  1. We are, you don't understand my point. I reiterate that the point she made is not the first time I have heard that point before from other people, and I don't think it has to do with selective history as much as it is a very different interpretation of European history particularly in viewing things that some (particularly Nazi's) might see as "racial" as being "ethnic" instead. This isn't to argue the view is correct, just that I think it has to do less with ignoring parts of history than having a completely different view on certain foundational concepts. Note this isn't unique to this situation; I can't tell you the number of times that vastly different groups in other regions of the world are lumped together with no concern for the actual nuances of their history, culture and political divisions for the groups involved.
  2. Hmmm, wonder how long this lasts after the 1st Muslim student brings a case up regarding some teacher talking about Christmas or Mardi Gras or something in school...? I'd imagine pretty much everyone's view of history is selective. We can't remember everything, so we remember the bits that resonate with us. Note, I do not think that Whoopi's statements are due to selective history as I've heard other African-Americans express a similar opinion - that a lot of the bigotry (and resultant actions) in Europe (whether an extreme like Nazis vs Jews and Roma, or just various governments treatment of Irish, Polish, Italian, Basque or other emigres) isn't fundamentally the same as what befell Africans.
  3. So Washington...Commanders. So they're using the ol' WC, eh? ... ... I guess I can't talk, the Falcons are af.
  4. Think we're at .549/therm or .599/therm fixed rate for 36 mos.
  5. Well people who make a lot more helpings of food than me in the imperial system, obviously.
  6. The local stations seemed to be going crazy over the Brady retirement rumors over the weekend. It was like a major sports superstar had never retired before.
  7. We got taught both, but Imperial was what was used. I'd have no real issue switching over to metric - conversions are a lot easier. Had to figure out cups to quarts over the weekend while I was cooking (who puts a recipe in ****ing quarts?) Edit: metric would have been clearer since it's base 10 rather than dealing with 4 to change quarts to cups. So that's a vote for metric.
  8. Surely, if nothing else, the internet was invented so you could get all sorts of free-to-use measurement converters at your fingertips.
  9. Kimchi coleslaw? Can't say I ever had it, but my brother's a big kimchi fan. I'll have to ask if he has next time we talk (assuming I remember this)
  10. TNG: "Parallels" This episode should have been called "Too Many Enterprises", amirite? Worf is a fun character to hang this story on because his personality is so ill equipped to deal with people moving his cheese in normal circumstances theat when he's thrown into these events he's particularly adrift from anything he knows and ill-equipped to handle it. That said, isn't this the third or fourth time this season we've gotten "strange stuff happens and only one person notices"? (LaForge in "Interface", Data in "Phantasms", arguably Luxwanna in "Dark Page"). I guess practice makes perfect because I probably enjoyed this one more than the others. And good on the production team dropping in small differences (like Data's eyes) amid the big ones that made the episode fun to watch just to see what they changed. No Discovery eps this week either.
  11. *has flashbacks to USENET and the "Who would win, Goku from DBZ or Silver-Age Superman" fights* (besides, the obvious winner between Star Wars and Star Trek ships is obviously some third universe where they can create an electrical panel that doesn't explode when there is a power surge and can develop a ship without needing a vent that allows a straight shot to a ship's reactor).
  12. I thought that was The Forgotten Realms...
  13. I haven't seen it so can't say, but I've heard nothing but good things about it. Right now the funniest current comedy I'm watching is the US version of Ghosts, which I find hilarious.
  14. Since "Where No Man Has Gone Before" was the second pilot, they tried to address NBC executive's complaints about The Cage with the new pilot. One of the complaints was that Vina as the Orion Slave Woman was 'too raunchy'. Thus Dr. Dehner and Yeoman Smith in the second pilot wear pants and loose fitting uniform tops and the mini-skirt outfits weren't used. Side note, that Discovery image without context just looks hilarious. Burnham's expression is a great evocation of "what the **** is happening?" ObTopic - they should do a Star Trek: Original Series - Space Battleship Yamato crossover.
  15. "Where No Man Has Gone Before" was the 2nd pilot after "The Cage" with Kirk's old pal Gary Mitchell and Dr Elizabeth Dehner having their latent psychic power boosted by an energy surge at the galactic barrier. It ended up airing 3rd, right after Charlie X as the second episode (but Charlie X was the 8th filmed). Charlie was the sole survivor of ship crash as a kid, and the aliens did alter him so he could survive on their planet. They didn't realize he was going to get a sudden growth in power, and end up taking him back iirc.
  16. Sorry, I just split off the last page without concern. It was coincidental who was on top (oo-er).
  17. Baseball, BBQ, and Dead Ponies—A History of Fat Men’s Clubs in Texas
  18. Split off last page from old thread (which can be found here):
  19. I am not aware that we've received any feedback from Obsidian about format or how to group things for suggestions (outside of they go in the feedback/suggestions forum). Therefore this is entirely my speculation, but I'd think you'd probably want to group suggestions logically (thread for armor, thread for insects, thread for weapons, thread for skills) rather than a master thread with everything or a unique thread for each idea (either of which could prove overwhelming for readers). There isn't a way to identify if a developer has read your thread unless they respond to it (in that case it gets the OBS icon next to the thread).
  20. Seems like the cartoon was going to end up being a weird Power Rangers type version of Sailor Moon, a Live Action/Cartoon hybrid though as opposed to Power Ranger's US cast cutting to existing footage from Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger. At least that makes sense of why they'd need original animation - they'd need to match the actors they cast for the live action.
  21. Just imagine how it was prior to Upton Sinclair's The Jungle...!!!
  22. In what world does it make sense to not just edit and dub the original over doing a new cartoon? I mean its one thing to insert 7-Zark-7 sequences (and the kids mindlessly playing music) to pad out edited episodes of Gatchaman (or to have them gathered around a grave talking about how the person in question was recovering in the hospital to try and change to context of scenes so as to not scar the kiddies), but to completely re-do Sailor Moon from scratch like its a sub-She-Ra concept is a bit wild, IMO.
  23. Yeah, hope you're feeling better soon as well.
