Kor Qel Droma Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 I'm bored and hungover, and just finished watching Cellular. Jessica Biel sure gets all the good roles now, doesn't she? Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.

Oerwinde Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 The Matrix was virtually unknown when it first came out. People thought it was another Johnny Mnemonic(which it kinda was) but through word of mouth, its success grew and it gained a cult following in just a few weeks. Blade Runner is a cult film, so is the first Star Wars trilogy and even The Dark Crystal. There are many others, none of which I have recently seen so I will shut up now for being off topic. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Being huge box office blockbusters negates cult status. Star Wars is not a cult film, neither is the matrix. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.
Mortis Nai Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 (edited) Weekends for me are usually filled with Movies, grab a bunch and have them on in the background. if they are good they will attract my attention and I will actually watch them engrossed. If not, I will watch them while doing other things. Winners this Week. Jacob's Ladder I was told to watch this months ago and I have had it kicking around. When the Silent Hill Movie was released I played through all 4 games and then watched the movie so I sort of burnt myself out on this sort of style. That and I went on a Month long Exploitation kick... if you ever get the Chance to Watch Cannibal holocaust... Don't. Not because it is a bad movie but because your psyche will thank you for avoiding it. Any who, Finally watched Jacobs ladder yesterday and it blew me away, I couldn't believe how much influence this movie has had. Normally you can see where a movie has influenced others such as Eraserhead, but certain things from Jacob's ladder have literally been directly lifted and re marketed. Wonderful, wonderful movie... I only wish I had seen it earlier. Night/Dawn/Day/Land of the Living Dead (Had a craving to watch them all in a row... original Dawn, not the remake, seen that one time to many) There classics, what can you do? All these years and I had never sat down and watched them all back to back... an atrocity I know, but at least I have corrected that now. Thank you for Smoking You need a light hearted movie every now and then, and it helps that I recently quit smoking. Not a bad movie, it is what you expect it to be and nothing more... pure hollywood entertainment. Now I'm off to start another Movie Binge today. Suicide Club Watched it before but missed the ending as I was late in watching it and had to take it back, so I am rectifying this mistake. Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Alien, Flesh Eating, Hellbound, Zombified Living Dead Part 2: In Shocking 2-D (For fun.) After all the George A. Romero movies, this seemed like a light hearted, fun spoof to watch. Dead Alive (Braindead) To make up for the Spoof Zombie flick. LadyCrimson Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Being huge box office blockbusters negates cult status. Star Wars is not a cult film, neither is the matrix. I don't think cult is always 100% definied solely by success at the box office...but I still must agree that neither of those is 'cult" in terms of the film itself. A cult group of fans dedicated to some particular thing within/of those film worlds, perhaps. But not the films. And the only movies I've seen recently are very bad ones on Sci-Fi's weekend movie marathon run. “Things are as they are. A group of people you could swear are homeless preaching the teachings of the Matrix. I would say that's kinda of "Cult" like. But I agree, Starwars and The Marix are far from true Cult Films in terms of the movies themselves. Plan 9 from Outer Space Eraserhead Rockyhorror (Before the 80's & 90's Boom) In my personal opinion, to truly be "Cult" very few people must know of it, or many people know of it but dislike it. Kor Qel Droma Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Hey, nice to see you around in WOT, Jules! I rented What Dreams May Come tonight from Blockbuster. LadyCrimson Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 An Inconvenient Truth - Al Gore's documentary (and kind of a mini-bio in parts) about global warming. I liked it a lot, well thought out and presented, with some nice bits of humor here and there. I dunno if he'd have made a great President or not, but he's a good speaker, that's for sure. “Things are as they are. You say Star Wars and The Matrix don't have a cult following? Because that's all it takes for a film to gain the "cult" status, to actually have a cult following! Also, I saw Casino Royale yesterday(Bond films have a cult following!) and although I expected to be impressed, my expectations were underrestimating this film. It's just fantastic! Gfted1 Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Took the family to Happy Feet. My daughter loved it and a couple parts made me chuckle. At 2 hours its a bit too long. Also watched The DaVinci Code. Never read the book but I like the movie. Didnt really get why the church would want to hide the bloodline of Christ. It would seem like having a living heir of a god would trump adjusting some religous history. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What I understood from the book and the movie(they're the same) is that the bloodline would mean another Church entirely, another branch of christianity or something, like Catholiticism, Protestantism, etc and there would be, I guess, Jesusism or something. But the Church has built itself on the premise that Jesus is God or its son and Jesus having a family and descendants would debunk all of this, essentially destroying The Church. Darth Drabek Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 (edited) I watched a few movies this weekend. The wife and I went to see Casino Royale on Friday. We had just watched "A View to a Kill" the week before - a Roger Moore film with Christopher Walken as the villain. Not a very good Bond film, but the lowlight was when Bond got down to business with... Grace Jones. With that perspective, it was unbelievable how much more intense movies in general have become in the last 20 years or so. The chase that ended at the embassy? Now that's action. It makes the older movies seem unbelievably dated. Daniel Craig was fantastic as Bond. The ladies love the guy, and I've got to say - that torture scene would have been torture on the viewers too if Pierce Brosnan was on display. Edit: Thanks Surr. Must have still been thinking about Roger Moore. I think "A View to a Kill" was done by Duran Duran, am I right? Speaking of Bond title songs performed by men - Chris Cornell's song for Casino Royale sounded pretty bad on his Myspace page, but it did a lot better on the big screen with the visual cues in the credits montage. Surreptishus Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Daniel Craig. I share your your thoughts on A View To A Kill but the song is one of my favourites. :">
Kelverin Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 (edited) While I agree A View To A Kill (#17) is not a very good Bond flick it does have it's moments. To me Moore finally showed some believable anger when confronting Zoren about Tibit and the fight on the Golden Gate bridge was pretty intense. The title song by Duran Duran is excellent, the theme song for CR is ........ unremarkable. Edited November 27, 2006 by Kelverin J1 Visa Southern California Cleaning
