Really, we worry about bird flu, mad cow disease, and a host of other problems but we're willing to drive the freeways. Walking down the street after dark in a big city is more dangerous than eating raw hamburger. SARS? It's killed... what? less than a hundred people?
I understand that mobilizing the health community to combat these diseases has undoubtedly lessened the danger, but the danger was undoubtedly overstated by the media in the first place. Everyone anticipates the next pandemic, but pushing the panic button over west nile, bird flu, or mad cow just doesn't make sense to me.
