I own that game and it was really great! It has at least 4 different endings but is quite short overall. It was very interesting for its time, but it still might be worth a look nowadays. If it's only for 1 euro, go get it. BTW, isn't there a program that allows you to play old games on new pcs (I think there was a thread about that here...)

see? even YOU were tempted by the great visuals! I really wonder if the game is that fun to play though...

What kind of sausage are we talking about?
-
I know how I administer it, but a gentleman doesn't speak of such things. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So why aren't you explaining it? " Kidding! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Didn't she choke because of a sausage, like the one we see on the picture? Or did I get it all wrong, once again?

HA! That shouldn't sound as big news. The eldricht knight is one of the crappiest prestige classes afterall...

Actually, I just remembered that I own Morrowind (a friend of mine gave it to me). I shall give it another shot and then decide if Oblivion is for me. But again, many people here disliked Morrowind but liked Oblivion. What am I supposed to think? That the 2 games are quite different and that I can like one without liking the other?

How did Llyranor manage to edit Baley's post? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was asking myself the same question...

Yep, I hated Morrowind but like Oblivion. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually, I think I might like Oblivion because of its open-endness. I like travelling in virtual worlds, acting freely. I believe I will get pretty much the same experience as the one I had with GTA San Andreas. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Then why did you not like Morrowind? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The graphics and the interface were unappealing. And the game automatically started in first-person mode. As I thought it was the only mode available, I gave it up. Oblivion seems to have nicer graphics and seems to offer a lot more than Oblivion did (maybe because it has better technology). Just note that I am not looking for the ultimate role-playing experience. I am fine with action-adventure games too.

Yup. Amazing, ain't that?

Actually, I have noticed that the windows folder is approximatelly 2 GB on any machine. That is probably the case for my weird pc. If you add all the necessary programs to allow it to do basic tasks (Acrobat, etc), that will make 2,5-3 GB. Today, I only have 2.5 GB of free space on that pc with no games installed on it. That makes in total 5.5-6 GB of HD. If I remember correctly, Kotor 1 requires you to have at least 5 GB of free space. Since my first installation worked fine, that means that I had around 7,5-8 GB of HD. Where did the 2 GB go in between? How did they disappear? That is a total mystery to me, but the facts are there: I can't install Kotor 1 on that pc, since it says that I don't have enough space. It's quite disturbing because I have double-checked to make sure that all unnecessary files and folders were deleted. I still don't have enough space!!! Damn computers!!! I will write my texts on marble from now on... EDIT: Hades: no, my laptop has 50 GB of HD, not my desktop pc.

As a matter of fact, I can't believe that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Believe or not, that's how it is. I was really surprised when I discovered this. This computer is weird though because its box is longer horizontally than vertically (in other words, it's not the tower box most of us are used to see but it looked more like the really old computers from the late 80s and early 90s... it's a pentium 4 though, so it's definitely new). I suspect that some colleague of my father gave it to him. That computer was probably used in an office and didn't serve any other purpose than typing texts and sending mails. EDIT: astrOcreep: to answer your question, I believe this pc is not upgradable because of the box's design. I will probably hae to buy a new one. Actually, I believe I should wait till Dragon Age gets released so that I can play on the same computer all of the recent high spec games on my new pc (NWN2, FEAR, Kotor 1&2, Oblivion, GTA, etc).

KotORs have a problem with integrated graphics card. It won't run on them. I think there is an unofficial fix though. Not sure, check the tech support forums. Laptops are rarely good for gaming, unless built specifically for it and then they are quite pricey. Well... 3-4000$ maybe? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually, the computer I was tallking about in that post was the desktop one.

My dad bought me, last summer, a new desktop computer but it turned out to be crappy as hell. I don't even know where he got it from, but he didn't pay much for it. It's a pentium 4 with only 5GB of HD!!!! Can you believe that? The graphics card must be crappy too. I almost managed to play Kotor 1 with it but it seemed that I couldn't meet one (and only one! :'( *damn you*) requirement. I don't even remember what it was. There was almost no space left in the HD, so I uninstalled it. I then installed a few other games, and after completing them, I wanted to give another shot with Kotor. So I uninstalled them, tried to install Kotor and this stupid machine told me that I didn't have enough space for that! I tried to remove all the files and folders from my previous games, but for nothing. It seems that my HD's capacity was reduced to 3.5 GB. I really hate technology!!!!!

I am using an E Machine POS with a Radeon X700 video card. Nearly bottom of the line. Don't tell me you are using a Pentium 133?!?!?!? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hell no! My computer is not that bad! But I don't consider it to be good since it can't even play KOTOR 1, which is an old game by today's standards. For your information, it's a Pentium Centrino, 50GB HD, 1,70GHz, 504 MB RAM, and I don't know about the graphics card. Since it's an IBM thinkpad (R50e series), I guess I have an IBM integrated one.

Didn't I just say that I planned to buy a new pc?
-
You wouldn't want to know what kind of pc I am using... :'(
-
Actually, my pc is not powerful enough to play the KOTOR games. I have played KOTOR 1 on a friend's pc, though. Anyway, I planned to buy a new computer, so I wondered which high-spec games I could get along with it.

Then I will come back to my initial question: is it possible for me, who didn't like Morrowind, to find Oblivion interesting? We have to keep in mind here that I loved all the IE games (except for PS:T *don't kill me, please*), NWN, and have enjoyed playing KOTOR 1. All I am looking for, from other games, is the possibility to travel and act as I want in a vast interactive world. I remember when I was playing GTA: san andreas, that I loved this sense of "freedom". The same can be said, to some extent, for the N64 Zelda games. Is Oblivion what I am looking for, or will I find it boring from the first quest, or after completing a few quests?
-
Besides Oblivion, do you think I have missed much by not playing Morrowind?
-
Reminds me of the times I play NWN in multiplayer mode, in some kind of Persistent World. I find this actually funny and enjoyable. But I haven't played that much in MP, so it might get tiresome after a while.
-
Thanks for your answers. I still don't know if I will buy it. Maybe I should check if any of my friend has it. Anyway, this is really a premature question. But which one between NWN2 and Oblivion has the best graphics? I hear people complaining, for example, about the characters' faces in Oblivion, but I don't think they are any worse than NWN2's (it's just an impression though).
-
From the many pics of Oblivion I have seen, I couldn't prevent myself from wondering whether I should buy this game or not. Apparently, the game's world is vast and you can do pretty much whatever you want, and go wherever you want. The graphics are also amazing (are they better than NWN2, btw?). Anyway, I have been looking for a long time for a game like that. The problem is that I once tried playing Morrowind, and the game didn't appeal to me at all. First of all, I hate first-person games (whether they are RPGs or other types of games). Secondly, the interface was kind of awkward. I may not have given enough time to the game though and have missed a great gaming experience. I really don't know. Do we have to always be in first-person mode? Is Oblivion like Morrowind? I mean, do we play it the same way or have there been some major improvements? Is there any chance that I will like it even if I didn't like Morrowind? Cheers.

What game IS that?

Yeah, but their mods have actually proved to be quite good... They show the potential capacities of their designers.
