What are you playing now?

It would be great even without that arm. Because of the intestines you can wear as bracelet.

No, it's great because of other things. Speaking of intestines: Currently playing: Penumbra: Black Plague, Demo. I'm surprised about its extremely realistic lighting effects and interesting physics use. Plus, I can run it with all options up, yay! It's pretty scary, I'm still tense :aiee:

Sigint: "Uh, Snake...what are you doing?"

Snake: "I'm in a box."

Sigint: "A cardboard box? Why are you...?"

Snake: "I dunno. I was just looking at it, and suddenly I got this irresistable

urge to get inside. No, not an urge - more than that. It was my destiny

to be here; in the box."

Sigint: "Destiny...?"

Snake: "Yeah. And then when I put it on, I suddenly got this feeling of inner

peace. I can't put it into words. I feel...safe. Like this is where I

was meant to be. Like I'd found the key to true happiness. ... Does that

make any sense?"

Sigint: "Not even a little."

Snake: "You should come inside the box... Then you'll know what I mean."

Sigint: "Man, I don't wanna know what you mean! Between you and Para-Medic, is

everyone but me that is hooked up with the Major strange!?"

Snake: "..."

Sigint: "Yeah, well, anyway, I suppose even that dumbass box might make a

decent disguise if you wear it inside a building."

I've been thinking about what I want to play when I wrap up my MotB run in another week or so. I think I want to branch out a little from my RPG/TBS corner. I honestly can't recall the last PC game I played that wasn't an RPG or some kind of Civ variant.

Given the current state of the marketplace, though, "branching out" generally means shooters, and I really haven't been following much in action games since I decided that DOOM was boring and gave me a headache. (My rig is certainly capable of handling all the newer stuff out there, though.)

I'm currently thinking I'll start with Portal, since everything I've seen seems to agree that it's brilliant, and I've always liked puzzle-ish games. Plus, it's short, which is good for someone like me with limited gaming time. Not sure if I'll just download it by itself ($20) or grab the whole Orange Box ($50), though. I can't stand multiplayer, so I'm certain that TF2 would bore me to tears. Thus, the question is whether it's worth $30 to see if I enjoy Half-Life 2.

Thought I might be able to finish Snake Eater last night before I went to bed. But the end sections of the game are longer than I remember. Here's basically how it goes.

Sneaking mission

Boss fight

On-rails section against soldiers

On-rails section against soldiers on bikes

On-rails section against a boss

Another boss fight, but not on-rails.

On-rails section against soldiers on bikes again

Escort mission

I saved and went to bed at the escort mission. I'm kind of hoping that MGS4 doesn't do this. I typically prefer that once I get to the home stretch, I can go all the way in that sitting. Having to turn off a system because the end battles take 2 hours is kind of disruptive to the excitement. But I think I'm almost done! Only one more boss battle.

I swear, this game has a lot of boss (or boss-like) battles. There's 11 off the top of my head. Considering it's an under 10 hour game, that's quite a few. But many of them have very unique gameplay.

I spent $50 on the Orange box and really only played Portal (plus a couple hours of TF2). Honestly I'd say Portal was worth the money. Plus, I prefer having boxes of stuff. I'm not saying it wouldn't be smarter to go with the $20 for Portal, but I don't think you'll regret it if you spend the extra cash.

Tried Tropico for the first time yesterday, needless to say this game has me in its claws now. I love relaxing builders like this, what a great game it is.

Also installed STALKER for a bit to check out how it looked on my rig now since I upgraded it a bit a few months back. I still think this is one of the best looking games I've ever seen, because the visuals just don't feel like fluff. It feel well thought out, and it really serves the games atmosphere.
