Do you know whats in common with all these Amazon and Twitter folks? They need UBI, UHC, UFH and UFE. We cant ignore it any longer!

First they need unions.

As I see it there are a few possibilities.

1) Elon Musk is an idiot who is only rich due to luck and other rich people being easy dupes.

2) Elon didn't want to buy Twitter at all and is trying to default on the loan or something.

3) Elon Musk spent $44 Billion to stop people from posting his bald picture or the one of him ad Ghislaine Maxwell.

“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

the final tragedy o' the nixon ouster is rare taught in schools, but am suspecting mitch mcconnell and others were much aware o' how the story ended for Congressional republicans who did the right thing.

to this day, on this board, you will see people suggesting january 6 were unfortunate but nowhere close to an insurrection... and whatabout the 2020 summer protests?

trump were not particular popular when he won the Presidency in 2016, but somehow a cultlike following developed during four years o' ignominy and incompetence? what?

am thinking republican leadership is gonna be hesitant to move on from trump, regardless o' circumstances.  history o' "heroic" nixonian republicans and the january 6 backlash 'gainst folks such as lindsey has taught the gop there ain't no practical benefits in doing the right thing. is in part 'cause o' the history o' nixon we are stuck with trump for the near future.

@Pidesco (edit) there were no smoking gun moment for republican voters in regards to nixon. the narrative taught today is embracing more than a little romanticized fiction. what happened were, after a substantial elapse o' time following the release o' the watergate tapes, a collection o' republican Congressmen let the President know they would no longer support him through impeachment and a subsequent trial, at which point nixon resigned. the thing is, republican voters did not forgive those Congressmen who were disloyal to their clear guilty President; most o' those republican politicians were primary'd or voted out o' office in the subsequent election 'cause they had such diminished support from republican voters.

Oh and now that I think of it, there is a fourth possibility: Elon Musk is desperately wants to be funny but has a sense of humor that would embarrass someone from 2005.

HA! Good Fun!

ps once again am linking the relevant fox news article: Arizona gov election: Katie Hobbs defeats GOP challenger Kari Lake, race may now go to recount under state law

read the comments and recognize how even though lake lost, a significant % of americans are true believers in the lies trump, lake and others is continuing to sell 'em. real don't matter. facts don't matter. truth don't matter. given the degree o' polarization we see as normal nowadays, any narrative which benefits or originates from the libs is part o' a scheme by them to keep real americans down... or whatever.

lake' losing is a win for reality, but not a big win 'cause look how close a thing it were and those near 50% who supported lake yesterday is not waking up tomorrow to the realization they has been willful buying snake oil. is a real win when folks such as lake is once again a momentary punchline embraced serious only by the lunatic fringe.

Fifth possibility: Twitter is hemorrhaging $4M a day and he did the right thing.

In 2021 Twitter made 5 billion dollars of ad revenue in couple weeks Elon has succeed to drop it less than billion dollars.

So cutting jobs could have been necessary to make Twitter profitable (as it made 200 million dollars loss 2021), but way Elon did it doesn't seem to be best way. But of course he may be able to convince advertiser come back, although some of biggest advertisers have declared that they will not advertise in Twitter or use Twitter ever after Twitter Blue impersonators were able to crash their stock price with fake announcements. So Elon may have difficult time ahead. But he already made SpaceX buy ads from Twitter with hefty sum, so he at least I'd able to fund Twitter with his other companies, although their other owners may not like such actions.

I don't really care what Musk does with his new MySpace purchase. I feel bad for all most of the people that lost their jobs but I highly doubt the company will ever be worth anywhere near what he paid for it.

Only time will tell if he's making the right moves.

With any luck, in a year Twitter gets bought for a few million and Elon destroys Tesla. Not only will this be extremely funny, but taking cars that explode and have a deadly autopilot would vastly improve public safety.

When Trump has been on the ballot in 2016 and 2020, he has majorly outperformed expectations. In both of those elections, it was right on the margin of error for how well he over-performed. He lost the 2020 election by a combined mere 65,009 votes through just four key states (Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Nebraska) that would have won him the election...and that was after the absolute clown fiesta nightmare 4 years that we experienced with him and with him utterly bungling a deadly global pandemic - if not for just the latter, he absolutely would still be president right now. In 2018 and 2022 when he hasn't been on the ballot, it has been a completely different story. For so many people in this country, Trump is their guy, the only guy that they truly believe in, that nobody else could ever be for them. It is called a cult of personality for a reason, and so while these midterm performances with him as the "leader" of the Republican Party have been weak, I very strongly hope that he does not win the Republican ticket for 2024 because it is my feeling that there is a significant voter base that only he can tap into, and if the Republican party rejects him, that base will neither forgive nor vote for the Republican party, and good riddance to them.

Probably the absolute best scenario, of course, would be that Trump loses the Republican nomination and then still runs independent as an act of revenge. I'm sure the majority of us would love to see that and the resulting implosion.

I'd say he's actually running because he is trying to escape indictments/prosecution/whatever can stick on teflon.

You right in the sense there is definitely a Trump " anti-vote" and this will manifest itself in 2024 if Trumps wins the GOP nomination.

So the GOP should hope Trump doesnt win the nomination but its in  the best interests  of the Dems if he does

Conversely, as @ShadySands already said, the anti-Trump vote is a big motivator. To look at those four key states you mentioned: Arizona just flipped Democrat because of Trump backed nominees, both Georgia and Nebraska trend Republican generally, and Wisconsin is a purple state (that got gerrymandered into being deep red on a practical level). All that in mind, it's very possible that a not-Trump Republican would be able to win in those states by not getting people to the polls to vote against them or even get some staunch anti-Trump folks to vote for them.

Really I think the best, and funniest, scenario would be Trump winning or getting close to winning the primary while giving his opponents black eyes, then dropping dead of a heart attack or covid. The third party run would probably peel more votes in a general election, but his primary opponents launching into a war for his throne would very much be an implosion for the party and you'd get a good amount of his cultists refusing to support the pretender. If Trump lost the primary or dropped, he could always direct his cult to getting behind the candidate in exchange for being a kingmaker.

The most likely scenario is that Trump wins the primary and we find ourselves back in 2020. Probably with a new rona variant to boot.

Nothing can stick on Trump, his wealth and sycophants will protect him from any legal consequences he may find thrown at him. Trump is more at risk from his fast food heavy diet than he is from prosecution.
