"The final image, taken some 4 miles away from the asteroid and just one second before impact, is noticeably incomplete, with much of the screen blacked out. NASA says DART's impact occurred during the time when that image was being transmitted to Earth, resulting in a partial picture."

now for some perspective, to get even the most vague sense o' galactic scale proportions, the speed of light is 186,000 miles per second.  other than the sun, the nearest star in our galaxy to earth is more than four light years distant.

is literal impossible for Gromnir to meaningful imagine such distances. we can solve for 10 to the nth power, but we got no foundation for grappling with the distances involved.

HA! Good Fun!

plant machete
This installation enables a live plant to control a machete. plant machete has a control system that reads and utilizes the electrical noises found in a live philodendron. The system uses an open source micro-controller connected to the plant to read varying resistance signals across the plant’s leaves. Using custom software, these signals are mapped in real-time to the movements of the joints of the industrial robot holding a machete. In this way, the movements of the machete are determined based on input from the plant. Essentially the plant is the brain of the robot controlling the machete determining how it swings, jabs, slices and interacts in space.

The entire interview series is pretty nice, it's on youtube if you search for James Cameron's Story of Science Fiction

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken
