Uh, well it comes to preferences in the end, then. I too hated the army control in Ceaser 3 and Pharaoh, but in Zeus:MoO it was already very decently executed. Anyway, I've always thought that "strategy games" included a wide scope of games, everything from god games to 4x and from rts to city builders. Gaming biz generally included anything where the player either a)uses resources to build and conquest or/and b) has command over units under the apellation "Strategy", so I've usually went with that. But the actual definition of the term and its scope is anyone's guess.

I've always thought city building sims a subset of strategy games. Particularly Impressions/Tilted Mill games, since, ever since Ceasar 3, you can control armies in them.

Mongol Empire was hardly permanent as well and consisted largely of pasture. I wouldn't call it much of a conquest, but you have to love how quickly they ran over South-East Asia. I'd like to argue over Persian Empire having a much larger cultural effect than Roman Empire ever, partly because Rome just integrated Hellenistic cultural legacy into their originally Italic one almost seamlessly, almost like in a continuum with Alexander, taking over and not creating much of their own, and mostly because Persian Empire(all three) were so long-lasting. But post-Roman cultural legacy is so massive that I'm maybe treading over dangerous semantic grounds. Not to mention, it's hardly a discussion suited for Computer and Console.

I don't understand why they fumbled combat in Assassin's Creed. Their previous game, Two Thrones, had some really challenging combat scenes. Then again, perhaps that's why.

I'll get a freaking computer for next year so I don't have to rot in these computer classrooms. There's barely any oxygen here and the water is only warm on weekdays, pffft.
