Malcador Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Would have to worry about all their imports then. I have to say France whining at NATO for not doing enough, the rebels blaming the US for not doing more, and just the general incompetence of the rebels themselves has to be making Gaddafi chuckle. Walsingham Posted April 18, 2011 Author Posted April 18, 2011 Well, we shall find out sooner than later. At least I have prepared for the worst. I'm guessing you haven't. And besides which preparing for the worst could be a grotesque waste of resources. The same resources capable of exploiting better conditions and delivering ultimately more resilience, both emotionally and materially. That was more coherent than I had intended. "It wasn't lies. Walsingham Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 I know the media are making it sound like Vietnam, but so far as I can tell it really isn't. 1. Numbers - simply too few to train anyone in infantry skills. They really must be going to teach them staff skills. It's still useful. But it's not anything like the tales of combat advisors tagging along in the early days of Vietnam. 2. With basically every rebel in the field when would you train them? Would they even react well to being told to soldier in the professional sense? I think not. 3. Everything I've ever read about urban fighting suggests the only way to learn it is to do it. The rebels are already doing it. Let them get on with it. 4. Finally, it's the logistics and operational control which the rebels are getting bongo'd on. So by sticking to just that we can achieve a lot of 'good' without anyone coming home in a casket. ~~ I think the really interesting thing is how fast the merc-lead training got shot down. Morgoth Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Why do we want these "rebels" to win, again ? Funny, dictators in other countries like Jemen mow down their citizens in the dozens or hundreds, yet I don't hear anything about these atrocities from the US/NATO. No "humanitarian" mission there. Must be because they have no oil. Rain makes everything better.
Walsingham Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 FFS, Morgoth we've been over this a million times. Wars cost money. If they aren't remotely beneficial to the economy of the country funding them, then ...er... they don't ****ing work. But that still doesn't mean it's only about money. Zoraptor Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 (edited) Looks like they swore the Hypocritic Oath rather than the Hippocratic one :caruso: Why do we want these "rebels" to win, again ? Funny, dictators in other countries like Jemen mow down their citizens in the dozens or hundreds, yet I don't hear anything about these atrocities from the US/NATO. No "humanitarian" mission there. Must be because they have no oil. Well, there is Bahrain which does have oil. And has what is basically an organised pogrom of the Shia designed to crush them permanently going on right now under the mandate of foreign forces with systematic destruction of Shia religious sites and such wonderful humanitarian gestures as arresting doctors who have treated protesters as well as torture and beating to death of said prisoners. All done to a crescendo of criticism from the great supporters of freedom in the West, of course. Edited April 21, 2011 by Zoraptor
Walsingham Posted April 22, 2011 Author Posted April 22, 2011 I'm going to step a degree further right, in case anyone's tracking me, and suggest that NOT invading countries with oil while stampeding towards countries with none nor any other mineral assets is going to make not one single currently unhappy 'intellectual' any more happy. You're still going to find a hundred other reasons why America is evil, and we are it's little dancing puppets. obyknven Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 The Pacte Coloniale Agreement enshrined a special preference for France in the political, commercial and defence processes in the African countries. Without Gadhafi, the pan-African movement is dead. He was the only prominent voice driving that movement. He was keeping those ideas alive. There
