Gfted1 Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I wonder why evolution chose to curse American indians with whatever defective gene that makes them go crazy when they drink the "fire water". Also, apparently most NA's have zero fear of heights and were much sought after during the cities building phase of our nation. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
Llyranor Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 And that defective gene that made them susceptible to smallpox. What's up with that? (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Gfted1 Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 (edited) And that defective gene that made them susceptible to smallpox. What's up with that? Hehe, yeah, those weaklings. But seriously, American Indians get ridiculously drunk at the drop of a hat. Makes sense really as they are partially asian and they also share that trait. Or at least the Japanese do. Its almost like an allergic reaction. Edited May 3, 2006 by Gfted1 "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"

Llyranor Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Cured? Haha, no. 'Eradicated'. There are two "known" labs in the US/Russia that still have samples, for purposes of reproducing a vaccine should it ever come back in the form of bioterrorism. Smallpox is one of the likely organisms to be used in such an attack. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
deganawida Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 (edited) Which country or countries will take the people in? A hypothetical scenario. Was wondering who else in the world would take the American and Canadian citizens in asylum. Given the diverse culture of those 2 countries, I'm sure it would have quite an impact on the host country. Say the UK will have some scruffle with 2nd Amendment activists. China will do a major crack down on 1st Amendment activists. Any others you can think of? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who'd take the UN in? The UN building is on Seneca land, according to signed US Treaties, but was "donated" by Rockefeller to the UN. I'll only speak for myself, but I would rather see the 5000+ treaties that the United States and Canada made with the various American Indian nations honored than see y'all kicked out, and all Indian artifacts returned to their respective nations (Give us back our Constitution!). That would be more than enough room for us. Heck, might even see the stone move back to New York. Edited May 3, 2006 by deganawida

deganawida Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Yeah, like who'd go to their casinos then? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Would there be casinos? Those casinos are funded, for the most part, by a few select European (primarily French) companies that take advantage of the unique legal situations of the reservations. Most money doesn't actually go to the nation, but to the company that fronts all the building and setup costs. It's just another scam perpetrated by Europeans upon the indigeneous people of the Americas.
deganawida Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 i can't believe i am reading some of the things posted here. Use the term Native peoples, First Nations, indigenous peoples, but as a rule,"Indians" are from India. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually, my family and I (we're Oneida, of the Haudenoshonee) prefer "Oneida" first and foremost, and then "American Indian".
Gfted1 Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Technically, all American Indian tribes have their own nations as the resevations are considered independant countries. A person isnt even protected by the Constitution while on a reservation. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"

Actually, my family and I (we're Oneida, of the Haudenoshonee) prefer "Oneida" first and foremost, and then "American Indian". Ok. Sorry about that. The term "American Indian" didn't actually come to mind while i was writing. i find it confusing though when used in the same context of, say, African-American or Italian-American. Then Indian-American seems to indicate a person who immigrated from India. i learned in university that First Nations was among the prefered terms, but that was a while ago. It's just another scam perpetrated by Europeans upon the indigeneous people of the Americas. Yeah, that's all we spend our time doing you know .. think of ways to rob you.. huh? so a few European companies screwed you, how does that make Europeans in general responsible?? Um, deganawaida didn't say individual European citizens are thus scheming; however; i do find that line of thinking telling. Do you not have democracies in Europe? Are commerce rules not legislated and enforced by elected governments? i don't see how anyone could argue citizens are not responsible for their government's actions.

Nick_i_am Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Just to clear things up. Europeans became immune to smallpox because of the 'cowpox' virus which is very similar, but completely non-deadly (nothing more than a small rash). It was passed from cows udders to whoever was milking them and since the structure of the virus' was so similar, people who had beaten cowpox became immune to smallpox. Modern humans are not immune to smallpox any longer. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)

Indians were more appropriate. Well, mostly we use "American Indian" as we were used to "Indian" before the PC revolution. I prefer it on a philosophical level as it's a way to thumb my nose at all the PC people at there. Finally, it suggests that people who have bled for, tended, were born, lived, and died here weren't American. That just bothers me on general principle. *&$# 'em. we get so tired seeing folks fight over the little crap 'cause they thinks they can win those battles... and then lets all the important stuff be forgotten. infant mortality and malnutrition is still higher on the rez where Gromnir grew up than it is in many 3rd world countries and these jerks is wasting spleen on Native American v. Indian? Yeah, and doesn't Pine Ridge have a 77% unemployment rate? Don't know if that was yours, but I know it's one of the poorest places in the world. BTW, how'd you like the Bellacourts' response to that Oklahoma Congressman who drafted an apology with some additional compensation? They refused it, because he didn't bring up two (I believe; it's been a while since I read it) minor points. Also, we will note that the term genocide is appropriate when describing what occurred to many Indian peoples and that even if every recognizable Indian nation/tribe were given its land back there would still be a great deal of land in North America leftover. Protesting to have the names of sports teams changed rather than working to actually raise the quality of living of Indians (without violating cultural and religious beliefs) is what made me quit having anything to do with AIM. I also know about sanctimonious relatives; I get into it quite a bit with some of mine over my beliefs (and have been called an apple a few times LOL).
metadigital Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 A technique has been trialled in Australia where certain Aboriginal cultures (from the latin: ab originale = from the beginning) are given back some land (preferrably their ancestral patch, if possible: not easy for those from Umby Gumby, as there is a wacking great city on top of it, called the Gold Coast). Then the people are allowed to make it into a commercial enterprise: whether that is farming Tea Tree essential oils, or renting back the structures that have since been built on the land. Likewise, it is fanciful to pretend that hundreds of millions of people are going to emigrate; more likely there will be a large punitive pecuniary compromise (such as the one postulated between the descendents of Africans and the state, which was a couple of trillion dollars last time I checked). Fenghuang Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 My ancestors just pretended to be fully Caucasian. They didn't get split up, and they were persecuted less that way. I don't blame them, but college scholarships would be nice right about now considering my family is basically pretty dang poor. RIP
Silvershadow Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Don't know about everyone else, but personally, if Caucasians got kicked out of Canada, I'd probably end up marrying my bf (who's native), and staying put.
