SadExchange Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Started writing again instead of gaming, 8000 words into my second novel attempt. Wish me luck! Good luck. I got a little over 29,000 words into mine and stalled out.
Hassat Hunter Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Not saying F2P is bad... actually, quite saying staring blindly on subscription is a downfall for MMO's. And with subscriptions faltering... I can see them trying to raise their "subscripters" instead of doing the wise thing, going F2P and actually getting more players and add revenue through transactions. They could cash considerably from "singleplayers" who might like a small x-pack but no subscription for example. But of course WOW being subscriptors still will probably deter them from doing that, trying to go on "the old fashioned way". I was pretty much putting a connection between "succesful running" and "f2p"... nothing more, nothing less. Even Valve claims they should have done that with Team Fortress 2 from the start... ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. Morgoth Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Just started playing a bit Saints Row The Third. Oh wow, I think I have to take everything back I said before. That is one crazy piece of entertainment - in a very very cheerful and enjoyable way. Rain makes everything better.
Monte Carlo Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Started writing again instead of gaming, 8000 words into my second novel attempt. Wish me luck! Dude I'm on number six and waiting on the publisher (again) to roll the dice of fate! What's it about?
entrerix Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 my last one was a medieval story about a guardsman who ended up having to secret a princess out of a kingdom during a civil war, I got about 40,000 words into it before crapping out this one is easier, its about a college student who gets involved in a series of murders disguised as suicides. my writing voice is ten times easier to play with when the characters involved are all based on people I know, and the setting is one I'm actually familiar with to some degree (as opposed to fictional fantasy lands) six novels monte!? so many! have any been published yet? Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.

Only two have made it as far as publishers for consideration. I have an agent, though, which is great. The market is in a crazy place at the moment. Seeing as I don't write: soft SM porn for housewives, teen Post-Apoc emo fiction, Scandie crime or vampire romance I'm kinda out of fashion Edited June 6, 2012 by Monte Carlo 1
Tale Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 It's really disturbing that "teen supernatural romance" has become so popular I actually saw a dedicated section at Barnes & Noble. 2 "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Monte Carlo Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 :: shrugs :: Genres are genres. New ones evolve all the time, Science-Fantasy was seen as 1970's heresy by fantasy and sci-fi grognards, for example. It's easy to hate. I try not to. But when you get saturation of a genre it grates... and publishers (not surprisingly) want to jump on the next cash-cow and milk it to death. I'm hardly suffering for my art: I want to be a journeyman hack author... but I write thrillers and crime and that's my beat. It feels phoney doing something else because my heart ain't in it. 1
Tale Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I still see Science-Fantasy as a bit of heresy. But at least it doesn't get its own signage. Teen supernatural romance is just an oddly specific genre to dedicate space to. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

Teen supernatural romance is just an oddly specific genre to dedicate space to. That's because Sci-Fi and Fantasy fans are a broad church, and surprisingly tolerant. Also, the folks who read that teen vampire crap don't go to book shops much --- they *need* the signage.
Malcador Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I love the horse racing murder mystery genre, myself. 1 Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra
Monte Carlo Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 (edited) I love the horse racing murder mystery genre, myself. Apart from **** Francis, I'm struggling to think of another author ploughing this niche furrow. Although, allegedly, Mrs. Francis wrote them all. Since **** passed away, his son does them now. D.1ck Francis. FFS, the derivative of Richard is filtered. Bollocks. Edited June 6, 2012 by Monte Carlo
entrerix Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 this page has become very relevant to my non-gaming interests! i've grown to really dislike the idea of "genre fiction". A good book is a good book. Following specific genre guidelines to please a publisher is something I'm not interested in doing, though sometimes what I write will tend to fall near (or into) a genre incidentally I certainly don't have any delusions that I'll become some great author of timeless classics, but i'm too arrogant to consider making my already dumb books even dumber to please the absolute lowest common denominator. of course, for that, and many other reasons, i probably won't ever actually get published - but I like to write so I'll just keep at it Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.
Gfted1 Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Only two have made it as far as publishers for consideration. Would you consider sharing either via .pdf or are you going to make me buy it once it gets published? Or maybe just a few chapters? "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
Labadal Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Playing Neverwinter Nights 2. I just reached Fort Locke. being an evil douche. I usually never play as an evil character through and through. I usually mix it up, but this time, I'm going to do it like it should be done. Already killed a few named NPC's. I can't help it, but I always feel guilt when I do, even if it's a game.

C2B Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 (edited) Finished FFXIII-2. Ended up being one of my favourite FF's (And fixing nearly all of my problems with XIII) Edited June 7, 2012 by C2B
GhostofAnakin Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I came across one of the creepiest glitches I've encountered in a game. In China, there's that one prostitute that you get missions from. Well, one time I returned to her room to find nothing but her torso sitting on the floor. No head, no arms, no legs, just a torso. And it spoke to me. HoonDing Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I believe in China you can bribe a prostitute into giving you information, then immediately afterwards knock her out and take your money back. Hilarious. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Orogun01 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Maybe I'm easily impressed or influenced; that may have something to do with me retaking the drinking habit, but i've been playing Max Payne 3 and I've suddenly began narrating my own life with his voice in my head. Normally I would just sweep it under the rug with all the crazy **** I do, but I know myself and all that means its that I've enjoyed the game. Probably my GOTY. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.

Second, why the ancient version without the ancient patch. 3... enable your cheatconsole, since it and "warp 003ebo" will probably be required to leave Nar Shaddaa now. ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. Hurlshort Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Played a new game of Mount and Blade: Fire and Sword. It didn't go well early one, I was captured twice and lost my horse. But now I've got a decent little band of fighters and I'm starting to get a bit more dangerous. I'm still pretty poor, but I'm woring my way up. This version plays very different than Warband and the original.
