Meshugger Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Bleh, i hated the gameplay in Mass Effect. I can tolerate how it is in NWN2, KotOR and such though. With turn based combat it would've been "teh win!". Final Fantasy X had the best system, more games should do it that way where you can plan and execute with full control in your own time. Alpha Protocol seems to suffer from this as well, but hopefully it will be more like Deus Ex, where it actually felt like a shooter. Unlike Mass Effect, who didn't know what it supposed to be. Humodour Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I wouldn't bother buying Mass Effect if I were you. Not worth it. Well, maybe worth it for a few hours, but not worth more than $10, maybe $15 in a bargain bin,

It is simply sluggish. Compare it to Halo and laugh. Morgoth Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 deus ex was a better shooter AND a better rpg than mass effect. imo No, Deus Ex was a lacklustre Shooter and no RPG at all. It was however the combination of several features that leveraged it into greatness. Rain makes everything better.

Kaftan Barlast Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) The Diablo games belong to subgenre of RPGs thats called "roguelikes". The official academic definition of an Action-RPG is any game that has stats, abilities, perks and so on. but where you directly control your characters moves. Such as Gothic, Mass Effect or Fallout 3. Arkan Posted November 7, 2009 Author Posted November 7, 2009 Back to Mass Effect. I just got my new PC yesterday, but when I downloaded ME through EA's download manager, at the very end of the install process it tells me it could not copy the file saferun.exe and saferun.dll (or something along those lines), and the installation finishes unsuccessfully. I've tried the manual install trick at the Bio forums, but that just got me to an odd Unreal Engine screen that I had never seen before and just hung there. Any help? This is really driving me nuts. Purkake Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) No idea, but the EA download manager is really bad compared to Steam and Co, you have to pay extra to be able to redownload the game after like 6 months. Edited November 7, 2009 by Purkake
Theseus Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Let the problems begin! Windows 7 64bit Can't get it to start. I bought it through steam and after it downloaded I went to play and it started to update Direct X (step 1 of 2) and then puff nothing happened. Now when I go to click on Mass Effect I get the loading circle followwed by nothing. I tried to update Direct X nothing happened. Drivers are upto date. I ran in compatibility mode, even with administrators access and still the same results. They need to patch this game for Windows 7 i suppose.
