Spider Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 The Bear certainly helps, but the two divine casters should be able to hold their own as tanks for the most part. But some fights will probably be more challenging without Okku, yes. But not impossible.
Gromnir Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 okku is the tank. you want a tank, then okku is your guy. however, please keep in mind that an appropriately buffed and outfitted cleric is gonna be equal or better than any tank obsidian could come up with. dove already gots big wisdom, so throw a couple extra points into charisma... and take divine shield. there is a nymph cloak +6 available early in game so you can probably get dove's chr modifier up to +8 or +9 w/o much effort. she already gots extra turning, so spam away with divine shield and divine might before every battle. +8 or +9 to damage and ac is nothing to sneeze at. spell buffing is key for the cleric combatant. extend and persistent metaspell feats become almost necessary for a tank. cast persist divine favor and prayer. cast extend divine power and battletide. cast extend recitation 'fore big battles. most of the stat boosting spells is a waste 'cause you can find belts and cloaks and other items that boost better than bull's strength or eagle's splendor anyways... and stat boosts don't stack. heck, divine power alone gives dove same bab as a fighter of same level. also, while dove carries a puny little mace when you meet her, she can use any martial weapon. for some odd reason it seems that the best weapons in game are either 2 hand weapons or they is exotic weapons. you is probably gonna want to have dove use a shield, so best route is probably to craft something for dove. Gromnir avoids crafting 'cause it seems like overkill, but if dove is gonna be your tank, then you should think 'bout customizing her a super weapon. use your friends. gann can cast tortoise shell, and or barksin 'pon dove... and make sure somebody can stoneskin her. red wizard can cast haste (potentially persistent haste,) and a few other buffing spells. umd is another way to turn dove into a tank. her umd will never be good 'nuff for using scrolls, but to use wands and any items in game requires that dove probably have 'bout ten ranks in umd. for dove you only get 3 skill points per level, so if you already gained a bunch o' levels with dove and spent points elsewhere, this may not be an option. regardless, keep in mind that spells like displacement, mirror image and ghostly visage, spells that normally can only be cast by a caster on self, is wonderful wand fodder. dove can be a tank, but as the spirit meter makes resting options more limited, you is gonna have to be careful with dove's spamming of spell casting... you may have to pretty much put her in puppet mode so that she does what you want her to do. so am assuming that you insist on both gann and safiya in party? gann has some neato abilities, but he is largely superfluous if you got dove and safiya in party. dove can heal and buff, and between dove and red wizard you gots some serious damage potential from offensive spells. *shrug* dove is a serious melee weapon, if you is willing to micromanage. Atreides Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 It's doable, but tough against some types of enemies that'll have high spell resistance that you can't damage easily. My 15wiz/14spirit shaman casts lots of spells (way beyond what a specialist will end up casting) but hasn't reached lvl9 spells. In a way Kaulitz is an avatar of destruction but can't get the highest level spells. My first play against the final boss is a case in point. Accompanied by Safiya, we lack the physical power to put damage on the boss, which keeps with the annoying tradition of Healing himself and spawning more enemies, which I also struggled to deal with physically. Eventually the **** hit the fan when our summons and buffs ran out. I love Bigby's spells grapple the boss, which let us keep away. Spreading beauty with my katana.
Gromnir Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 "My 15wiz/14spirit shaman..." no wonder you had problem with ancient vamp sr. caster level o' 15 or 14 (even with the spell penetration feats) ain't gonna often be able to touch critters with sr o' 30+... and there is too many vamps in those vault battles to assay resistance 'em all. Atreides Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 It saddens me that I won't be able to cast Storm of Vengeance or Mordaiken's Disjunction. Maybe I'd have been better off going 67% wiz and 33% spirit shaman, but either way I'd end up being screwed. Spreading beauty with my katana.
Tale Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Why not drop the Spirit Shaman altogether? DnD epic isn't friendly to hybrids. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Atreides Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 That's true. I just wanted to try something different though. My char's still very powerful, but not in the regular way. The buffs I can cast are quite crazy. Spreading beauty with my katana.

Atreides Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Yup, got the final boss Another great thing about my character is he's superb at wand crafting, literally getting the best of both worlds. It's the Flame Arrow, Isaac's Missile Swarm and Flame wands that did him in eventually. Also I adjusted the spells I memorized going into the fight. Spreading beauty with my katana.
Rhomal Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 Well I escaped the underwater city, and laid a beat down on the hag spawns mother. Interesting back story and fairly tragic to be honest. While I felt bad for the had spawn and his plight playing my PC IC he was indifferent more or less. As he felt it wasn't his business nor concern. So after that we made our way up to the slumbering coven and entered a very enlightening dream state. Bishop got what he deserved as he is now part of the wall of the faithless. And I am playing the part of a 'betrayer'? I didn't sabotage my keep gate... My issues with this arse clown aside, moving on... Now after a few waking dream encounters all the puzzle parts are stating to fall into place to create the big picture. Seems everything i spointing back to the wall of the faithless and it, attempted, destruction. According to the dream entities I spoke with this seems to be leading to the dead god of death myrkul whom I must communicate with as he apparently has the key to cure me of this cures as he is the one who created it. Possibly as a punishment for the attacks on the wall by the 'betrayer'. The trail now leads to sofiya's red wizard academy to find some clues hopefully left by her mother as she was involved in my initial abduction to some degree. After taking care of some red wizards who performed the coup against her mother I stumbled upon ammon jerro! He was in a state where his soul was ripped from him, I made some deals with some bound demons and restored it. He was a changed man and not the angry, bitter man whos focus was crystal clear. He had some self doubts now about himself and his purpose. I pulled the 'you owe me' card and he agreed to join my group, if just for a time. Seems after this red wizards school quest he intents to part ways, for good. He did state however about the others in my original party and their fate. Seems the only ones to survive was him, khelgar and possibly ellene (he states he did not see her killed in the chaos like the others, however nor did he see her in the aftermath either) everyone else he saw was killed by the falling ceiling or sacrificed themselves to allow others a chance. On a side note, hes now part of my party, however he is not controllable in any way. I can not command him nor have access to his inventory. So now we are searching for a way to enter a sealed warded door in sofiya mothers room which we beleive has some clues to further our mission. Our journey continues. So in my game at least, I knew she didn't live as she was killed in the first part of the battle. If she did stay by you PCs side what does he say happened to her? And yes the grobnar death was too funny and even ammon seemed to find it a bit fitting for the guy. You always knew that gnome was a few fries short of a happy meal to start with. So it certainly seemed fitting. Some people actually had Neeshka at their wedding at the end. A lot of characters can survive if you simply don't ask about them, it seems. Khelgar and Jerro are the only ones assured to live. I think Qara is doomed to die, though. I think an example of asking in order is Grobnar/Construct. If you ask about Grobnar first, he sings a song as he escapes. If you ask about Construct first, Grobnar tries to shield Construct and dies. I think that's because if you ask about Grobnar first, the game isn't certain you even had Construct. Rhomal Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 Wedding? Who were you supposed to marry? and how could you, you were taken right after the cave in...? I assume its a accurate assumption ammon won't be around after this red wizards part of the story is finished? I find it sad, but understandable to a degree, that hes been demoted to a minor NPC cameo role. He would have been one NPC I'd love to have him tag along for the long term as he did in the OC. Xard Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Trust me, he tags along longer than that, although not forever "Wedding? roshan Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 If you ask about Grobnar first, he sings a song as he escapes. I think youre wrong here. Grobnar gets lost thinking of a song to keep the roof up as it collapses down on him.
Tale Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Quite possibly. I'm only presenting what I remember being told. Not what I experienced. I could check, though! "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Jinx Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Sand probably survived as well if he'd sided with you. Ammon heard him finnish casting a transmutation spell and "If he chose his form carefully, there is a good chance he still lives".
Azure79 Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Here is what I got: Khelgar - Alive and well. Got lost chasing your abductors. Neeshka - Nimbly skipped out of the way of the destruction and made it to safety. Elanee - Pushed the PC away from the falling debris but got pinned herself. May be either unconscious or dead. Grobnar - Last seen covering the construct from the destruction. Most likely dead. Qara - In my game, she betrayed my PC so dead. I liked Qara too. Sand - Last seen casting a transmutation spell - Good chance that he survived, maybe sheltered other companions if he transformed into an massive golem or elemental. Casavir - Last seen sacrificing himself so others could make it to safety. Good chance that he did not survive. Zhjaeve - Ammon doesn't seem to know what happened. I think she survived, possibly made it back to Limbo. Construct - Helped bash down walls in the escape - Probably deactivated. I didn't feel satisfied with the vague endings for the OC companions. I liked the group a lot and I wish you had been given the chance to teleport to the scene of the final battle to help free your companions and help them find their way out. A nice little reunion followed by another farewell as you're whisked back to Rasheman. Somebody make a mod~
Jinx Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Zhjaeve - Ammon doesn't seem to know what happened. I think she survived, possibly made it back to Limbo. Was anyone else miffed that she may have known about a faster and safer way out and didn't share it with the rest of the group, thereby failing to aid them in something that wiped out over half the party? Did my 6 points of influence mean nothing to her? I'm starting to think that Githzerai are quite an untrustworthy bunch, Da'kon wasn't exactly giving with his secret portal locations either .
