  1. Some stupid french guy... I guess that tells everything...
  2. The best way to know if Interplay still has the property rights on the Jefferson project is to ask a lawyer. As I studied law in France, I know that unfinished projects are protected by intellectual property rights only under some conditions. Only creations are fully protected by the law (a creation is the "effective and concrete materialisation of the author's concepts and ideas"). Consequently, in order to be protected, an unfinished project has to exist in some kind of material form (electronic file, paper, etc). Now, I don't know how it works in the US but it would be interesting if Obsidian could use the concepts of Jefferson in one of its own games. It all depends on what Sawyer did while he was working at Interplay... did he write the scenario on paper or in electronic format or did he just keep everything in his mind? Concerning the character portraits and other concept drawings, maybe Obsidian could buy them from Interplay (unless they already have done so).
  3. Heya! Long time no see... I have been busy over the last few months but I keep coming here occasionally. Since NWN2's release date is getting closer, I thought that expansion packs would probably follow. With the addition of J.E. Sawyer among the Obsidian crew, it would be nice if the Jefferson project's (aka BG3: The Black Hound) characters, plot and setting were used in a future expansion. The Mystary engine used for Jefferson has become too obsolete to be used today, but with the new engine used for NWN2 this game could become a reality. It would be a shame if at least the concept of Jefferson (see the FAQ written by sammael) was not used in another game. I hope that Sawyer will manifest an interest in producing the game he was never able to complete. Cheers.
  4. Josh is now known as the former Midway employee. Interesting at how quickly IWD II is forgotten. LOL! Where's Ramza? I hope he didn't have a heart attack over thje news. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Here I am... Just passing by, though... These news are quite interesting but I believe that Jefferson still hasn't any chance of being ressurected. Maybe, they will recycle the plot for a future game or for a NWN 2 expansion... just maybe...
  5. Hello everyone! I have decided to buy a mp3 player for my birthday but I can't decide which one is better. I need such an item for 2 uses: listen to music and store files. So, I am looking for a player that has between 4-6 GB of memory. Since, I don't find the ipod very easy to use, I have looked for other brands and Creative Lab's products have caught my attention. I now hesitate between the Creative Jukebox Zen Micro 5Gb and the Creative MuvO2 FM 5Gb. They are both nice products but I can't make a choice. Some people have told me that the zen micro's battery has flaws and doesn't work as it should. I don't know if any of you guys know about such things, but I would appreciate any suggestion or advice. Cheers.
  6. Exactly... is there anything wrong with such settings? Why are you so negative?
  7. In my own p&p sessions, I have noticed that noone multiclasses his or her character. Everyone sticks with his base class from the beginning to the end of the campaign. For example, I will stick with my human Mimic (see my other threads about this special class) while my friends will stick with their fighter or wizard characters. Some people will say that this is unoriginal, but I personally prefer it that way. If everyone started multiclassing and adding prestige classes, the whole game would become too messy with numbers and various calculations. Everyone stays with a specific character and makes the best out of him. In order to add a little variety to the game, I decided to change a bit the 3.5E rules and replace the prestige classes by kits (yup, the way they work in BG2). Someone told me that the result would be exactly the same as with using a prestige class, but I do not agree with that claim (I will go into details for this in another post since I don't have the time to do this now). The main idea is that it will allow us to play "unique" characters starting from lv1 (I believe kits will be easier to use than prestige classes). You will no longer need to meet some prerequisites in order to take levels in those kits. However, the kits will have the same development table (from lv1 to lv20) as their respective core classes (ie: the assassin will have the same table as the rogue and the only difference will be that I will remove someof the rogues abilities to replace them with the assassin's ones). Do you really use the multiclassing system? What do you thing about my idea? Cheers.
  8. I have read a lot of final fantasy novels during the last few years: amongst them most of Salvatore's books with Drizzt and Cunningham's Starlight and Shadows trilogy. I personally Salvatore's writing style and stories, with the only exception that he "protects" his characters way too much. The Dark elf trilogy is probably the most well-written set of novels among his collection. Moreover, he tends to be repetitive especially concerning the vendetta between Drizzt and Artemis. I don't like the fact that his main characters are so perfect, since this doens't make them credible. A common thing among all the people who have read Salvatore's books is that they all dislike the characters (i am no exception either) but I can't find the true source of this hartred. Concerning Cunningham, her characters were nice and interesting, but the story was way too simplistic and everything in the plot took place so conveniently for the main characters. Anyway, even though I enjoyed her books, I was more than happy when I ended her trilogy and started reading the Hunter's blades trilogy. I noticed that his writing style was really good and that salvatore had his way to immerse the reader into the FR. The story is classical and I don't expect too much out of it, but I still like epic battles, no matter how exaggerated they are. My family has given me some other fantasy novels, including the Cleric Quintet, the dragonlance legends and chronicles, and the dragonlance War of Souls trilogy. I haven't read them yet but I hope they are good. I have also been considering buying the 5 novels from the Avatar series and the 5 novels from the Elminster series but I am not too sure about it. What do you think? Cheers. PS: I was reading some reviews of the last novel of the Starlight and shadows trilogy at amazon. com and here's a funny quote i found:"Fyodor reminded me so much of my husband, so rageful, but yet so gentle, so I was really looking forward to seeing them get together and starting a family of their own" http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/078...8788865-0293734
  9. If you are looking for free mangas (not animes) translated in english, there is a way to download them from mIRC. There is a very large selection, in case you are interested. In case, you like Naruto, here's a site that has all the chapters released so far... www.narutochuushin.com
  10. By the way, I had read another testimony of some american tourists about their trip to Japan. They were on a train and there was some kind of pervert middle-aged guy who was "annoying" a teenage girl (around 18). He was kinda touching her everywhere, and telling her kinky things. Then, the american tourists decided to interfere and told the guy to calm down. There wasn't any fight and the guy calmly left the wagon, but to the american's surprise, the teenage girl was sort of displeased with the turn of events. She almost insulted the americans instead of thanking them. Now, don't tell me that japs aren't weird! And i have heard worse stories than this one... PS: if i remember well, the article was saying that these 2 people didn't know each other (the guy approched the girl all of a sudden)... so the american guys couldn't have disrupted any "love affair" going between the two of them.
  11. Well, do you? In my own group, we don't use such things as we consider them pointless. In the worst case, if things get complicated during a battle, the DM will make a drawing of the battle scene with every character's initial position and movements. Besides, we don't want to give more money to those BaStards from WotC...
  12. The thing is that I just want a new pc in order to be able to play some of the games i already own. So, my main concern is getting something cheap that would let me play NWN and Kotor 1&2. I will buy a better computer (a laptop probably) when i will finish my studies (in 2 or 3 years probably): I will then use that one to play the newest games (NWN2, DA, etc).
  13. Here's the testimony of an american teacher who got transferred in Japan. Apparently, japs are perverts... http://outpostnine.com/editorials/teacher8.html
  14. So, is this one better? http://www.surcouf.com/Catalogue/ficheprod...product=9585489 Ouch! My poor wallet!
  15. Since my current pc is kinda old (AMD Duron 700Mhz 128RAM 30Gb) and can't play NWN and Kotor, i need to get a new one. I have found some offers on a french website and I was wondering if I could find a good bargain. I already know this company and they are quite reliable. I am just looking for a pc that will allow me to play Kotor 1 and 2, and some other games that have high requirements. So, i need your suggestions to help me find a pc that suits my needs. Moreover, I don't want to spend a lot of money on that new pc. So far, I think that this offer is quite good: http://www.surcouf.com/Catalogue/ficheprod...product=9585497 And here's the link with all the offers: http://www.surcouf.com/Catalogue/ListeProd...px?idnoeud=1494 Thanks in advance! Cheers.
  16. mmm, from what i remember, the heroes miniatures are rather crappy... I just wish i could buy miniatures after being able to choose them carefully...
  17. Thanks for the help!
  18. Indeed i have already played d&d, but i just need my own tools just in case I organize some day my own p&p session without my neighbour backing me up with his stuff and books. The d&d basic set is quite interesting as it has everything that is essential for d&d rpgaming. I won't even need to buy the Phb, the MM and DMG since I can download all the rules from WotC's website. I already plan to print those rules so that i don't have to spend all my precious money on the books. I have already thought about buying dices and miniatures separately but my problem is that you can find the latter in random packs. Since you don't know what you are really buying, i thought that it would be better getting the d&d basic set IF (and only if) the miniatures within are worth the 25$ for the whole package. That is why i am asking if someone has already bought that box, so that i could know exactly what miniatures i will find in it. "heroes" and "monsters" are pretty vague terms: it could just be anything and from what i have seen at WotC website, there are some really crappy miniatures. I wouldn't want to get those.
  19. I have been wondering if that product was worth the purchase. It contains some miniatures, maps, dices and some of the d&d rules. Since i don't have any "equipment' in order to play a p&p session (i usually on my neighbour for that), i was thinking it would be worthwhile getting it. Has anyone bought it or know someone who has bought it? Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what kind of miniatures one can find in that box (from what i have read, they are non-random) because I want to know exactly what i am buying? Thanks in advance. Cheers.
  20. I have read that if you gave Sarevok his 2 handed sword ("sword of chaos" if i remember well), this seems to trigger some kind of reaction. I have tried to equip him with his weapon, but he didn't seem to recognize it. I even tried the cheat that triggers random conversations (Ctrl+I) but nothing happened either. Does anyone have a clue of what I am supposed to do in order to make him say something about his sword? Does he somehow upgrade his sword when he founds it again or does he simply make some stupid and senseless remark about it? Thanks in advance. Cheers.
  21. Here is Grok's answer to my question: "That's not the case at all with Interplay. Regardless of what Obsidian was able to do they would still need funding to make the game...and that's where the rub is. Atari isn't in a position to fund the title at the moment. But that could change...you never know. Grok" I had sent him another pm a month ago in which I was asking him if the Jeff project could be ressurected. Here's his answer: "Unfortunately, there's really no chance. We went so far as to evaluate that version of the game and decided against furthering it. BG3 will be something entirely new." So, guys, Jeffy is really dead and buried... AMEN (and one minute of silence)...
  22. I am always looking for jack-of-all-trades classes. Fortunately, the DMs let me play with my own classes (red mage, mimic). If I had to choose among the classic d&d classes, I would either pick a bard or a druid. And I always play with a neutral good character. I don't like any of the other alignements...
  23. Hmm.. he's supposed to die right? Why did they add things like "I never thought I would go to hell" if they planned for Yoshimo to die? Is there a way to prevent his death w/o cheating? N. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is possible that BIO planned to leave a choice to the players. The player would choose whether he wants to kill that character or not: "I won't kill you, yoshimo, and I can help you remove the geas spell, but you will help me on my quest" or "Die you, traitor". I guess that if that was the case, they changed their minds afterwards. The only way to save him is to leave him in any building on Brynlaw (except for the tavern in which you had some subquest) and retrieve him just after you leave Spellhold. You also have to place him near the doorway so that you can, just as you enter the building, immediately click on him and initiate a dialogue in order to make him rejoin your party. He then dies, but you can easily ressurect him. Actually, since I am not using the CLUAConsole thing, I don't consider this as cheating.
  24. If your main character is a sorcerer/ress, then pump charisma. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If I remember well, in BG2, a sorcerer's prime stat is INT. It's with the 3E rules that they changed it to CHA.
  25. In these forums, I might be the only one to hate the Fallout series and love the Infinity Engine games (BG1&2, IWD1&2). Moreover, BG2 is my favourite RPG of all time!!! To answer your questions: *only some of the lines are voice acted (those that are significant for the plot, those said by important characters in the game). This doesn't annoy me, even though I would have liked to see every line voice acted. The problem is that there is a lot of text in BG2. However, all the actors are great and I haven't been disappointed a single time (even with Minsc). Wait until you get the sentient sword: it has the ability to talk and is rather funny... *Indeed, the more your AC diminishes, the better it get... If you have something like -6 to AC, you should be ok. *If you are looking for an explanation of the AD&D rules, check Dan Simpson's FAQ and explanatory notice at: www.gamefaqs.com Cheers. PS: Buy this game, you won't regret it!
