AWESOME! I am gonna get it for sure! BTW, am I some kind of diviner or what? Just a few days ago, I created a thread asking questions about the pc version of JE, and now it comes true...
-
no It's a first person rpg horror shooter <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, I guess I just lost my interest in that game. The only 1st person shooters I like to play are the Medal of Honor series.
-
Is this a 3rd-person view RPG?

WTH!!! I went missing for a couple of days and when I came back, I discovered that people were making fun of me, even though I had not posted anything deserving such a treatment. You will definitely regret doing this some day, SP... and I will be the one laughing out loud then. It's not as if I can't live without TBH. I know that all of you wanted to get your hands on it. But since all of you remain passive and do nothing else than rant and whine, someone else had to do the dirty job and put some pressure on the developpers. If they notice that there are still fans out there, they won't totally bury the project, and use some ideas in another game. This might be the case with NWN2, and I refuse to give up now that the odds are in our favor (Sawyer -the "father" of TBH - has joined Obsidian after all, and the NWN2 's engine offers more possibilities than the previous one). I wouldn't be creating all those threads, or writing those PMs to the developpers, if I didn't believe that there is a slight chance of ressurecting that damn project. Cheers.

From www.sorcerers.net We've received news from Jason Compton of the Pocket Plane Group modding community about the new game he's working on with Westley Weimer and other people from Planewalker Games founded last year. Here's a summary by Jason Compton: TBH takes place in a city-under-siege setting in the metropolis of Mal Nassrin, a city past its former glory. (Think of a city which was _once_ a national or regional capital but is no longer. It still has old buildings and architecture and culture... but such places are rarely hot destinations for tourists and the jetset.) A strange magical shield has prevented anyone entering or leaving the city for weeks. There have been reports of strange sightings of ghosts from the past, whose touch is deadly. Your player character has been largely unaware of recent developments, however, as he/she was caught up in a massive and still-unexplained explosion which decimated the neighborhood where he/she lived. With local government apparently unable to do anything about the city's predicament, a small group of concerned citizens has banded together to do something about it. You've been nursed back to health by their leader, who found your broken body on the outskirts of the obliterated neighborhood now known simply as the Wasteland. And so the adventure begins... To touch on a couple of the buzzwords experienced CRPG players are often concerned about... - The PC is not "chosen" or "divinely anointed" or anything like that, but through a combination of circumstance and tragedy just so happens to end up being the person best positioned to lead a group to triumph and, more importantly, safety. - Under the hood, the game uses OpenGL for display, which was a deliberate choice to help promote portability and stability. However, we leave pioneering, groundbreaking visual effects to others. - We are not using a 2D engine out of religious conviction. It just happened to be what made the most sense for us, given our available talent. - We are using an original ruleset which we believe strikes a good balance between being human-readable and taking advantage of the fact that computers are very good at math.

Same in PnP your still limited by the rules and common sense. Being finite is still quite different from being given a pre designed character and told to play it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As I said, this is not the worse aspect of PS:T, since the way you control the main character through choices, is not much different from that in BG. Period. Besides, playing a pre-generated character is just as like playing any JRPG.
-
But it's not a matter about what the others do, but about what YOU do.
-
The truth is that they aren't much more linear than PS:T. The choices we get are really stupid ones, since they don't affect much the outcome of the main quest. However, I feel more comfortable knowing that I am playing my own, specific and unique character. I have the opportunity to define him through some series of dialogue choices, even though they are rather unimportant. The difference between IE games are minor and mostly rely on the gameplay (create your character, create a whole party, or play a character while having a huge amount of choices to make). PS:T didn't appeal to me mostly because of its lame graphics and the weird battle/equipment/managment system. I don't expect much from video games anyway. I just play them for fun, and am only looking for a decent story that will make me want to make it to the end (I would like to note here that I must own around 50 JRPGs, and I have barely completed 20% of them, since the stories didn't grab my attention long enough). On the other hand, I have completed most of the IE games (BG1 and PST remain due to the lack of time to play them).

I have been reading all of your replies, and I noticed that you just keep turning in circles. Why don't you just admit that, while being a CRPG offering many choices, PS:T uses a different approach than that of the BG and IWD games. In a sense, as Ginthaeriel has pointed out, PS:T seems more similar to JRPGs than the IE games. Indeed, you DO get a pre-generated character (I won't complain about this, because it is sometimes necessary to impose a specific character on players for the purposes of the story... I even tend to do that when I am the DM in p&p sessions - and it has never turned out to be a bad thing, despite my friends being relunctant with this at the beginning) and the story is more linear than one would think. However, one significant difference with JRPGs, is that you can make a great number of choices that affect your character, your party members, and your surounding environment. Now, I won't say either that BG and IWD are the perfect examples of non-linearity in video games (if such a thing even exists, which I doubt). However, they do much better than PS:T. The other thing that I liked with those games (including NWN here) is that you get to create your own character(s). This is very important, to my opinion, for the immersion factor. You can "identify" yourself with the character and can feel the impact of the story and your choices on your character. When my character gets hurt or tricked, I feel mad because I have put so much effort in creating him. It is also one of the reason I play RPG: for having the possibility to manage my characters as I see fit. I hate being reduced to playing another one's story (just like in any JRPG, and to some extent in PS:T). That was my 2 cents, but I couldn't resist putting it in this discussion. Cheers.

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view.php?id=140422 Great fun, although it spoiled one element of the story I didn't know about... damn it! EDIT: I found some other parodies of the same type: http://www.zelda.com.br/Flash.php

OOOPS! I had no idea! I apologize for hurting indirectly your feelings, even though I wasn't referring to the guy on the pic when using the word 'brat'.
-
I refuse to talk to imitations. Now... where's the original?
-
If Jefferson is made as a NWN2 module, the dev cycle will be rather quick. BIO released 2 expansions in the same year, remember?
-
You will regret saying this and will be thanking me instead, when Jefferson will finally be released (no matter what form it takes).
-
You mean rise. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Look who's talking! A brat with an eye-patch imitating another brat with an eye-patch (the latter also being a fan of some female video-gaming group)... pathetic, in my opinion... "

Well, I see Kotor 1&2, NWN2 and DA as the next-generation CRPGs, following the general trend of the IE games. In a sense, these are the closest equivalents of these games that we will ever find (moreover, they were made by the same developpers). I will gladly accomodate myself with those titles. We can't expect companies to make games using always the same formula. Change was necessary and I find it cool to get a sci-fi CRPG. The fact is that I would like to see more D&D CRPGs, but it seems that trend has kinda died these last years.
-
I won't fall to your level... You can always go play Barbie on the PS... Perhaps you like that game more the IE ones, which explains your way of thinking
-
OH? because "Frag Dolls" supporters aren't losers? "
-
Personally, I believe that PS:T sucked too. The game was lame and the graphics were uglier than BG1's. I shouldn't even have included that game in my thread's title. The only CRPGs that I consider worthy of my attention are the BG and IWD series, and NWN. I refuse to play anything else than those. JRPGs were fine too but I stopped playing them a few years ago... my tastes have changed since I discovered the IE games.

Why am I the only one to dislike the Fallout games? They really stink...
-
LOL I have created a similar thread in my College's forum and have posted there everything we have been saying and every link we have been given. People started getting annoyed by all this spam, and one guy sent me a mail entitled "eat this!" with the following link: http://orange32.com/monkeypants/ mmmm, I enjoy so much annoying other people. I have to find something else now....

He kinda looks like Shriek... A cousin of him, maybe? I wouldn't be surprised!
