Yeah. I have it bought and preloaded. It feels like it's mocking me.

Regional lockouts for digital products is just insulting (I understand why it happens, but the gaming industry really should try and find a way where it isn't needed)

Strongly considering a VPN as well. It's only needed to unlock, after that it can be turned off?

Well at least someone understand it :) I still don't. If Blizzard can do global launches, why can't the rest of the industry?

It can be turned off but you might want to put steam into offline mode, I've used a VPN several times to get around lockouts, no issues :)

It's kind of put me on the spot: a boxed imported copy costs pretty much the same as the cheapest digital purchase I can get; I want a physical copy but I also want to play on release day and not wait for ~2 weeks for delivery.

Might end up buying both and giving away the product key that's in the box I guess. Still sort of ridiculous since I expect there'll be nothing in the case except for one disc and a leaflet or two, but I really want something on my shelf....

Actually that reminds me, I did more or less the same with The Witcher 2, except for the giving away of the key part - was an even bigger expense since it was the CE.

This is one of the games that I pre-ordered a while back that I forgot I actually pre-ordered.

Finished the demo. Left me rather unenthusiastic. Ah well, you can't win them all :(

So, what are the bad bits ?

I've not played for very long so keep that in mind.

So far, main bad bits for me are the "story/cutscene" bits. I'm not sure how much of this is related to the tutorials but when you start, there is a fair amount of listening to various people in your base talking about this and that. It makes the beginning rather boring (because what they say is not particularly interesting).

Once that gets abit more spaced out, the game gets a lot more engaging.

Also, the PC controls are a bit awkward at times. It's still pretty easy once you learn it but it could've been better.

Great thing is that the game can actually be really hard. Making tactical withdrawals, losing a mission just to save some of your squadmembers is very much a thing here.

I highly recommend playing this on Ironman (whatever difficulty level you may feel comfortable at) just to have some extra tension going. That isn't something I normally recommend in games per say (just for hardcore people) but it feels right here I think.

EDIT: Forgot to mention... Quite possibly the biggest flaw is in the combat-missions. The Line of Sight feels completely off at times, I've had some real clipping problems, people shooting through walls and such. That is disappointing because it cab the actual gameplay quite a lot.

I'm really enjoying it all in all though.

Well, that's not too bad then, LoS issues might be a bit annoying but nothing one can't suffer through. I assume the night missions are suitable scary (I sitll have reluctance to even attempt those)

I started my first game with the tutorial, but the game actually locked up during one of the tutorial missions and I couldn't complete the action it wanted me to. So I restarted the game with the tutorials disabled, and there was a lot less hand holding. If you played the demo, there really is no reason to have the tutorial enabled.

The base design is interesting, you excavate rooms and different levels to expand. The missions have been good, but I haven't fought anything other than sectoids yet so I'm sure they will get harder. The satellite idea is interesting, basically you are slowly creating a network of coverage so you can pick up alien activity, and you can place fighter jets across the world to intercept alien aircraft. It is a pretty cool system.

So I had a brief vacation to the US today, and unlocked my game.

Have to admit I'm loving it so far. I'm playing it on classic ironman difficulty, and yeah. It's definitely difficult. I've already restarted once and am going to restart my second time soon. I got a bit stumped the second dime when I didn't use the tutorial, because my second sattelite never showed up (in the tutorial it felt like it was just handed to you, but of course it has to be built). So My financial means aren't what they should be. That and some positioning issues causing to lose my best soldier for the third time made me think it's time for another go.

The game sure has a learning curve and isn't afraid to punish you for mistakes. And I love it. Fantastic game all around so far.

I had two missions that were total failures. One was a terror mission where 2 (out of 5) guys ran for the hills and I evacuated because my best soldier was 1 of the 2 remaining and I didn't want ALL rookies for the next mission!

I have had 4 countries withdraw and it has NOT gone well at all :D :D D: D:

Classic Ironman FTW!

Yeah, I lost my heavy sarge on an escort mission this morning due to an interrupt, and I groaned, but the rest of my squad pulled it out with a few scrapes and bruises. One guy went down to one health and earned the nickname Android.

This really is the game I've been waiting for since JA2. I really love having a good new tb tactical combat game.

Something I really dislike also is that the aliens get a seemingly free move whenever you "discover" them, I hate that.

Also, goddamn... Royally screwed up one of the 'disarm the bomb' missions. Managed to only save one of the squadmates and the bomb went off.
