@Hawke64What a bizarre thing to do. I mean, Resi: Revelations does have a multiplayer mode, and it's quite fun in fact, but I can't imagine it has a thriving community 11 years after initial release, so why bother with anti-cheat software? The only explanation that I can come up with is that Capcom was using it to test the software out because they are considering using it in an upcoming game.

Edit: I just looked it up, it currently has 155 players on Steam with a 24 hour peak of 163. That's impressive for an 11 year old game, but hardly worth installing anti-cheat software for. I'm going to guess that those roughly 160 people still playing this game all know each other at this point, so if there's cheating going on the cheaters can get called out by name and shunned by the community.

It is odd. The only information I have related to the modding from Capcom is that they consider some mods negatively affecting their reputation (because purposefully lowering the performance and removing modding do not /s). In the context, I assume it might be related to a modded copy of Street Fighter running during a competition. I hope that the blow to the public image from the DRM will be larger than from the nude mods, not to mention the time and resources it will take to implement.

"Mods are popular with users because they allow them to add or change various features to an existing game," Capcom said, admitting the "majority of mods can have a positive impact". But some mods are seen as "detrimental" by the company in terms of "reputational damage" and workload.

"There are a number of mods that are offensive to public order and morals," Capcom continued. "When these are disseminated, the image of the product is tarnished and branding is affected." The presentation doesn't contain any examples of what Capcom means by this or what it considers to be "offensive to public order and morals".

Quote

"That's a very interesting, uh, Chun Li costume."

Such are the immortal words of a Street Fighter co-commentator upon seeing that Chun Li, in fact, is not wearing a costume. As a match between Chun Li and Kimberley began at a recent Corner2Corner Street Fighter 6 tournament, a weekly online throwdown featuring some of Europe's finest players, it was immediately obvious that Chun Li was naked.

Sure, you don't want porn mods popping up in a live streaming tournament that 8 year old little Billy might be watching and OH NO little Billy saw boobies now he's scarred for life or whatever. Won't someone think of the children!?

/clutches at pearls

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there were no live streaming Resi: Revelations tournaments in 2023 and there won't be any going forward. Furthermore, the 160ish people still actively playing this 11 year old game are almost certainly the most dedicated and hardcore of hardcore fans of this game and they almost certainly all know each other by now. They can hash this out by themselves thusly:

ChrisPunchBoulder762 - "Hey xXxA$$MASTURxXx, you mind not running that nude Rachel mod for this session? I find it distracting to see her running around with her milkers out."

xXxA$$MASTURxXx - "Yeah, my bad. Hang on, I'll disable the mod and log back in, give me 30 seconds."

Problem solved.

Side-note: Rachel already has her milkers out in the vanilla game so when Capcom is accusing people of inappropriate character models they should first look in the mirror. Seriously, this is her in the game sans mods:

Fair point, but what money is left to be made off Resi: Revelations? Is Capcom planning to release a skimpy (skimpier) outfit DLC for this game 11 years after release? Sure, the 160 people still playing are the most hardcore fans and chances are most, if not all, of them will buy the DLC. So let's say the DLC is $10... No, let's get REALLY greedy, make the DLC $25, these are the most hardcore fans of the game, they'll buy it anyway. Capcom can make $4000 in a best case scenario. Whooptie doo!

They've been doing remakes recently, with quite a bit of success, of the mainline Resi games, Revelations is not mainline, it's a spinoff. It's not impossible that they would remake it, but I wouldn't hold my breath since they inexplicably skipped over Code Veronica when Code Veronica is far and away the game most screaming for a remake. And even if they made a remake of Revelations, that would have nothing to do with the current version, it would be a completely separate game, just like all the other remakes.

IMHO, It was definitely testing of waters, how people would react to it. No other reason to pull such stunt with 11 years old game.

Wouldn't the right thing to do be to wear a chainmail bikini yourself? You know, for solidarity. I expect photographic evidence of your support for gender equality. :shifty:

And now for something completely different...

It has come to my attention that the new Prince of Persia is a metroidvania, and supposedly a rather good one. When it was announced I paid no attention and immediately moved on, which is on me. In my defense, Ubisoft has conditioned me to expect a specific type of game, on account of the fact that they've been making essentially the same exact game, albeit with a different coat of paint, over and over and over and over and over again for well over a decade. Now I'm suddenly interested. Some of my favorite games ever are metroidvanias. Games like Super Metroid, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, and La-Mulana 2, just to name a few. If the new PoP is as good as rumored, I'll definitely play it at some point.

Maybe in the future. At the moment it could give you additional seasons of NuTrek Discovery.

Hmmm, aside of horrid music choices I thought that much was clear since the game was revealed.
but yes it is a metroidvania - drawing inspirations from all the greatest hits - like Hollow Knight like charm system. Platforming and combat are very responsive with a good potential to grow. It seems fresh while paying homage to both original Pop and its later sands of time reboot. There is demo if you want to see for yourself.

I'm sure it was, it's just the moment they began announcing it, my eyes glazed over, I pictured another AssCreed except with time dagger in my head, and I went to take a piss, figuring that was as good a time as ever, so I never actually saw most of the reveal.

In case you missed it there will be XBOX's Developer Direct in couple of hours:

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2024/01/09/xbox-developer-direct-2024/

We should finally get some info on the Indiana Jones game, and a deeper look into Avowed (finally! Please, don't disappoint...).

On a less confirmed note: Elden Ring DLC news might be coming, or even shadowdropping. A while ago there was Elden Ring controller leak that suggested possible February 2024 Shadow of Erdtree release. Recent Elden Ring steam update made such possibility a little bit more likely:

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/elden-ring-dlc-update-on-steams-backend-hints-that-shadow-of-the-erdtrees-release-could-be-very-very-close

There is also some rumbling about Silksong and February - though from what I gathered, it is just wishful thinking at this point.

Wrong thread? Either way, I liked Tyranny a lot, significantly more than either Pillars game. I'd love to see a sequel some day.
