and it always feels like you have low ammo.

That's a pro in my book! =]

Yup. The sense of desperation vital for a "-shock" game.

Pros: DX10 Graphics and EAX 5.0 sound. It sucks you in big time. Loads of atmosphere and the weapons to match. One of the best set of levels I have ever played, from a visual standpoint. You feel you want to keep playing because you want to understand this world. Good voices and music.

Cons: As an FPS it seems a bit gimmicky with the tricks and spells and what not, and it always feels like you have low ammo. I could not help but just resort to throwing objects and corpses at enemies by the game's end. Combat just feels so freaken random, I prefer FEAR in terms of combat. Last boss should have been more creative. In game physics only animates at 25 fps, so objects look like they move laggy even if your fps is 60.

Conclusion: If a game was released that contained FEAR's combat in Bioshock's levels, the game would be perfect 10 in my book. As it stands now I still recommend Bioshock because it's got good levels and story (with an insane plot twist involving 3 words), and that makes you forgive the somewhat disappointing combat.

Thanks. Sounds just as what I am expecting. A souped up FPS that's got every reviewer in the world to jump on the big hype train. I'm lowering my expectations.

It was the whole point of System Shock 2, and should be the point of Bioshock.

There's really no reason you should feel always low on ammo unless you're overly relying on the guns to see you through. With the right tonics you can balance out the Plasmids and the guns and always come out with maximum EVE, health and ammo at the end of every encounter. But I imagine at harder difficulties it's more of a problem.

Gamespot claims Bioshock on the PC is quite buggy. That's the first I've heard of that. Quite unexpected too.

There's been complaining all over the official forums. It's seems to me, like it's just the case of a very vocal minority making things seem worse than it is, though.

I never feel low on ammo. It's kind of typical in that I'm almost always full. Maybe it's the way I play, though.

I am lucky in that a guy on my team at work is a fanatical gamer. He has taken a week off for when this game is released.

Ok, played through the demo. Im still not the least impressed by anything else than the Art Design, which is a complete and utter waste on a runrunrun FPS like this.

..and creepy little girls with teddybears hasnt been scary since "Shining". That "The Ring" ripoff in FEAR was annoying enough.

They're not meant to be scary! They're meant to be tragic, if anything. An objective in the game is to

save them. No, really save them. Turn them back into normal little girls.

They don't attack you, ever. Their bodyguards don't attack you either. Only ever if you attack first.

Posts at TTLG indicate that the game is just a straight up shooter. A good, relatively open shooter but still just a standard shooter. I think a Swedish journalist also said as much some time ago in a preview. Considering Ken Levine repeatedly said it was possible to play the game stealthily, I'm not too happy. You can't even walk in the game, and the splicers, supposedly don't react to any sounds you make.

It seems to me as if they react, not always but sometimes. I just got a Gene Tonic that quiets footsteps, actually.

I would definitely disagree with "straight up" shooter. The hacking systems, choices, and plasmid and weapon advancement (I've only read about advancement from the tip screens, not experienced it so far) would make me more prone to calling it action-adventure.

If the demo is anything like the full game, then nope. Its just a straightforward shoot&run FPS.

When you dispatch their bodyguard, you're given two options. To harvest or rescue. If you harvest, it kills them and you get a lot of ADAM (which serves as a currency/XP system you can use to get new abilities or directly increase aspects of the character (max health/EVE/plasmid slots)). If you rescue them, you get less ADAM, it turns them into a regular little girl, and you get free unique abilities every so often.

Nah, levels are like hubs where you tackle different objectives at your choosing. You can also back track the levels to find things that you missed.

Hey Bok, how many times did you upgrade your health/eve?

Well, I'm around 5 hours in and at this stage I think I'm in love with this game. It's like System Shock 2 with more of a pulse...that would turn off some I guess but I actually think I like this better than SS2 so far. The game is very linear though, I think you mainly have to backtrack only to unlock secrets with your new powers a la Zelda, but that doesn't bother me cause the story, setting and combat are so damn good. I think to call this a straight-up shooter is ignoring all the thought that's put into every room and all the options you have in combat. In short, this game rocks and unless it runs out of ideas I'll still be ranting about it after I'm finished. Awesome.

Btw I think we should keep this thread free of spoilers...I know there are some whoppers in the game
