Yes I'd rate KOTOR in my top 10. In no specific order: My Top 5 System Shock 2 Deus Ex Fallout Planescape: Torment Thief II: The Metal Age SS2 though, ever since I first played it... till today... maybe not the best game ever, but it is my Favourite. Never before or since has a game gripped me... and not let go until the end. When I killed that monster, the metal-mother, the self-proclaimed digital godless Goddess called SHODAN -- Was I finally freed from that unholy alliance. It was truly awesome.

PS:T was a great experience... your allies (Morte, Grace, etc) alone made it worthwhile. I also like the way you could *interact* with the world based on stat checks through dialogue options. KOTOR too was a great adventure. *HK-47:"Yes, meatba... master..."* I am playing Vampire: Bloodlines atm and I think its very good. Though not on the level of either KOTOR or PS:T.

Seeing as this is supposed to be a sequel to FO1&2, I would prefer they keep TB, ISO-view and SPECIAL. But like Tod Howard says in the interview they will do what they think is fun. And to my knowledge Bethesda have never done a TB game. This I think makes it clear that FO3 would probably be RT and possibly worse off for it. IMHO. Still, I believe if a game is designed with thoughtfulness toward gameplay/fun-factor, it becomes moot to the player whether its RT/TB. Its all in the design. I certainly don't judge my games by whether they are RT/TB. But rather fun-factor, immersion and gameplay.

Well. Its a good interview. Nicely done, Mr.Teatime! A lot of relevant questions. And it seems like Bethsoft know they have something s.p.e.c.i.a.l. How to interpret/translate the answers is a different matter though. Why is it so hard for them to give straight-forward answers. It would put an end to all this speculation. e.g: 3/4 isometric view -> yes/no TB or RT -> yes/no instead of: "Whilst every fan tends to have a different idea of what precisely Fallout 3 should be, there are a few things that most of us are unified on. Are you aware of the strong desires for turn-based combat and the classic 3/4 top-down viewpoint? Do you think pure turn-based combat in an RPG is viable in today's market? Yes, of course we've heard many of the old-school fans regarding the view and combat resolution. What's viable today? Certainly turn-based combat limits your audience to a small number, but I do find that audiences will come if your game is good enough and the presentation is superb. Ultimately we'll do what we think will be the most fun. Are they worried they would dissapoint anyone or what? I reckon folks shouldn't get their hopes up just yet. This game will be in development for a long time to come. I'm gonna wait till I see in-game screenshots of combat and dialogue, or a movie clip.

Second part of Damien "Puuk" Foletto interview
zer"0" replied to Gorth's topic in Computer and Console
The Black Hound aka "Jefferson" aka "BG3" sounded really good. Van Buren could have been a decent follow-up to Fallout2... We will never know what might have been. These days feel like the return of the dark age... *que ::melancholy voice:: "Where, oh where wilt thou hide, ye RPG of olde --where?" at least we have FO and PST. -

Gamespot Rumor: Troika shutting its doors
zer"0" replied to Gryphcon's topic in Computer and Console
I don't think people should be so quick to put Troika in their hole and forget them. I for one hope they pull through this. Resist ... Troika ... resist ... * Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night * Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. :From The Poems of Dylan Thomas: I poets... -
Thanks for the linkage. I did not know of this. In fact it looks really cool. :D

Gamespot Rumor: Troika shutting its doors
zer"0" replied to Gryphcon's topic in Computer and Console
Not good news/rumour. I hope everything works out OK for them. Would hate to lose another RPG developer. I mostly enjoyed the games they made. Todays financial evironment makes it really hard to be an independant developer though. A company needs some kind of cash-cow slash trademark that is popular and recognized, to ensure a decent ROI. Why do we see so many sequels, remakes and licensed movie IP nowadays? Exactly because making something new or original is a hit or miss scenario economically. Especially with rising costs of development and increasing manhours. Making games for a living has always been a challenge. Nowadays its downright risky. -
Yeah its cool. Kinda like a special encounter. The raiders think you are their long lost leader returned... You have to be wearing the 'MADMAX' leather armor, and have either high luck and/or high charisma. See you in the Wastelands, Punk!

More strategically varied than Homeworld. Cap ships are less dominating. You can't mass anything and expect to win. Frigs without 'vette support get eaten alive by bombers, 'vettes without fighter support get dominated by frigs, supercaps without frigs get shot up by enemy frigs, etc. Also, the maps are much smaller than Homeworld maps, and resources get drained very quickly. This makes carriers much more important as mobile resource-escort bases. Resource ops are easier to defend than in Homeworld, since the resource drops (with the aid of static turrets sprinkled about them) can fend off most small bomber sorties and even ion frig jumps. Less strike craft management is needed, but more cap ship management is neccessary, compared to Homeworld. Tactics based on special weapons (grav well, cloak gen) tend to have a greater impact in battle than Homeworld (they're also much more expensive). Whereas in the original Homeworld you can essentially counter anything the enemy can throw at you by massing frigs/supercaps (assuming you outnumber the enemy), you can't in Homeworld 2. Scout, counter with the right units/strats, or lose. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks mithrandir. It sounds nice.

After ages of reading reviews on the net, and accolades on forum boards. A couple of weeks ago, I finally tracked down a copy. Planescape: Torment - impressive.
-
Cool thread. Another great RTS is Homeworld. I 've yet to play Homeworld 2, I wonder how the sequel stacks up.
-
Yeah, nice work man.

The screens look good imho. Lets hope the game is too.

Ditto. Plus the death-animations rock...

Actually, I agree with Kumquat. Starcraft Broodwar is probably the most balanced rts game. Warcraft was fun while it lasted. With Frozen Throne exp. its much better. The reason I stopped playing War:FT was that the micro is killer. If you can't micro at least as well as your opponent your dead. That plus herocraft killed the fun factor for me. (I found that micro-ing my Heroes was essential to win) And every single game turned out nearly the same. Bottomline: I got bored with WAR3:FT. That still hasn't happened with Starcraft - Me and my brother play a game whenever we get to LAN with some friends. "My life for Aiur!!"

Zakk Wylde kicks Ass! Also: Slayer are doing the soundtrack for the end of the world. "God Hates Us All" is one of the greatest albums ever. For me personally... I know some people really hate Slayer, I wonder why?

The 'Codex has its ways, nevertheless those reviews were done by independant sites. 'Codex put up links to both good and bad reviews of Bloodlines, Kotor2 and many other rpgs they like to keep tabs on. I can't speak for the 'Codex, but imho alot of said venom is done tongue in cheek
