Spell system is god awful.
Namutree replied to Abbey's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You're not talking about the spell system; you're talking about the wizard. Different classes have different spell systems, if the wizard doesn't do it for you, try a Cipher instead, or a Druid. The wizard is really good, but kinda a pain since you have to manage your spells carefully and not use more of them than you need while still making use of them when you need to. Not everyone likes that kind of resource management; if that includes you go ahead and pick a different spell casting class. They made them function differently for a reason. I think the spell spamming Druids and Ciphers with their steady level progress are kinda boring. I much prefer the resource management oriented wizards who start off weak but end up powerhouses with uber spells like confusion are more interesting. -
Why the hype?

The problem with the IWD story isn't the premise, but that you it doesn't do anything to get you emotionally invested in it. In BG1 Sarevok kills your foster dad (not that many people cared about that), but then hires bounty hunters with evil hearts (oh no!) to kill you. All I'm doin' is minding your own business and *BAM!* evil jerkwad tryin' to kill me. Who are these guys? Wht's their friggin' beef!? I'm mad. Now I *want* to take down Sarevok and the iron throne cuz' they're always cramping my style. IWD is just a flurry of exposition about stuff that doesn't really concern me on a personal level. -
Patch notes for 1.03
Namutree replied to Sleazebag's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
lol Also: 1) Grimoire limited to 1 spell per level 2) Endurance/Health ratio for wizards reduced to 1:2 3) Fireball now a single target spell 4) All spells from the "Minoletta" spell line toned down to 1 missile fired 5) Wizard Godlikes (there's your oxymoron!) now lack both a head AND neck slot in the inventory 6) Grimoire swap cooldown increased by 500 seconds. Confusion is so OP, that the wizard would still be usable at high levels. -
Patch notes for 1.03

By "powerful" I meant that it's an effective class. Why did I use a monk to Tank? Simple, the monk has High Health/Endurance, High Deflection, and has a class talent to lower the enemies MIG by 2 with high accuracy so it will hit. Gains a talent that grants access to 2 modals; one that grants +8 deflection with no dps penalty, or +8 fortitude-will-reflex with no dps penalty (suck it defensive stance). The monk is great as a tank and a buff to deflection or DR would make the class OP. -

Freakin' why? The monk is an already very powerful class. Actually Barb is way more powerfull than Monk, so if monk is very powerfull i wonder what Barb is atm.... I tryed a MOnk lvl 12 it does like 5-10 per hit I used mine as a tank. I didn't use him for damage. -

Freakin' why? The monk is an already very powerful class. Compared to who? Compared to any of them. Not saying they're better than the other classes (besides the Ranger), but they are perfectly powerful; you just need to know how to use them. -

Or the infinity engine games - where wizards are actually, you know, powerful. Instead of, you know, deliberately designed to be weakest class in the game. They shouldn't even be called Wizards anymore. They should be called "interns" or "Adventurer understudies" At high levels the wizard is really freakin' powerful. I've already discussed how super powerfull confusion is. The wizard class is better than you guys are saying it is. Ironically, it's more IE like than I expected. At low levels the wizard sucks, and at high levels it's really powerful. -

You should see how obscenely OP confusion is. It casts fast, can be fired from far away, almost always works (even had it working for the final battle), has a huge area of effect, and gets the enemies to pwn each other. I got Aloth to handle some of the warden bounties by HIMSELF (on hard) cuz' the spell is soooo OP. -

The story that's central premise is a super cliche story about an evil brother with similar powers as the protagonist? Gosh, what an exciting tale to experience for the 1,415,089th time! Maybe next time our hero will need to save a damsel in distress! Oh wait... More likely during the day, but that's up to the player. Way to try and make the mundane tale of leaving Candlekeep with your foster dad seem dramatic. So much more mundane than person in a town. Imoen has literally nothing to say once she joins you besides the same few quotes over and over and over, and you think Eder is boring? Eder is at least twice as interesting as any BG1 companion. Aloth is worse? Why? Aloth is awesome. Aloth: You're itching for the kindling touch of your sister, ye coxfither! A 100% challenge free, but also 100% tedious mandatory chore. Great example! Useless item slot waster vs cute pet you see in-game (Though I prefer the cat). What an obvious win for PoE. Alright, you win that round. -

Go ahead and make a rogue, monk, or barbarian main pc to play those classes. The game has replay value. Just amp up the difficulty and bring along the three companions you didn't roll with last time. Build the other two. Did you finish the endless paths and all the quests in the game. If not go ahead and do those this time. Also check out the IE mod if you haven't already to mix up your play experience. Also I recommend waiting a month or so for a few patches. You are 100% correct about the damn loading times. That is easily PoE's biggest flaw for me. This might be due to my laptop or whatever though. Is PoE better than vanilla BG1? Yeah, it is. Let's not forget that the npc's in BG1 had almost no personality, there was little weapon variety, and the actual game system was a broken super exploitable mess. Only with mods and the "Tales of the Sword Coast" expansion did BG1 really become awesome. Let's wait for PoE to get an expansion and more patches before deciding which game was better for it's time. -
Crap. Now I just feel silly.

As president I'd ban Ryan Reynolds from being in movies. My constitution has been buffed to 18. I can implement whatever I want.

I wouldn't be so sure. Of all the folks in the field right now, I think he probably has the best shot. Of course it's quite early, and there's a lot that remains to be seen. You'll see. You'll all see!

Ted Cruz will not be the republican candidate in 2016. That's a good thing.
