  1. I am afraid we will never agree on this, so this will be my last post since I grow tired of this argument. Its all a matter of perception after all: you are entitled to your opinion as much as I am. Anyway, I simply cant agree with the idea of eliminating an individual just because he commited a crime. How can you even say that you don't want someone to exist? You will think I am way too soft but I find this terrible... Is that what you have been taught as a kid? Even though I am not a devout christian, I agree on the principles of christiannity. we don't have any right to decide whether one should live or die. If someone annoys you, you stop talking to him. If someone is a nuisance to society, either cast him out or lock him. If he is mentally disturbed, how can you even think about killing him? Such a person needs medical treatment... Personally, I dont believe that "evil deeds" are not performed by pure chance. A cold killer is either a very sick person or someone with childhood traumas, etc. In both cases, the person needs treatment and in the latter, the government has the responsabilty provide some prevention/information/education... I just cant bring myself to agree with your statements. We do not live in the age of the Far West. We live in a coordinated, democratic society which should respect human life. Again, I believe our disagreement lies in a difference of culture. Human rights hold a much more important place in Europe than in the US and all occidental european countries are very attached to those values. Have ya ever heard of the European Convention of Human Rights? Well, even though you have some amendments in the american constitution providing safeguards for some basic freedoms, it is in no way comparable to this Convention... So, I dont blame that much americans for supporting the death penalty... From a moral point of view, I just condemn the death penalty for all the reasons I have previously mentioned... We must show mercy and take adequate measures without falling to the level of criminals, no matter what they have done or not done to us (since I have seen many people demand the death of some guy they don't even know for the sole reason he is a criminal... Cheers.
  2. If you kill him, he wont have a chance to feel regret or, at least, think about his crime. Death is not a punishment in itself, especially in the case of a convict. You are actually doing him a favor by killing him. If retribution is what you are looking for, just drag him in a cell and let him live miserably in it with noone to talk to, etc. Then, he will for sure start thinking about how he ****ed up his life and these thoughts will never leave him... Theres nothing worst than being hauned by the ghosts of your past... You say that keeping prisoners is a waste of money... I say just use money for prevention and information instead of spending everything on the US army. War brings nothing good anyways... I have seen some nice programs financed by the States in the US in which small delinquants were having lessons on what to do and what not to do (in that case, it was prostitution and its effects on society... I think it was in California and it seemed to work quite well). Besides, you dont need to spend tons of money for prisoners. WTH, I have seen prisoners with their own tv, locker, etc... why all this luxury? Prison is supposed to be a punishment not a holiday campus... you should be deprived of whatever you like... Moreover, some States (like California) should ban some of these stupid laws that make all the prisons overcrowded (If I remember well, you are going to prison for life if you commit more than 3 offences, no matter if they are petty ones). that's just stupid...
  3. Are you sure about this? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> wasn't he ? Sorry if he wasn't, I am not american myself so I cant be sure 100%. Anyway, Bush has always been supporting the death penalty.
  4. Death penalty is not murder. Murder is a killing unsanctioned by the ruling government. The death penalty and execution that is sanctioned by the government is what is needed in this case. A person who has a total disregard for life that he or she would kill a child deserves no consideration. The death penalty is a solution. It removes the individual from society, permanently. Torture on the other hand is repugnant and a waste of time. 2 to 3 9mm bullets into the brain would suffice and more cost effective. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Does this mean that death penalty is justified because it was ordered by a government? And what if the government is unjust??? What should we think about the death penalty under Hitler or Staline's regime...? Is it ok because it's sanctioned by the government? HELL NO! The actual american gv is less than just in its decisions. Bush is a complete retard and he is the one to have re-introduced the death penalty in the US. You cannot say in any way that his decision was the best one... Killing people one way or another is not a solution. Besides, if we want to stand above murderers, we should avoid doing the same thing as them. Moreover, there are many ways to re-habilitate a criminal... Just spend less money on the US army forces and spend it on something useful, dammit!
  5. Why do you say that? Explain your thought please... I did like the trilogy though
  6. WOW! That is HUGE! I didnt think that germans were THAT paranoid... in what world do we live guys?...
  7. I didnt say he shouldn't be punished! I just happen to believe that, if we are civilised people living in a TRULY democratic country, we shouldn't even consider torture or the death penalty as a solution. Supporting the death penalty is not better than committing the murder yourselves...
  8. I am actually reading The War of Souls (Dragonlance trilogy from weis and hickman). Those books are absolutely great! I cant believe I am almost through volume three, since each book has at least 600 pages. It approximately took me one month per volume. The story is very pleasant and intriguing, the characters are very charismatic and not uber powerful (like in salvatore's novels). I also like the narrative style which consists of telling the story of a different character or group of characters in each chapter: that adds to the suspense and is not at all annoying. The Dragonlance setting is rather good, I wonder why WotC dropped it...
  9. AT LEAST! Someone gives a logical answer on these boards! What's wrong with you guys? Just by reading your posts, I notice that most of you are pro-deathpenalty and such... You are no better than this guy, ya know... Tchh, I am happy to live in Europe
  10. May the mighty Lathander protect his soul... (he was probably dreaming of D&D)
  11. Here's mine... LOL, I even managed to insert the word "Jefferson" in my first post... awww... I even wrote something about Grok, poor guy, he lost his job...
  12. There was another sentient weapon in HotU. I liked both of them though... It was just as having another Minsc in your party...

What is wrong with special effects? Its just a means to an end with regards to visual style. @calax: What do you mean by "He's screwy and doesn't work with what exsists."? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I dont have anything against special effects but they seem to have become the most important feature in movies, these last 15 years. WTH, acting, scenario and all the rest goes behing the stunning visual and audio effects. meh, I am unimpressed and feel a nostalgia for the 80's movies... What makes things worse is that the place of computers in the making of movies has gone way too far (everything is made out of computers and the actors just stand there and play, everything just looks fake)... what happened to the good "old" ways of movie-making? PS: we tend to see that in video games too (FF series for example) to my greatest disappointment... I am not someone that is easily impressed by mere eye candy...

Cant they simply make a movie without that many special effects??? The trailer sucked badly... It's just like any hollywoodian movie... and they overdid it with the spartans: the guys who made the movie read too much marvel and DC comics... meh...

Whats the point of posting stuff like that in these boards?
  17. Actually, I dont find this video funny at all! That boy got injured for real! He must have broken his leg... <_<
  18. I read somewhere on the boards of the SLRP website that the guys making M4-78 were discussing about the project's future... This is a huge disappointment for me since they might give up anytime...
  19. After some tought, I decided to change the Hitdie for both cleric and druid classes to d6 (instead of d8). Both classes will suffer from divine spell failure for wearing armor greater than light armor. However, they will keep the same skill points, same saving throw progression, same BAB and same spell progression tables. I don't know about shields however... should clerics and druids be able to carry shields? I have thought of only giving them a proficiency for bucklers only, and the ability to ignore spell failure from these bucklers...
  20. These were just ideas! I havent implemented anything yet, and may probably never do it since, lately, I have been playing a p&p session per year. It's just that I am not satisfied with the 3.5E Phb. Many of the rules don't correspond to the idea I have of some races or classes. For example, I HATE PrC and have thought of system similar to the 2E kits. I won't go into details since people will start flaming me again...
  21. I have found this site with very cool portraits (if you remove the anime ones) http://www.ventsombre.net/pnwn.php The thing that sucks is that you hace to save each pic in order to be able to use it in the game. They should have made a pack out of this...shame... For those who cant read french, click on "portraits suivants" in order to see the next page of portraits... And to say the truth, I regret NWN2 doesn't use painted portraits as its predecessor and almost all of the IE games.
  22. Apples vs Oranges. Fight! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> apples win with KO! :joy: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Does anyone know where I can get all these custom pics for NWN? I am sick and tired of always using the same ones... <_< PS: please, dont give me a search link at the nw vault. I need an accurate link that will allow me to download those damn portraits...
  23. Still, you are not supposed to swing your wiimote like a madman. It even says on the official site that small but swift movements are enough for the purpose of playing...
  24. I had to read it 5 times before understanding the joke...
  25. Just found the picture I was talking about. Here it is and Enjoy! http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p214/ra...sressurects.gif
