I don't know if I have read the same books, but Hobb is known for multi-leveled characters in all her series. I can't remember anyone who had a purely good or evil persona. Those who were initially perceived as good people could turn out to be prejudiced racists later on and you'd still have a ton of sympathy for them, evil characters had a smattering of twists to them and often good reasons, or at least ones justifiable to themselves to do their deeds. I agree that Hobb is hesitant to kill her characters, but I think that is an asset for the stories. The Martin comparison isn't quite right, since he writes on such a large scale, while Hobb is often concentrating on one or three main characters. I don't constant culling would serve the stories all that well.
  4. You will never have a day better than this one. It's all downhill from here. That was the best part of the day!
  5. Firelake - Against the ionized odds
  6. Granted, it came out last year, but chances are that none of you have yet to see it. So go watch it, ffs!

  8. I just can't wait now. That was superb! Thanks a lot.
  9. Funny that, most of my deaths seem to stem from the over-eager chain-spamming bastard of a co-op partner. Not that I don't do the occasional push. Jerkface.
  10. I don't get this "blandness" thing. Nobody has yet to see the game in motion. Who knows how colourful and vibrant it will be?
  11. I finally managed to reach the fifth level in Ikaruga. Me and my two lives. But goddamn, that game is pure love.
  12. Just like how a game about murdering people with baseball bats and handguns for speaking dirty to your lover, a game featuring an assassination of a judge because you don't agree with his views, a game about illegal whisky trafficking and killing because of protection money can have such elements, right? I'm writing about Mafia, if you didn't catch it yet. You can argue that the themes are entirely different and I'm writing way off-base, but I bet we can at least agree that they don't actually have to play a big part for the story to be awesome? Edit:This thread is so August that's it's not even funny.
  13. I'm at x18, and it is awesome! Granted, it doesn't look exactly stellar, compared to Agropom for instance, but damn it's atmospheric!
  14. Congratulations! You win a prize of...oh wait, you don't.
  15. I tried Stalker on my friend's monster rig and now hate my ichorous framerate. Well, anyhow, I started Homeworld 1(GOTY Edition) and it is glorious. I plan on playing through it and then continuing with the sequel. Sublime.
  16. How about 2 hours 30 minutes?
  17. What's with this...hell, happy belated birthday.
  18. Yeah, but not if you explained why, I presume, you have not. Air - Ce matin-l
  19. Sacrifice, like other oft-forgot classics like I-War 2:Edge of Chaos and Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising, was simply brilliant. It started with the same idea as Massive's Ground Control; move RTS gameplay away from bases and turtling into the field of action and constant real-time decisions. Yet, it retained resource control and greatly streamlined it into the general gameplay and the original features like the soul management and the ingenious idea of the player having an actual presence on the battlefield as a unit, like another classic - Battlezone(1998), really gave the game a lasting uniqueness.
  20. Sorry Xardy, I really couldn't grasp what you were trying to emphasize with those parallels, so I don't think your taking of minor offense over Bos_hybrid's assumed implications, which I can't see either, is justified. We'll see, won't we.
  21. I love how Stalker mixes post-soviet indrustial scenes of urban dilapitation and devastation with the more fantastic elements usually associated with dungeons; such as the anomalies - the game's version of traps and hazardous liquid puddles; and the caches of loot which always contain something fantastic despite them being in e.g an old fertilizer production facility of all places; and lastly the ravenous monsters that are quite like post-apocalyptic versions of the commong fantasy monster archetypes like ghosts, giants and undead! They are also incredibly rewarding to delve into, since the design team has taken their precious time in crafting each one into a unique and interesting enviroment. Unlike certain CD Projekt. Maybe the only complaint I'd like to say is the "gotcha" nature of monster placement. Triggers place, especially new, monsters into dead angles and often let them get the drop on you which justly causes panic and fingers slipping on the keyboard, missing that bandage hotkey. In a way there's a game world explanation, since these beasts are in their own, ironically, natural enviroment into which they have radically adapted thanks to frequent danger and radiation they of course should be able to surprise you. It's still a pain each time.
  22. That it is! Nightwish - Walking in the air Not really by choice
  23. you, me, and Krezzy And me, I'll turn 21 first of May. I'm still baffled that Soulie is 27 and Tigranes only 20. Not to mention you Shryke, you who I thought would be 32 by now. Argh. What the hell, Moat is younger than me! I presumed by the quality of your posts that you'd be in your thirties already. Next Pop is going to turn up and tell us he's about to celebrate his 15th birthday...
