy, as well as having a lot of back/knee injury and arthritis issues. Maybe it'd help with someone standing next to me screaming in my ear. Anyone want to volunteer? “Things are as they are. Tsuga C Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 (edited) 60km? I became tired just reading that sentence. Woldan is the second near-tireless Terminator to come from Austria. If he ever comes around knocking on doors in your neighborhood while asking for Lady Crimson, tell him that she moved to Des Moine, Iowa. Woldan: that was nothing to be at all disappointed about, my friend. Bravo! P.S. Nice new Jack avatar. Its a matter of physique I guess, as a weight lifter I cant be a cyclist and visa-versa...which is pretty sad as I love cycling AND lifting. Anyone want to volunteer? Wait, I need a couple of minutes to remember all the Full Metal Jacket quotes from drill sergeant Hartman. I gazed at the dead, and for one dark moment I saw a banquet.
LadyCrimson Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 ts a matter of physique I guess, as a weight lifter I cant be a cyclist and visa-versa...which is pretty sad as I love cycling AND lifting.I tend towards the muscular build/it's really easy for me to build muscle, and was into cycling and gymnastics. But I also liked ballroom dancing and a bit of ballet and frankly, even tho I could do the dancing well enough in form, I was too "heavy" (combined with short) to look Grace Kelly graceful while doing it, which annoyed me on a personal level. And my long-distance for anything was always lacking in comparison to shorter or sprinting-sorts of things. I figured it was more a lack of the long-distance training in my case but yeah...I'd imagine the physique has the effect too. “Things are as they are. I accidentally found out I was going to be a good machinist after I won the job due to my experience in Quality Control, and the work I've done with bikes, and bowling pin setters from the 60s. It (along with electrical) was probably the only things I didn't take in high school. You see, ever since the whole Doritos Locos Tacos thing, Taco Bell thinks they can do whatever they want.
Woldan Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 (edited) @ LadyCrimson Sounds like we are both members of the white muscle fiber club. We' cant deny what we are, and thats lifters and sprinters, nothing wrong with that. When I started doing sports I always wanted to be an ultra-long distance runner or cyclist, I never wanted to be one of those boring bloated meatheads sitting in gyms doing dumbbell isolations all day long, but it turned out that I'm great at lifting and growing muscles while being barely average at endurance sports.Genetics rule over our lives, there is not much we can do about that. Guard Dog Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I'm packing up the truck tonight and going fishing and camping for the next five days! I can not wait to get out of here. I'm going to Old Stone Fort State park and the Duck River therein. It's right on the western edge of the Smokes and it's one of a the few that will let me take Tommy to all parts of the park. I always figured I wouldn't be caught dead in a place where my best buddy wasn't welcome. Speaking of which we're going to the VFW for dinner, drinks and a few dog biscuits for him. See you guys next week. 4 "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Woldan Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Sounds like a lot of fun, relaxing outdoors and fishing far away from civilization, it can't get much better than this. I gazed at the dead, and for one dark moment I saw a banquet.
