sorophx Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 don't you like cakes? Walsingham said: I was struggling to understand ths until I noticed you are from Finland. And having been educated solely by mkreku in this respect I am convinced that Finland essentially IS the wh40k universe.
WorstUsernameEver Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 don't you like cakes? You see what's the problem with memes in general? They start funny, most are not really so funny but they are KIND OF funny, then people start repeating them ad nauseam until they repulse me.
sorophx Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 yeah, I know, I was just screwing around I agree with you, the cube and the "cake is a lie" grew way out of proportion, I knew about it long before I played Portal for the first time Walsingham said: I was struggling to understand ths until I noticed you are from Finland. Purkake Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Leave the Companion Cube out of this, it's not a meme and never has been.
WorstUsernameEver Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Bioware developing unannounced handheld title.

Oner Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 The trailer was cute. Also, rebuilding the guy who died doesn't mean it's the same ****ing person! When will people finally learn this! Purkake Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 (edited) I don't really like the look of the characters, but I'm sure it'll be fun(and exponentially more disorienting). The fat one looks kind of like a Modron... Edited September 11, 2010 by Purkake
Morgoth Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 New interview with Valve's Gabe Newell, about how hard it will be to program next-gen engines. Rain makes everything better.
Malcador Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Gyah, that close up on his face is disconcerting. Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra
Purkake Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 (edited) No new Source for next 10 years confirmed! Edited September 14, 2010 by Purkake
Tale Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Why does a meme have to be funny to be relevant? It's culture. Do Christmas trees have to make you laugh? What about presents being wrapped with ribbons? Is the only valid culture the culture you grew up with? While "the cake is a lie" is a phrase that struggles to find relevance, objects such as the companion cube can be simple icons. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Wrath of Dagon Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Translation: You better buy it from us, since you'll never be able to write it yourself. "Moral indignation is a standard strategy for endowing the idiot with dignity." Marshall McLuhan
Morgoth Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Valve's not gonna sell their Source Engine as long as they don't update their ****ty Hammer Editor for 21th century standards. Rain makes everything better.
Purkake Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 A whole bunch of developers are still using command line-based editors AFAIK. They are probably in-house engines, though.
Tale Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 A whole bunch of developers are still using command line-based editors AFAIK. Who are these people? "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Morgoth Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Work with the UnrealEd and then try Hammer - there are world inbetween. Not saying that Hammer is bad per se, but Unreal is more flexible and has the better art pipeline. With Source, you still have to create script files to use basic shader information. With UnrealEd, you can create materials/Shaders on-the-fly with a great UI. But hey, the end result really matters. Rain makes everything better.
WorstUsernameEver Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 21th .... Talking about licensed engines I have yet to see a game done with CryEngine with the exceptions of Crysis and Aion. A pity (well, at least from my point of view, I don't know whether it's a pain to work with or not) since actually it seems pretty damn scalable.
Morgoth Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Good question. CryEngine should be more used outside of Crytek. Maybe devs are just afraid of ze Germans. Rain makes everything better.
Tale Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 (edited) I think the devs should have demonstrated its ability to do more than just palm trees and water. Then it might have caught someone's attention. Man, I'm feeling obnoxious today. Ignore me. Purkake Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 A whole bunch of developers are still using command line-based editors AFAIK. Who are these people? Well, Telltale for one.

That sneaky Telltale Tool, eh? I always knew there was something up with that. Ever since that Telltale employee made me this avatar. I could just smell the command lines on it.
