I will say, having watched the first 3 episodes of Picard, I don't like the title sequence. I liked Discovery and Strange New Worlds okay (I haven't seen SNW the show, but did watch the title sequence).

True confession time: I've never watched the Ghost in the Shell anime, because I thought the manga was terrible. After reading Ghost in the Shell, I was basically left with the general impression that I wished Shirow had worked on Part V of Appleseed instead. YMMV. Also the anime was recommended highly by the same people who highly recommended The Wings of Honnêamise, so that tended to be a high dis-recommendation in my book.

Production companies have traditionally wanted to get shows to at least 100 episodes for syndication purposes (this is less necessary in this day and age, though). Most shows hit this mark in their 5th year. After the 5th year, not-coincidentally, most featured regular cast members have to renew their contract, making shows much more expensive to produce after season 5 and the reason why season 5 is the last season for many multi-season shows unless the show is doing astoundingly great ratings (NCIS, Simpsons - although Simpsons also has great merchandising). This is probably partially the rationale for cancelling the MacGyver reboot that was Magnum's lead-in after it had it's season 5 (even though they only had 94 episodes, which is still good enough for syndication, since its now in syndication) although I've also heard rumors of some production conflicts regarding the last season there as well (been awhile since I read it, so I don't recall the details).

Magnum season finale was terrible. The final scene was clumsily handled.

I think they made money off of Tomb Raider. I think the real problem is that Square Enix sees their core business is the Square and Enix IPs and anything else is a dalliance. I think they had just as much of an idea of what they wanted to do with Eidos/Crystal Dynamics when they bought them as they currently do with NFTs.

I'm not sure that they're gone entirely - Trump's Post Master General certainly seemed to be operating under orders to (once again) attempt to destroy the Post Office. And the whole Charter School movement has seemed to be an attempt to meld companies and education in a different way than private schools. But you are right, a lot of the religious right hate public schools because they're not teaching about God to the kids, so they must be teaching Satanism or, worse, Atheism.

Not familiar with it - its not the cover for the Kickstartered Florida Man comic from Mike Baron that is going to be distributed by American Mythology, so I'm guessing its either a parody or a different book entirely.

There's been, for years, a libertarian part of the Republican party that seem to want to demonize any federal or state government agency (Post office, schools), presumably in the hope that they can completely privatize these functions so that they are done by magical loving corporations who will lovingly provide loving services to all people regardless of financial bottom lines and costs out of the kindness of their heart and everything will be flowers and love.

Discounting shore leave situations or visiting starbases or federation planets (like Archer-T'Pol-Tucker's visit to a Vulcan monastary in Enterprise), I can't think of one where it was intentional to have all three command crew on an away team, even if a situation arises. For TOS, I can't think of any story that didn't have either Spock or Scott left on the bridge if the other joined Kirk. I'm making an exception of the movies as Star Trek III and Star Trek IV makes the entire bridge crew an away team by circumstance, so shouldn't really count. For TNG, all three (Picard-Riker-Data) end up on an off-ship mission in at least Time's Arrow (although originally Picard isn't on the away team, but beams down and gets caught in the temporal disturbance, so this isn't intentional). For Voyager, Chakotay (1st off) and Tuvok (I think he's 2nd Off) are both on an away mission searching for Janeway according to the internet in "Time and Again". Since Kes, Torres and Kim are also on this mission according to the internet, and Janeway and Paris are lost, I have no clue who was running the ship (Neelix? The Doctor? The Maquis who wanted to kill Janeway and take over? Its been too long since I've seen Voyager to remember the details). I know this is an early episode, so one could argue the command structure wasn't finalized, so this may be considered an exception to the rule. I'm not sure Discovery ever had a clear 2nd officer after Landry got killed in the first season (so Lorca-Landry-Saru prior to her death, who knows after that?). IWe're privy to much less of the ship life in Discover compared to earlier Treks as it focuses so heavily on non-Command crew in the first two seasons. I'd consider the way the Defiant is used to be an exception, generally, since IIRC it was an off-the-books kind of thing. But like Voyager, I haven't seen DS9 since it was first run (and I missed most of it because they kept changing its air-time locally).

Unfortunately there's a big belief in some areas of the country that teaching sex ed (including condom distribution) is going to make kids have sex the first time or have more sex (as opposed to making the sex they're already having safer). We not only had to have our parents consent, it was actually done as a field trip (sex ed was explained at a local science center rather than in the class; I guess so no one who hadn't had a parent sign off could come and sneak a peak). My understanding was that homework was originally supposed to be a guide for what the student needed to study and then for the instructor* to see if the students were actually understanding what was being presented to them. I imagine the idea of grading homework came as a way to disincentivize not doing the homework and thus not giving the instructor a chance to correct or redirect lessons before tests. I was never a fan of required homework, but would often do some homework until I felt I understood the material. I still remember an instructor who not only wanted us to do homework but also required us to outline chapters the way she described and to hand-in the outlines. I can't learn from outlining the chapters, never have been able to, so I refused to do it as it would take me longer to complete for no benefit. She sat me outside of her class so I wouldn't receive instruction since I 'couldn't follow instructions' stating that I would fail her class as I was not getting her instruction. Then she got mad at me when I aced her tests every time. She got her revenge later though... *remember that in small schools for many years, multiple classes could be in one room, and older students would assist the younger if not directly involved in the teacher's lesson.
