FO: NV

Recommended Posts

So, what do we actually know about NV's gameplay?

It'll be like FO3. But better. Or something.

It's not about slowing the rate of reaching skill max, it's about the level of variation possible and how you balance specialist players against jack of all trades/masters of none.

I'm not saying turn 100 into the new 50, that would be silly and change nothing. Clearly, if they raised the skill ceiling they'd have to rebalance the whole system.

Lowering the amount of skill points at each level is also no fix because that would completely alter how the player approaches levelling. If you only have 5 points to work with, and it's the beginning of the game, are you even going to consider putting that into anything but your "main" skills (probably combat)? It puts too much pressure on the jack of all trade players who would prefer to dabble in the more 'useless' skills and potentially narrows the focus of the game altogether.

Meanwhile, a wider breadth would allow the specialists to get a healthier taste of the huge benefits and deficiencies of their build.

So, you want more skills to choose from? I don't have any issue with that.

You did say:

"I say extend the level cap to a point where it will take a very dedicated player to reach it (like, 100)

And then allow the skills themselves to be leveled up to 200-300."

Which is why I've been arguing for keeping the level max at 20-30 and skill max at 100. Ack, you are confusing me sir! You were either joking or I'm not getting what you are getting at. :sorcerer:

I wonder if you'll be able to kill children in this one.

Probably not, but I really think they'd get away with it if they made them die with less gore/decapitations than everything else.

I really hope they don't bother. Games are in the press much more than they were a decade ago, and it's simply an irresponsible decision to allow it. It doesn't add anything to the game.

This is kind of a non-issue for me. Personally, I don't care, but I do know some folks want to be able to do it. The only reason that I can see putting killable children in the game is for certain role-playing preferrences and for some sort of continuity. This ranks right up there with sex in games. I don't personally care about it and I don't understand the depth of feeling attached to it. But, hey, I hate romances in games which seems to be really popular.

I would tend to think that because of the graphical improvements, it's not directly relatable to fallout 2. It would simply be too much.

Unless perhaps there were no death animations other than falling down, e.i. no gore. The killing of children could be an important character driven moment,

We all agree that the Karma system is hugely out of whack, we'll the killing of children could represent a real choice between good and evil, so long as the character doesn't profit from it.

Here is a question I have. Will there be a GECK (the Fallout Tools Set) made specifically for Fallout: New Vegas, or will the one already released by the only one we need to make mods for the game? If that is the case will New Vegas and Fallout 3 resources be interchangable?

I just disagree with the way RPGs nowadays seem to be about "You can do ANYTHING you want-- except for this, this, this, and that"

To me the fact that you're not allowed to do it is similar to Oblivion where you'd see a bunch of doors "You need a key" or characters that can only be "knocked out". It's just irritating to be walking around this allegedly realistic and reactive world and see the seams like that.

I'd rather have no children around than have them be invincible. Elder Scrolls doesn't have any children in it and nobody ever seemed to notice or care.

Apparently, games that have killing children are banned in many countries, so I doubt it will be done.

Let's hope so. Wouldn't that be interesting...being able to mod with resources from both games.

It'd be neat if you could (after all, what kind of psychopath spares kids but murders everything else) - but as everyone else has said that's not the case. Given the violent ways you kill people already (dismemberment with a pistol, woo) killing kids would seem like a negligible change in the offensive meter, but..eh, that's people.

It's strange, I have no qualms about my RPG characters killing adult NPCs in cold blood for absolutely nothing, but I would never be able to do the same with children, even if it is just a game.

Are there, BTW, killable children in GTA IV? I don't remember any in GTA III.

The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

It's a bit strange to call them 'Killable' rather than 'obeying the same laws of physics as everyone else'.

I propose all actors be huggable and kissable as well.

I think the controversy would have been a bit more heated if Fallout 3 contained kissable children.

I don't do it, but at the same time the fact that I can do it adds an extra level of realism to the game - to know that all possibilities are, well, possible. By itself this is probably trivial, but lots of decision similar to this (i.e. mature ones) can combine together to really alter the atmosphere of the game.

Anyway, I digress. Or do I?

Assuming FO: NV is incompatible with the original FO3 editor (I hopse so), it would require trivial changes to FO3 content to make it compatible with FO: NV.

Every other npc you can talk, steal, kill

Children you can talk, steal.

How is it strange to call out the one thing missing?
