Missed the first 10 minutes of the exam after misreading the start time, gits wouldn't give me extra time, had to rush it, probably miserably failed now. I am not impressed :(

Just because you're a bit thinner than your even fatter mum it doesn't mean you're in excellent physical shape, if you could fit through the door and view the normal people you'd notice that cheeseburger boy. Squid suck.

What was the exam for that 10 minutes would make that much of a difference?

Business exam, you get an hour and a half to write five essays relating to a case study on whatever business they decide, each one discussing a different aspect of the business. You need every spare second to give all decent answers in it, even my teacher admitted she'd struggle to finish it off properly in the time given so that crappy ten minutes has cost me hardcore style. Wouldn't have been even slightly bothered if it was any of the other exams I've done, finished all of those with an hour or so to spare.

Ah well, at least they're over now anyway. Now the long wait until the 20th of August for the results. Spending all summer so drunk I'm too preoccupied to worry about them seems to be the way to go I rate \o/

I should have moved to Somewhere Cold for college, my writing hand might still like me if I had done. Pretty sure it's figuring out how to murder me in my sleep as I type.

Writing manually > typing tbh. As long as you get a couple of minutes to stop when your arm seizes up, of course.

went to class and found out that Supertankers actually have their own gravity field that actually is noticable (you can't park two of those next to each other because they'll attract and bump into one another).

In 7th grade, I teach the students how Chuck Norris took down the Roman Empire, so it is good that you are starting early on this curriculum.

I also generally preferred to hand-write my exams when I had the option. I took all my classnotes and reading notes by hand, and I think that doing the test in the same manner improves recall on some base-psychology level. Also, I tend to focus better when there isn't a computer screen in front of me.

Anyhow, while I do miss being a student for a variety of reasons, I am also rather happy that the last test I took (the VA Bar Exam) might well be the last major written test I'll ever take.

In writing this response, I did something I now regret-- I poked around online a bit and found a posted version of the essay questions I had to answer when I took the Bar. Bad memories of the summer spent learning all this stuff, for no real purpose other than the jump through the proper hoop on test day. (It really is quite ridiculous to test attorneys without letting them consult with reference materials-- indeed, in most situations, giving advice to clients without looking anything up would be straight-up malpractice!) For fun, here's a sample question:

6. The Craig Land Trust (“Craig”) has contracts to purchase five adjacent tracts of land in

Craig County, Virginia. Craig has obtained current title examinations of each parcel. All documents in

each tract’s chain of title have been properly recorded.

Tract 1. Twenty years ago, Dave conveyed Tract 1 by a deed reciting, “I convey Tract 1 to my

son, Richard, for life and, upon his death, to Richard’s son, Earl.” Recently Earl conveyed his interest to

George by a deed, which recites, “I convey all of my right title and interest in Tract 1 to George.”

Richard is still living. George has contracted to sell Tract 1 to Craig.

Tract 2. Ten years ago, Cain transferred Tract 2 by a deed reciting, “I convey Tract 2 to Sam

and his heirs so long as Tract 2 is used solely for residential purposes.” Five years ago, Sam built and

has continually operated a garage for automobile repair on Tract 2. Cain died last year and, in his will,

he left his entire estate to his son, Jethro. Jethro has contracted to sell Tract 2 to Craig.

Tract 3. Fifteen years ago, Hazel conveyed Tract 3 by a deed reciting, “I convey Tract 3 to

James for life, then to Ken for life, and then to Larry.” Five years ago, Larry obtained a loan from

Roscoe and gave Roscoe a deed of trust conveying all of his right title and interest in Tract 3 to a trustee

as security for a promissory note payable to Roscoe. Last year James and Ken died, and Larry defaulted

on the loan. Larry contracted to sell Tract 3 to Craig. In the meantime, Roscoe advertised a sale of the

property under the terms of the deed of trust he holds, gave all required notices, and set the sale for 30

days from today.

Tract 4. Ten years ago, Ursula conveyed Tract 4 to her children, John and Mary, as joint

tenants. Mary died five years ago and by her will left all of her property to a friend, Henry. John has

contracted to sell Tract 4 to Craig, advising Craig that he and Mary owned with right of survivorship.

Can the Craig Land Trust acquire title to each of these tracts free of any

other interests by purchasing the tracts at the present time from the persons who

contracted to sell them? Discuss fully, being certain to identify the nature of the

interest held by each of the persons who contracted to sell each tract.

This was one of the questions that I felt pretty good about after taking the test, but today I would be hard-pressed to get half of the available points. And on exam day, we had to get through one of these in about 45 minutes.

lol, I criticised this bloke a bunch yesterday for being stubbourn and arrogant (repeatedly calling some poor kid stupid because he didn't understand a topic), and I walk into my first day at work today and he's my boss.

It really is quite ridiculous to test attorneys without letting them consult with reference materials-- indeed, in most situations, giving advice to clients without looking anything up would be straight-up malpractice!

the same applies to most professional endeavors, e.g., engineers. you really, really, want to make sure the guy designing the bridge had reference material handy before he signed off on it!

however, i also agree that there is a huge difference between being able to look up a "solution," and formulate one on your own. in the case of an engineering exam, you would expect that all the necessary parameters, i.e., the stuff you would otherwise look up in reference material, were provided in the question, and it is the onus of the exam taker to have the requisite knowledge to solve the problem from there. in other words, the test should be more about his problem solving skills rather than his memorization skills.

i would suspect that different professions have different weighting between these two major skill sets making the distinction at exam time much more ambiguous.

Word to the wise on business exams: put in as much military history as possible. Management types LOVE thinking they are spartacus every time they do the tax figures.

I had a couple people come by to give an estimate for cleaning out my 2 bedroom condo before the renter comes in, but they all want $300-400! I think that's crazy, I'll just rent a carpet shampooer and clean everything myself.

I think for our tiny place, without furniture, a more reasonable price would be $150-200.
