  1. Yeah aside from the memory/graphic limitations of consoles (compared to a decent PC) a controller has a very limited number of readily accessable functions available compared to mouse/keyboard, they're more optimized for FPS type games. So things like inventory management tend to be pretty clunky on consoles. And dumbing down Pillars to operate nicely with a console is one of the last things I want to see!
  2. Ummmm ... this is a single player party based game. There's no way one player could control a party if the game mechanics were the same as a single character FPS. Why is XP for fights needed? XP for quests sure, you're accomplishing something that furthers the games story-line. How does killing 5,000,000 respawning MOBs for XP further the story-line?
  3. I guess we just replaced "aristocrats" with "business executives", neither of which seem to have a clue about how the things they manage actually function.
  4. But, but, I want it to be yet another of the increasingly similar hand-holding games I can play while simultaneously watching TV and voice chatting with my friends! You mean I might actually have to pay attention to what I'm doing ... and I can't create a uber-character to run rough shod over the entire game then export it to PvP death matches and pawn everyone? Your game sux! ((Yes, that was sarcasm))
  5. I'm just hoping it shows the main-stream publishers there is a market for different types of games. Just because Doom and WoW made a lot of money doesn't mean every new game has to be an FPS or WoW clone to make money.
  6. I rather like it. Some players prefer to concentrate on the main mission and consider side quests unnecessary, if not outright annoying fluff. Others want to “do it all” but tend to find side quests useful primarily for gaining XP and a little extra cash … and on rare occasions a worthwhile item. Here we have a game that makes side quests difficult and rewarding. What a novel concept ! ((yes, that was sarcasm))
  7. Is there a max level for skills? In theory even if you put 66 (1+2+3+4 ... +11 = 66) of your total of 72 skill points into a single skill you could get level 11 (not including free skill levels fron class/race/background). So is 10 the max level for skills or is it open-ended?
  8. OK, we know: Weapon Focus Groups: Adventurer - Pollaxe, Estoc, Flail, Wand, War Bow. Knight - Battle Axe, Sword, Morning Star, Crossbow Noble - Dagger, Rapier, Mace, Sceptre, Rod Peasant - Hatchet, Spear, Quarterstaff, Hunting Bow, Unarmed Ruffian - Sabre, Stiletto, Club, Pistol, Blunderbuss Soldier - Great Sword, Pike, War Hammer, Arbalest, Arquebus Can anyone shed any light on the actual speed/damage/whatever of individual weapon types? ((Of course this is subbject to change in the final release the 26th, but probably won't change much))
  9. Keep in mind with the level cap of 12 it's not like leveling a smaller party faster is really going to give you any super significant advanatage, probably not even enough to make up for being short-handed in the first place (since the game is made wirh a 6-man party in mind). If you're just doing it for fun, or for the challenge however, have at it!
  10. Keep in mind that while any class can use any weapon you'll only be able to get good at one or two. One of my concerns is that many times some weapon types are seriously under represented in a game. BUT - with the enchantment system they plan this probably won't be a significant issue ... assuming you can afford the enchantments.
  11. It isn't a solution at all. The OP is making a request for information, not deciding the likability of the power. Sure sounds like at least one person doesn't much like it to me.
  12. I played Origins four, five times (not in a row tho), and had to force myself to get thru Inquisition once. I kept thinking ... the next fetch/kill quest will lead to something worthwhile ... boy am I stupid.
  13. The merchants have infinite gold..? Why are they making mistakes that both Icewind Dale and Fallout: New Vegas got right? They had first limited gold for merchants but then people complained it and they changed it to infinite. I much prefer infinate gold to spending hours running from merchent to merchent and by the end of the game not being able to sell anything because the merchents are all broke or the item is worth more then the merchents gold limit.
  14. Well ... I'll give him/her credit for being passionate about their cause.
  15. It's not like it's the only spell you have available to select, if you don't like it don't use it. Easy solution.
  16. Yeah, started playing BG/BG2 Enhanced a few months ago just to see what was different, tho my memory of my origional play-thru may be a bit fuzzy (been a few years after all). Playing when I have the time/inclination since I have played it once before. BG had it's difficult moments, so far BG2 has been pretty much of a cake walk partially because I remember which parts were tough and have delayed dealing with them till later. But still fun to run across something the Enhanced Edition adds to the game!
  17. No PC/console game system can satisfy everyone simply because they lack the flexibility of a GM run game. To some people min-maxing characters IS the game. To others it's role-play (difficult in any non human run game). Yet others love finding ability/skill synergies that allow them to do things the designers didn't intend/forsee. There's no right/wrong way to play a single-player game, unlike multi-player ones.
  18. Role-play is of course very dependent on the quality and quantity of the other players, and when both are reasonable it's a blast. Problem is many times folks just plain don't know how (assuming they want to in the first place of course), more so these days since many games are solo rather then group. And there always seems to be that one troll who gets their kicks from annoying others. Unless the game system has some way to ignore or eject trolls they can totally ruin role-play.
  19. Handy to be able to flip actual pages back and forth sometimes. E-books have their uses but are hardly portable and rather difficult to skim for relevent info.
  20. You mean except for that pesky level and CON loss? Yep, if you used Raise dead ... no Con loss from Resurrect as I recall (been 15-20 years since I played mush D&D). Didn't raise dead make you permanently lose CON and Resurrection had a chance of perm death? Seems like issues to me. Any raise had a perma-death chance based on your Resurrection/Survival (which was based on your Con).
  21. Yeah the old D&D Raise Dead + Heal or just Resurrection made "death" pretty much of a non-issue.
