Jorian Drake Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 (edited) http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=637984 Well, not sure if this is new for you, but for me it is It seems like MoW is already ready for a long time, but not released because it will include a new security system ...i hope to hear from devs that the 'security' won't be like that of Starforce... Tale Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 (edited) It sounds like it'll be an Atari developed system. So definitely not Securom or Starforce. Edited June 4, 2008 by Tale "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Jorian Drake Posted June 4, 2008 Author Posted June 4, 2008 (edited) It sounds like it'll be an Atari developed system. So definitely not Securom or Starforce. just think about it: the game itself is already finished since 2007 winter, but not yet out because they wait for the 'security sumtin' to be finished aswell EDIT: i know it wont be Starforce, but i fear similar 'effects' Edited June 4, 2008 by Jorian Drake
Xard Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 great, just great What, you-must-be-online sillyness wasn't ENOUGH back in NWN1 already Way to fail here Atari How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them. - OverPowered Godzilla (OPG)
newc0253 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 i don't really mind anti-piracy measures in and of themselves: publishers are entitled to be antsy about protecting a product that's 100% digital &, while i understand that others have had serious problems with securerom, i've never encountered any problems with this myself. what i find laughable are the endless rounds of delay caused to poor Ossian and Obsidian by Atari's insistence upon its new anti-piracy measures: we were originally told MoW would be within weeks of thanksgiving, then christmas, then early 2008, then until the next patch, then the next patch AFTER that, then as part of the Gold edition release, then AFTER that, etc, etc. it's now June, for frak's sake, Gold has gone gold and is on the streets, and there's still no word when MoW will be available. like i say, Atari are entitled to protect their product from being pirated, but it surely reaches a point where they loose all goodwill with customers for doing so. maybe this just shows that goodwill counts for very little: CRPGs are a market in which everyone who would have bought MOW last thanksgiving will most likely buy it in July or September or whenever it comes out. but it's still a frakking shyte state of affairs. dumber than a bag of hammers
Starwars Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 (edited) This is very old news, heh. Word was given in the recent Westgate previews that they're aiming for June, however due to some delays of the 1.13 patch (which I think will contain the copy protection stuff), it wouldn't surprise me if that turns to July instead. I'll likely buy it though. It really looks like an excellent adventure, and I'm sure it will be worth supporting Ossian for. SteveThaiBinh Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 The latest news from Atari is that a July release is likely. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." (Nina Kalenkov)
Sand Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 Who cares. NWN2 is old news. Tale Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 (edited) Who cares. NWN2 is old news. You're old news. Semi Off-topic: I wonder if we'll have to wait 2 years before we see a 4th ed game. Edited June 7, 2008 by Tale "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Pop Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 We might not see any non-MMO 4th ed games. Atari owns the license, and Phil Harrison (of Sony fame) has said that they will be focusing on multiplayer endeavors and shifting focus away from "Big budget single player games". Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!

Tale Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 They'll have to do something other than an MMO. They've got until 2017 to exploit the license and I don't see them just producing a bunch of MMOs to fill up that timespan. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
newc0253 Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 i'm sure that Wizards would love to parley D&D into a profitable MMO but, man, how boring would that be? dumber than a bag of hammers
Jorian Drake Posted June 7, 2008 Author Posted June 7, 2008 i'm sure that Wizards would love to parley D&D into a profitable MMO but, man, how boring would that be? You mean something else than DDO? I would like a Forgotten Realms setting
Whipporwill Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 CRPGs and GMUDs are completely different types of game. It's distressing to see companies abandoning CRPGs to go chasing after the monthly fees that GMUDs bring. I take comfort in the fact that most of them will throwing money down a rathole because they don't know how to make a GMUD, but it doesn't change the fact that there will continue to be a surfeit of bad GMUDs and a shortage of good CRPGs.
Tale Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 We stopped calling them MUDs when they stopped being text-based. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Whipporwill Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 We stopped calling them MUDs when they stopped being text-based. They didn't stop being MUDs, though.
Gorgon Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 (edited) It would be nice if they created a copy protection scheme that didn't involve always having the CD in the drive. I just bought Sins of a Solar Empire, and it only requires online registration, no CD. It makes sense too since the virtual drive software can fool it anyway with the help of stealth programs. Online banking requires an encrypted USB key, at least where i'm at, why don't they try something like that instead. Edited June 7, 2008 by Gorgon Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
