  1. As far as I know, Sensuki doesn't speak for Obsidian. I am *not* here to defend Sensuki. He needs to defend his own positions like any other member. Here's the long and short of it, soedenone, if your post count is less than 5, someone from the moderators have to approve the post. I generally approve posts off-hand except that I don't like to approve posts that are directed to a particular member. I usually still do, but I don't like to feel like I'm encouraging personal vendettas or flames. So, all I'm asking is that you direct your angst at Sensuki's position rather than his person. For the record, while I think he has done a lot of work poking into things regarding the backer beta, I don't give him a pass. The big difference is that I'm not forced to review all of his posts before they're posted. If he attacks you personally, you can report his posts and someone will take a look at them. For the meantime, it will inevitably be true that more attention is directed to posts that moderators must approve. So, if you don't like something he has posted, and you feel it breaks the Obsidian forum rules, discuss it with us, hopefully respectfully, and I promise we'll hear you out and try to do our best as people who volunteer here on the boards.
  2. For members who've are only recently posted, it's necessary that we approve the posts. I don't like approving posts that cite specific members by name. Sensuki has indeed posted a lot of suggestions. I'm not employed by Obsidian but, as a backer and a member, I also appreciate his input. I often also disagree with his input. In either case, please don't make this about specific member and make it about the game.
  3. Yeah, I get ya. I use to love World of Warcrack. :Cant's gasping icon: There are some games that have great multiplayer experiences. Hell, I remember M.U.L.E. in multiplayer. I remember the original Wolfenstein where one person controlled the gun and the other controlled movement. ...But I want a great single player game that doesn't sacrifice a damned thing to accommodate multiplayer.
  4. I hope they don't spend one cent working on multiplayer modes. It's not that I want to screw over folks who want multiplayer content. It's that I want every single dime spent on the best single player experience Obsidz can provide.
  5. Yeah, the millions who die from heavy lead and arsenic every year is the untold story. If only we spent more money, we'd live forever. Okay, okay, if I can toss out a bomb, I can take the flames. ...And I've demonstrated that I can take them without holding it against you. :Cant's wry grin icon: Anyhow, we celebrated my wife's birthday with her family today. He used to have a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue in his cupboard (in his garage, which means a huge swing of temperature between night and day/summer and fall), but all he's had for a while is Glenlivet 12 year (Which I myself replenish). I Know some folks still turn their nose up at a blended, but I'd take the blue blended over the Glenlivet single malt any day, and not just because it's more expensive. ...But, hey, scotch is scotch, so I had a splash in my coffee. Usually with water or on ice, but it's way too hot coming out of Mr. Doofus' cupboard to drink straight up.
  6. I hate not being able to save freely. I've played plenty of games that don't allow it with no real problem in terms of difficulty, but having to wait for the save point can sometimes be a pain. That's where you get in the habit of leaving your computer on while you do other stuff because you don't want to lose progress but you have other stuff to get done.
  7. So, the question I have, being a new moderator on these forums (something that yields absolutely no street cred and doesn't endear me to Obsidzians (who probably don't realize I even exist) or members (who half the time wish I didn't)): At what point do I snip material out of a thread? I want to participate in this discussion because it's somewhat interesting. I see an argument that becomes increasingly personal, and yet I see that both sides, while pummeling each other, still make interesting points. The sheer wall o' text is probably a put-off for some folks, but then they can ignore the posts they don't like to read. So, should I feel guilty that I'm not doing more to stop the eye gouging? Or should I just accept that these things are going to happen and, as long as no one reports an overt offense and I don't see one, be glad that we have broad freedom to express ourselves in this forum? Please do not use expressions like "Screw ." Please don't call each other stupid or crazy or use other invectives. For what it's worth, I have genuinely enjoyed what I've read of the arguments. Now that I've disclaimed, I would point out as I did earlier that I don't see how respeccing is substantially different than the process we use at the beginning of the beta. Take a character to level one, which preserves race, class, etc. and then bring your character up from there. Yeah, I think that would be cheesy as hell, but I don't see why it would be particularly hard from a technical standpoint. Also, Damn you Hiro, ya glorious wretch! Now I want to restart IWD. Thanks a lot, bud! I might go see if there's some sort of enhanced edition out or coming out. For the record, from my brief (75 hour) encounter with the beta, it seemed harder to create a hopeless character than in in the IE games.
  8. I've forwarded this information along and hopefully we can get you answers, Devilblazer. I'm going to lock this thread since it's probably best to deal directly with the folks who might be able to help you and not include the type of information involved on the public server.
  9. What put me here at this time and place? "West of House," it said. "Funny," I replied. "That was my first wish."
  10. I've played Planescape: Torment. Planescape: Torment is a dear friend of mine. Anachronox, sir, is no Planescape: Torment. I liked Anachronox for what is was, but better than PS:T? Pshaw! I didn't play the other game.
  11. Yeah, that's one thing they seemed pretty committed to achieving from the get go. They wanted a game that would make it hard for the player to screw himself completely with bad decisions. I'm sure someone will either be determined enough or simply have that combination of ignorance and luck to contrive a terrible character, but it looks pretty solid in helping to keep people from making hopeless characters. I don't even think that's the biggest fear from most folks regardless of the various arguments. I think the biggest reason folks like the idea of respeccing is just 'cause. Some folks really want to tinker with stuff and don't want to be forced to restart to do it. Then there's the fact that some games have made it easier to create characters who were hopeless and then the player would complain about it being too hard/unfun, so that's in the back of some folks' minds.
  12. All threads go through a transformation, Ace. There's really no way to prevent it, but sometimes things go off on tangents and come back. The reality is, there's nothing to talk about on the issue anyway. I'm not saying that dismissively. The option to use DnD lore simply didn't exist from the very beginning. They were always going to create a new intellectual properties unless they used... maybe Alpha Protocol? That would not have been the way to pitch a game to IE fans, though. :Cant's wry grin icon: I'm not telling you that creating the topic was bad, but if we were going to confine ourselves to pertinent topics, this whole thread would have been closed. ...But it does discuss PoE and a lot of folks seemed to enjoy the debate. I had a good time and a couple of the members surprised me with their erudition or eloquence. So, why not let the discussion range? It will eventually run out of steam and someone will replace it with something else. If it's a second Romance thread, it will be closed or merged. lol Keep up the good fight, though! EDIT: housekeeping.
  13. Some people enjoy tinkering with that sort of stuff, though. I get the idea of choice and consequence. Generally, the idea is to finish the game to explore an idea and, if it's good, to replay it. Nevertheless, some folks just don't want it that way. I'm not a fan of respeccing in a single player game, but I understand that some people are going to really jones for it. Now, if it took considerable resources to implement it, I would be more miffed, but we already essentially respec when we start the beta anyway. They can put it in very easily. I think I saw someone mention this above (hard to say because of all the stuff going down and only skimming a lot of posts) but respeccing is open to a lot of abuse. After all, you spec one way for early levels and then plan a respeccing route. Still, that's going to take forethought. Anyone planning on doing that will be planning to edit crap to do it. So let them do it easier if it lets them enjoy the game. ...But, yeah, I have no use for respeccing in a single player game. Half the fun is playing a while and experimenting and then restarting with a different idea if a really good one comes to you.
  14. Ouch, Raithe! I just went to a funeral on Tuesday morning. Been a pretty morbid week. I hope your mother recovers! I can understand both joking in the face of death and internalizing it.
  15. I definitely see different ways to build the classes I've seen. There're are decision points to be sure, Don. ...And that's just from my brief time playing.
  16. I agree that we can discuss it, gk. We are right now. Well... we're kind of discussing discussing it, but that's the road to discussion. I just can't get up the gumption to reiterate my views on this one. I figure L train still has some fight and I happen to know from the ad nauseam debates most of us have had that his views are close enough to mine that I'm happy to slug it out vicariously through him. ...But I'm all for discussing just about everything as long we don't get into vendettas or flame wars or whatnot.
  17. If anything, I think giving trap and lock XP on one side and the bestiary solution (which I actually thought was an intelligent and reasonable compromise) on the other was insulting to the combat XP crowd. ...And I would rather see combat XP than trap and lock XP personally. ...But I digress. I can't get worked up over respeccing. Normally, I restart a game if I don't like a build. Frankly, I'm not for it, but I don't think it matters all that much difference in the game. I suppose if it helps out some newbies who've screwed themselves into a really bad build, and there will be folks who manage it even though I think it will be hard in PoE, then it's not all bad. As far as the fighting goes, I guess I should step in and say "be nice" or something. In reality, as long as you don't completely devolve into personal insults, I actually think there's some interesting arguments on both sides if you can wade through the fightin'. So, no personal flames or vendetta warfare, please. EDIT: and, to be clear, I didn't want combat XP either. I just hate it somewhat less than trap and lock xp.
  18. Hell, we can't even agree on the *definition* of romance. How can we categorize it?
  19. You know Woldan, you are a glorious bastard, but I'm convinced you are slightly crazy. A true gun nut. I thought it was hard to get guns and ammunition in... Germany or wherever you live.
  20. I'm anti-abortion in principle. I also think it's murder. Sadly, a good number of people here know my real name, so if I run for office, I'll be stuck with the 'pro-life' designation. For some people, that will make it the 10,325th reason not to vote for me. I mean, I've got so many skeletons dancing around in my closet, I put up a disco ball for them. However, I have known several people who have had abortions. A couple of them well. I think they did something wrong and made a mistake, but if you think abortion is murder, then you should also believe that forgiveness is divine. Not one of the people I've known who had abortions did it frivolously. It was a brutal decision and I thought my place wasn't to judge them. In asmuchas I could, I thought my place was to comfort them. Anyhow, stopped reading this thread a while back and come in just in time to ensure I'll piss off some members with my pro-life stance. heh However, the reason that I stopped by was because I found out something funny as relates to something I posted earlier. It turns out my blood donor card lists my so called race as Hispanic. hehe This is because when I was in the hospital for my burst appendix years ago, the staff there determined that I should be classified as Hispanic. I think it helps for statistical evaluation or something. ...But I would have put 'white' if they'd asked, so I don't know why it ended up that way. I don't remember talking about it with anyone. Of course, my appendix had been burst for some time, so some of it's a bit fuzzy anyway.
  21. Latest update and they've got over 20% of their goal. They could pull it off. Seems like a little bit of a steep climb, but you never know. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/537511454/seven-dragon-saga-by-tactical-simulations-interact/posts/1170360 EDIT: Forgot to put in the link
