sometimes, I wonder why I keep reading his books... I didn't know I was a masochist...

I would love if Salvatore would read this thread! :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> is there any way we can contact him?
-
I don't really care if Drizzt is the only good drow amongst his race. It's just that I dislike the character he has come to be after all his adventures. I can't imagine a proud warrior whining about his fate. The only way for him to face his inferiority complex is going on killing sprees.

Dear Volourn, Drizzt was indeed vulnerable in the Dark Elf Trilogy: he couldn't save his father, his clacker friend or the humans that got killed. He became the Hunter as he suffered loneliness. He got caught by Illithids. etc etc etc The reason I liked that trilogy was because I had the feeling that I was reading a true d&d story with characters that were quite strong but not strong enough to prevent some things from happening. After that trilogy, all I got to read was about a drow elf who was always asking himself the same questions, but expressed in a different manner. Why can't people accept me as I am? oh, but i have my dear friends... Oh, I love Cattie Brie but I can't marry her because blablabla... I could go on like this forever. He is always complaining and inventing himself excuses to be sad and to kill more people/creatures/monsters. All this is too much repetitive to my taste and Drizzt is turning in circles. It's just an excuse for Salvatore to keep writing new novels. There's no way I will feel more sympathy towards Drizzt because of that self-pity bUll****... On the contrary, Entreri is more pragmatic. He has suffered in his youth, yes; but he adapts himself to the reality of his surroundings and does everything that is necessary for his survival. I never heard him complain about his existence. He just had a time of self-doubting in the underdark but that was a turning-point in his life, so it's ok, i guess.... Concerning your arguments: -Has he really lost any true battle? It has always been a draw with entreri, he caught captured by the drow at some point but that was no fight, and he escaped from Obould. In every fights, even though he was outnumbered and very likely to be killed, he survived in a less than credible fashion -Wulfgar was dead, so I guess it was ok to love his ex-wife -What innocent are you talking about? Do you mean the elf girl that seeked revenge on the basis of a misunderstanding? I was happy she got killed anyway, since she had turned to the dark side of the force

LOL! one thing I know for sure is that some of the authors taking part in that project are crappy with a big C. One of them wrote the BG novels (based on the games) which are considered to be the worst books ever written in the history of litterature.

Haven't read those since they weren't written by Salvatore himself...

I began reading Drizzt's adventures with the Dark Elf Trilogy, which I loved. The most interesting fact was that Drizzt was almost alone (his only friends were a deep gnome and a clacker) and was making his way to the surface in a very heroic fashion. I also liked very much the part in which he gets to the surface and gets to fight his way till he finds a peaceful place for him to live. Then, the icewind dale trilogy shattered the good image I had of Drizzt. Salvatore had made him too perfect, too cliche... I continued reading the other novels with the hope it would get better, but I was mostly disappointed. I only liked the parts where Drizzt goes back to the Underdark, where Mithral Hall is attacked by drows and where Entreri and Jarlaxle collaborate. The last trilogy (the twin swords) was ok. I have come to like the dwarves of mithral hall and I find them more interesting than Drizzt (they die at least). Anyway, Salvatore has the merit of making good descriptions of fights and of big battles. That may the last reason I am reading his books. Too bad, there are no better FR novels out there...

I don't mind Drizzt, but now i hate YOU... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, Salvatore's books are the only decent ones when it comes to the d&d genre. Of course they can't beat the dragonlance Chronicles trilogy and Legends trilogy. I have also read Elaine Cunningham's Starlight & Shadows trilogy but I hated it. The end was rushed and her main character (the female drow Liriel) is perfect... too perfect... even more than Drizzt. She learns new spells just like that, by reading books and she wins way too easily her fights. I believe this is an american trend in which writers fall in love with their characters and refuse to make them vulnerable in any fashion. Reminds me of hollywood movies

Does anyone share my hatred towards Cadderly the priest? I don't know why it has come to this but most of Salvatore's characters seem antipathic to my eyes. The only exception is Entreri: the perfect anti-hero...

How about the secene with the underage girl?
-
Oddly enough, I enjoy reading the adventures of the dwarves of Mithral Hall much more than reading the adventures of Drizzt's Band.

No, I have played both games and have tried to kill Drizzt in both of them. In BG1, I wanted to kill him in a straightforward way (using no tricks), but I always failed. I tried many times but never succeeded. I finally gave up until I got bored at some point and created a Drizzt with the CLUAConsole command. I was lucky that day because some "smurfs" (forgot their name) got in the way between my characters and Drizzt, and I managed to kill him. In BG2, I never managed to kill Drizzt without losing a party member. And the only time I managed to kill him was byt turning into the Slayer. I can't understand why my kensai/mage couldn't beat him with his standard skills. anyway, besides the challenge of killing him, I never felt any hate towards him. I can't say I feel sympathy for him either since he's a flawless character in the novels. There's no way you can "identify" yourself with the character since he's above everyone else...

Can someone explain me, please? I have read all of Salvatore's novels and I can't bring myself to hate that character. Of course, it's annoying that he's uber cool and invincible but he has the merit to have some interesting moral values. I just asked myself the question when reading this thread? http://www.sorcerers.net/cgi-bin/ultimateb...4911;p=1#000005 Cheers.

How's he supposed to save money for the "Revo" if he's buying Gamecube games? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Besides, is it really necessary to start buying games from now? I guess they will still be available (in stores or on the web) when the Revo will come around. When is the Revo supposed to be released? Does anyone have a clue about its approximate price? EDIT: I just made a quick search and noticed that the new X-box 360 is sold at 300 euros. I won't even dare imagine how much the other consoles will cost. Of course, with all the competition, prices might drop quickly enough, but I wouldn't count on that. The only moment a console's price decrease is when its time is over and next-gen consoles appear...
-
Well, I really love Mario Kart. Even if I waited for the Revolution to come, I bet that the new consoles will be quite expensive. I 'd probably have to wait for another 2 or 3 years till I buy them. The question is : do I buy a GC now or do I wait for a few months? The resident evil 4 pack is also interesting though...

Hello everyone, I was taking a look at amazon.com and I found this: http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000...9563949-4230601 This is a real bargain. I have been thinking of buying a gamecube someday but I wanted to wait till the prices dropped. Do you think that I should buy that pack? Or should I wait till the next generation consoles appear on the market?
-
Wouldn't that make you a speciesist? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I never thought someone would make a comment on a sig... the truth is that I always play human characters in d&d. No bonus stat is worth a bonus feat and proficiency in one more skill.

Seems that it isn't the best place to post such topics...

Hello everyone, There has been a trend in france during the last few years, where people make audio shows or parodies in MP3 format. Many of them are about the LOTR or even Star Wars or Star Trek. Of course, you have a few original ones featuring groups of stupid adventurers that wander in a d&d-like world, or groups of people traveling through space or making their way on some unknown planet. There are also parodies of videogames, like Zelda:wind waker or final fantasy 7 and 8 (there's even one for resident evil). Most of these shows are hilarious and well worth your time. The only problem is that they are made in french... you can always download the script and try to follow the story by reading it at the same time (if you read french that is). I have noticed that such audio parodies have also been made in english but ALL of them are about Star Wars. You will find all the links below: Site featuring a list of all french audio shows or parodies: http://wilhelm.simson.free.fr/liste.php Best parodies in french: +heroic fantasy settings http://www.penofchaos.com/warham/donjon.htm http://www.synopsite.com/pages/reflets_d_acidepag.html http://www.quete-nuiath.net/dl.php +science fiction settings http://www.knarfworld.net/kw_news.php http://adoprixtoxis.free.fr/siteflash/maine.html http://perso.wanadoo.fr/pinkwars/ +videogame parodies http://www.palaiszelda.com/parodieMp3.php http://ledemondurire.free.fr/Index2.htm English parodies: http://www.starwarsfanworks.com/ http://nightlight.grimfandango.net/ Hope you might enjou this. Since I sense people getting ironical, just ask a "certain" person for more info...

Blame Herve, that's what I do <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have an interesting piece of news about one of those games but I promised not to tell anything at this stage since it's still unofficial...

what an interesting and well-argumented answer...

actually, I don't like the way psionics work either. It is too difficult to keep track of the number of power points that are left to your character. So, I have also made changes to the psionic classes. I just removed the psionic points system and replaced it by a "power progression table". It is just like a spell progression table in which the psionic classes gain more power uses per day as they level up. Just like sorcerers, they have to pick new powers from a list each time they level up. Since psionic powers are less powerful or useful than spells, I granted more uses per power level to these classes (a 20th level sorcerer will have 6 spell uses for each spell level, while a level 20 psion will have 8 power uses for each power level).

A manga version of Star Wars has already been done and it's quite good actually... all 6 episodes have been made into manga but only the original trilogy is worth reading.
