Try to have dexterity at least up to 13. It might make things more interesting in the mortuary.

Thanks, again I presumed that stats make a difference since it's a game based in the D&D universe.

Stats make a difference, PST is just made in a way that makes Wis/Int/Cha much more important than the rest of the stats. A thing to remember is that you will get several followers and together with the general easyness of combat playing as a str/con/dex fighter is in many ways a waste.

Oh, thanks for letting me know. Maybe I should read the game manual?

There are some tables in the back of the manual that helps you understand the 2nd edition rule system if you haven't found it yet, otherwise it is of only marginal importance with the exception of telling you how different the game is and that dying is not necessarily the end etc.

Torment really is a game that changes your view of how and what a D&D game is.

Torment really is a game that changes your view of how and what a D&D game is.

Or at least can be.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

I'd say Torment isn't really a D&D game.

I hat eto say it, but did anyone else think Mask of the Betrayer was stupendously cool, and had many elements of PST type coolness? I certainly thought the companions were awesome, particularly the way you actually ahd to think about who wthey were and what they were going through to get the right answers.

Moderation changes a man, turns him to the bottle.

Before you know it he'll be snorting crack off a hookers silicon jubblies while arguing about existentialism in WoT.

Sigh, another great man falls into ruin.

Well, drunk-style typos aside, I actually have to agree with him. The companions as well as some other aspects of MotB reminded me of PS:T. Probably that it had some console-game aspects, probably just that it was one of the best CRPGs I've played so far: Original story, unique companions, beautiful environments, strange items...

I wasn't drunk. I was very tired, but that's not an excuse. I'm simply asking, what was it that made PST special? Travel in the planes? Meeting dead gods? Philosophy? Serious decisions? Your companions? All those things came out for me.

Meteor storm is more awesome. I remember doing it against Trias from a ring I found.

Plus death fog, fire and ice, desert hell, deathbolt, etc

More than anything, awsome writing and plot.

Maybe you feel that way, but was PST REALLY better than MotB?

Well, I wasn't arguing that the cgi is good, just listing the spells I used in the Trias fight. I mean, Fire and Ice a nice effect? Since when?

Yeah :)

However, MotB is definetly on my Top 10 games list.

And best CRPG since BG2

I havn't yet finished MotB so I can't say, but the thing about the plot that really stood out was that it was a personal story. No saving the world (except for personal reasons), it was all about the PCs own quest for attonement, and in a genre saturated by UR TEH CHOSN 1!, that was very nice.

Torment had a lot going for it but I always thought highly of P:T because it seemed like it was made with the idea of doing all the usual things you expected to find in an rpg differently. And the planescape setting in itself was an incredibly interesting thing that added a huge amount to the game.

I liked how Torment constantly presented unusual and very mature characters and situations that would actually give you something to think about that went beyond simply trying to figure out the best option for completing a quest and getting your reward. The fact that so many things were unusual, and that there were so many instances where you could find things out about your past or aquire benefits from subtle dialogue paths meant that you really had a reason to want to hear what the npc's were saying to you. Few things in that game ever felt generic to me, the quality of the writing even for the side quests and minor conversations was much higher than it needed to be, making it all the more special.

MotB like NWN2 has practically no exploration. 3 or 4 doors to use in a city, thats about it it, coffe break time every time theres an area transition doesen't exactly make me want to use too many of those doors either.

Torment had just enough. I also loved all the torment npcs, I just finished MotB and I can't even remember the names of the principal party members.

Both had good stories.
