  1. * FALLOUT * & * FALLOUT II * The best cRPGs out there imho... hah! Kotor is a fun game to play. PST is Legend. Still play it now and again (no rose coloured glass here). Suffice it to say that our opinions differ in this matter.
  2. I chose to merge with Helios. Why? "A decent shot at immortality right there. In short I could become a demi-god, essentially taking Page's place as ruler of the world. Under different circumstances I would have probably been at Bob Page's side. Walton Simmons was much more a role model to me than Paul ever was. Though certain unforeseen events led to all out confrontation. Fools! Don't they see I am the future, new age ... I am Dues Ex Machina."
  3. Well, Troika's gone. ... I don't think we'll see a game by them anytime soon. As to the in-game jibe, its most probably an in-joke, I have no opinions on it. It would be interesting though, to see where Tim Cain, Leonard Boyarsky etc. end up. ... After all they undoubtably do have a lot of talent. I wonder if they will decide to stay in the gamebiz? Word has it a ex-Troikean is already working for Obsidian. Black Isle imho is Legend. Most of the games they had a hand in creating or producing, I enjoyed. Who knows, if Interplay just had better management, what Black Isle might have achieved. Alas 'tis not here nor there. I see no curse just human error and cold reality.
  4. Fallout Manual Fallout 2 Manual Click on the little download button at the bottom. About item transfer to Ian : Just use you "Steal" skill on him. A quick shortcut is to press "3" on the keyboard and then click on Ian. This brings up the Inventory transfer screens. btw : All your skills map to the keyb. keys 1 ~> 8 ... e.g: sneak=1; steal=2 etc... Have fun!
  5. I like creating my character before I venture into the wasteland. That is part of the charm of cRPGs to me. Torment has a lot of that integrated character advancement in it though. Many dialogues, actions etc. had effects on your char, even certain quests' outcome had some altering. e.g: The way your alignment changed etc. In Fallout some actions led to change of skills. Like watching the brotherhood knights training, your unarmed and melee fighting improved. But total integrated character creation? If anyone can create such a system and make it transparent to the player. I say go for it. The main thing for me roleplaying a character is that there is a challenge, as well as events/actions that make my character feel unique. Thus changing my style of character and play has different challenge and unique actions/consequences. One of the ways developers have of doing this, is by using pre-generated character systems like D&D and SPECIAL. Morrowind was an effort in that direction (gameplay based character) and also a very unbalanced game. Still if anyone can do it and its fun... it sounds interesting. Why not?
  6. I ain't gonna argue with you. There are few things that could be better and that is the inventory display and management. Most everything else has keyboard shortcuts. I find it second nature by now --> I don't "see" the interface, I play my character. Give it a few playthroughs and you will see the beauty of the system too. As a whole I find Fallout unsurpassed in RP goodness, even today after seven years of playing it. And that in the end, is what matters most to me. Still I know what you are saying ... the interface may be getting a bit outdated, yeah? :edit: I hear alot of really good things about Arcanum. Says if you like Fallout, you may like Arcanum as well. Hope I can find it one of these days.
  7. Congratulations to the fine folks at Obsidian. Its a good game.
  8. Damn. Its true. Good luck to all the ex-Troikans, may you find a brighter future.
  9. DoW is a really cool RTS. Perfect for an expansion. I can't wait... (w00t) Link: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050215/latu009_1.html " To feature deeper single-player experience and a new, fifth Race. The Imperial Guard Based on the world of Warhammer 40,000 -- the dark, futuristic, fantasy universe from Games Workshop. Scheduled to release in fall 2005. "
  10. Servant_of_Eru: This is using the 4-cd version patched to 1.1 official plus Platter's fix 1.37 I suppose there's no difference though.
  11. The 2-disc version is already up to date and doesn't need the patch. Though I'd recommend installing PLATTER's fix pack as it fixes a few scripts and dialogues regarding NPCs. Here you can see what it fixes. : http://www.planescape-torment.org/ The 4-disc version requires the 1.1 Patch. http://official.planescape-torment.org/trmt11.exe Don't know if its included on the 2-disc version or not. Here's a link to the manual. http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/Torment/Torment_manual.rar Its a quick and informative read.
  12. This game rocks! Jack is ****in' cool! Plus you could actually role-play. I love the M-rated content and atmoshpere. Yes combat drags down later, but the first 2/3rds make up for it in spades. I reckon the combat heavy parts after the great first half as its worst minus. With all the clans it even has alot of replayability. I especially liked hearing news on the radio that I had a hand in. I have to say that I had very little performance problems. Most maps loaded in 15/20 secs for me. No crashes either. Funny how many devs get cut slack, but Troika always gets slammed. Guess their buggy reputation caught up with them. All in all its worth playing. Especially if like me, you want to play something original and different. In a swamp of sequels and remakes it stands out as a refreshing and a somewhat mature take on White Wolf 's Vampire universe.
  13. Its very disheartening to read about all the problems many are having, ATI bugs and CTDs, video hangs, unfinished quests, et all. Log on to Gamespy/IGN forums to taste the wrath of 12 yo noobs. ROFL1!! Kind of surprised too. Seeing as its the same engine and tech of KOTOR1. Tech which is getting a bit long in the tooth now. Guess I'll hold of on purchasing TSL. Too bad I was kind of lookiing forward to it. Lets hope to see if a patch gets released, sometime in the future. I'll be playing Bloodlines meanwhile. At least it was patched and runs fine on my PC. Good luck to those with problems, hope its gets resolved somehow.
  14. Well Musopticon, where do I begin? For starters it has a really great and creepy atmosphere - very immersive... I guarantee that you will have more than a few - "Jerking-back-from-the-screen" scares. Some people I know stopped playing, they couldn't go on. Also the artwork is very tastefull. Nice Victorian style, and a bit old Gothic. Not least The Sound... for me it truly brings the adventure to life. Standing at the top of the stairs, the shrieking wind -- a high-pitched whistle, the clap of a far off shutter. The old creepy mansion creaking and cracking. ... Sudden mad laughter and blood-curdling screams from the big kitchen below, where you know there is no one alive ... Its very spooky. It has a decent yarn, involving an old family, crazy cults and things from the beyond. A very good game, worth its retail price. Though not perfect - At times I was wandering around with no clue as to the next objective, which had me travelling to and fro battling monsters, leading to some irritation. The combat system is a bit quirky too. Some spells are useless and take a bit of practice to use effectively. One word: "Gel'ziabar" With powerful weapons few and far between. Lets just say that it isn't an easy game and you should be prepared for some unfortunate deaths. Actually I should say: gruesome deaths. If you have never been afraid of monsters ... well then you have never seen "The Undying". Which leads me to the monsters and characters... The modeling and animation are excellent. Evil characters look really evil and most creatures are very detailed. It holds up even today and accomplishes its goal: Making you dread walking into the next area, making you wonder what new horror you'll witness. Imho. One of the few truly underrated games. Somedays I just think they don't make games like they used to. ::edit:: I recommend playing the game ... alone ... at night
  15. I think its only human. But I am surprised many times, by some people's memory capacity. I find it hard watching movies more than once, and I only replay a game if it has multiple endings or classes/abilities. Still if you had died and regenerated back to live like TNO, mayhap you would also lose some memories. Imagine playing Torment over and over... losing your memory and starting all over...
  16. I know what you are saying, System Shock 2 is my favourite game ... but these are the facts. Reasons for the Fall: A Post-Mortem On Looking Glass Studios Peace out.
  17. Very nice, I like the style and idea of the game. It's original. I'll now be looking out for this. Thanks for the heads-up.
  18. Kaftan, here is part of the chat I had with Morte...
  19. Do I smell a ... troll? <_<

  21. FO1, 2, PS:T. or alternatively PS:T, FO1 -> FO2 -> FO2 -> FO2. I also recently got PS:T, and I can tell you one thing. (no spoilers, ) You are in for some of the best CRPG gaming/reading there is. Plus the game has replay value too. A useful resource: http://www.planescape-torment.org/ ps. Have Fun!
  22. So they're not dying after all? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Best to wait for official word... I was just foolin' around... Seeing as the thread has totally gone off the rails into an anti-piracy jihad.
  23. And meanwhile in other news: TROIKA LIVES!!! ::grampybone sez:: "Still the dark spirits are, their flesh weak... but like cold currents from the deep sea brings change" ::heh heh::
