What I read was that Putin has offered talks but only if Ukraine surrenders first. I would guess that's a non-starter for the Ukrainians.

i found the source, we'll see. The person is apparently UA press secretary?

I wish that would be an entertainment for me as well... I am having work colleagues in Ukraine and one of them in Kharkov... I feel like sitting on needles, every time new info gets here... And the closest attack was approx 180 kms away from our borders...

Yep, On Reddit I did get a kick of r/combatfootage wanting to be pro-Ukraine, when for stuff like Syria/Iraq/Libya it's just war porn to get off on.

The Ukrainians never took it back pretty much for sure*. As for what actually happened... who knows. I was surprised they even tried taking it permanently, but it seems to have worked and it seems that that is where the Russians in north Kiev are coming from. Other sources like the Brits have Russian land forces ~50km from Kiev still (which may be wrong too, who knows).

*There's a rather weird video I saw from there yesterday morning of a random Ukrainian in a car asking some very confused Russian Paratroopers where the Russians had run away to, and there were no signs of the VDV troops being at all worried about imminent fighting.

The Ukrainians have been asking for a summit for at least a day, I wouldn't take a press secretary saying there is going to be one at face value. Especially so when it's Pomarenko doing the translating/ interpretation, his connection with reality is pretty shaky. Believe it when both sides are saying it, not just one.

Hostomol is a strategic airport for both armies, most of the news around it should be considered as propaganda. The latest news are, that Russian paratroopers got it now IIRC... I really do not know in what to believe in some instances :(

Did any of you see Putin's statement addressed to the Ukrainian military, telling them to stop fighting his troops and to defect to his side and fight alongside his troops against the Ukrainian government? I honestly believe Putin has completely lost touch with reality and is now believing his own propaganda as being real. You add in his performance and physical appearance in that speech earlier in the week (which showed clear signs of psychosis), and all the stories about him in recent years about how he spends all of his time in isolation, is fearful of being close to other people because they will poison him or give him a disease, only talks to a very small group of advisors, etc., and I honestly think he's lost his marbles.

Incredible watching foreign news media interviewing people all over Moscow today. So many people talking about how ashamed they are of their country and how shocked they are by the images they are seeing from Ukraine, because their government has been telling them there is no war, no invasion, and the Ukrainian people are just as much against Zelenskiy as Putin. I see potential for a grassroots movement rising up against Putin, especially with 60% of the army deployed to Ukraine.

Sure.  If only they go with the KPRF.  Thing is though that KPRF supports the LDPR and the denazifying of the Ukraine so any internal protest in Russia will not be 100% binary to Western likings.

His comments, lies and propaganda has steadily  become more irrational and bizarre its hard to not agree he is suffering from a some sort of psychosis. For example the one big fabrication is " we are invading Ukraine to stop the Neo-Nazis " as if Ukraine is like Germany in ww2 when in fact the   small numbers of Neo-Nazis in Ukraine I doubt is anymore than the Neo-Nazis in Russia. Sure they exist but they a tiny part of the population?

I know many of the Americans would probably not like to hear it, but the best what Europe could do now, is to strike deal with Iran, to get their gas instead of Russia's. If EU and NATO, can trade with no hesitation with Saudis, they can trade with Iran as well... There is absolutely no difference... From what I know, Iranian's at least are not in the last 10 years waging wars against they neighbour like Saudis in Yemen... it would at least show little bit of willingness from EU to actually help Ukraine...

Its unlikely the West will ever align with Iran like that, and that includes the EU,  until we see a change of the current hardliner leadership in Iran. The hardliners in Iran are vociferously and constantly anti-Western and have actively been  involved in pushing their own Shia fundamentalism and destabilizing the ME. Just one example, Iran is involved in Yemen because they are funding and supporting the Houthis that are fighting the Saudis and their proxies within Yemen. And Iran openly supported, they sent Quds forces,  and funded Assad in Syria so they very much involved in the internal conflicts of other countries

Welcome to the reality of SM and how some people comment on parts of the Internet. But its been like this for about 6-8 years so you just  ignore it and try not to get emotionally effected and you say what you want to say  or negative rate a comment ?

But I wouldnt allow myself to get disgusted because then you letting a strangers views influence your current emotional state. Just intellectualize it ...its not personal unless you want to express emotion but concerning political and ideological debates on the Internet I would caution against doing that ;)

There have been numerous reports of Russians using Ukrainian uniforms so at the very least it makes good 'psyops' sense as Zor would put it.
For all we know it can be true.
Maybe elements of Ukrainian army might have really defected and none was keen to publicly admit it.
Maybe in confusion friendly fire has been taken to extreme and the dead labeled as Russians.

So what do you think is his goal next once the Ukrainian military is defeated ? Would he implement  a puppet government or maybe an open  Russian military  occupation?

Apparently Russia asked Kazakhstan for military intervention at Ukraine, and Kazakhstan denied they request. I hope that this is true.

Kadyrov's Chechens are not Dudayev's or Basayev's Chechens. They can probably use madskillz they developed by torturing gays and raping teenage girls somewhere along the war line, but they still have to arrive there.

Did anyone than Assad express support to what that shriveled voodoo doll made from boil ridden rabid pig's scrotum is doing?  My LOL of the yesterday was Taliban's note of concern and call for diplomacy.

It could be, but doesn't really pass the smell test. Why would Russia even ask? They haven't even activated CSTO with Belarus. Checked and it's confirmed false, they were never asked for troops.

It was also initially associated with a definitely false rumour that Syrian militia were going to be sent to Ukraine to help Russia. Probably both came from the same source which hoped to piggyback the Syrian rumour alongside the Khazak one; I'd bet pretty much anything that it's Turkish source since (1) the militia was meant to be from Raqqa, which is controlled by the US aligned Kurds and (2) Turkey hated the 'rumours' (not really rumours, very little doubt there) about them using Syrian mercenaries in Libya and Arsakh and (3) it amuses me to think of the typical Turkish nationalist reading 'Tengri news'.

I wouldn't necessarily say that I would expect large scale defections now, but it's pretty much inevitable that there will have been some defections. Historically, a big chunk of the Ukrainian naval staff at Sevastopol defected in 2014 for example- including, rather embarrassingly, the newly appointed head of the Ukrainian navy and the previous acting head.

More generally accusations of 5th Columns and Perfidy are extremely common in confused situations.

Somewhat relatedly, I am rather nonplussed by the number of media comments talking about the Russians being behind schedule and bogged down. At the equivalent point of Gulf War 2 the US and friends were still struggling to take Umm Qasr, a couple of km inside Iraq with a population of 100k. I can't see any way there was an expectation to have taken Kiev or any other major city by this point, by anyone. I'd have said they were top end of expectations, not bottom.

I think Iran called it NATO caused.
I'm sure there will be the usual Cuba/Venezuela and a few minor others taking Russian friendly stance.

I don't know, at his early point he may not either.
If the primary objective is no NATO involvement and demilitarization then there is no need to occupy anything.
All that is necessary is to force the change of constitution, wreck any military equipment, impose arms inspectors and fly-overs.
But I don't see how he can pull a 'denazification' without a months of man-hunt by loyal troops.

The Taliban calling for diplomacy

Russia has support from its autocratic allies like Belarus and Chechnya which is what you expect

And then Venezuela, Bolivia and Cuba have " recognized " the separatist states so they would recognize a Ruskie controlled Ukraine. So to answer your  question many failed states and failed socialist experiments will support Russia. But its to be expected but they dont matter from a sanction or things like a SWIFT perspective
