  1. was pleasant surprised by john wick. over the last two decades, keanu would be near the top o' our list o' actors who drive us away from movies. limited. wooden. dull. am certain when our friend recommended john wick, we gave him our best anton ego. nevertheless, we enjoyed the film and not simple in spite o' keanu's performance. is it possible for lightning to strike twice in the same place? sure it is, but... HA! Good Fun!
  2. what they "don't talk about" is not same as multiple instances o' obama calling for the creation o' a national police force. it simple ain't. again, Gromnir has concerns 'bout a national police force, and such a thing is unconstitutional regardless, but the claim you made is simple untrue. the issues you raise is valid. am even agreeing with some o' what you say. no need to muck up the water with mischaracterization o' obama statements. HA! Good Fun!
  3. to quote vol, "no." weird right-wing sites has been making such claims for a Long time... most is linked to the following quote: "We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded. " actual full quote: Obama, July 2, Colorado Springs, CO: [As] president I will expand AmeriCorps to 250,000 slots [from 75,000] and make that increased service a vehicle to meet national goals, like providing health care and education, saving our planet and restoring our standing in the world, so that citizens see their effort connected to a common purpose. People of all ages, stations and skills will be asked to serve. Because when it comes to the challenges we face, the American people are not the problem – they are the answer. So we are going to send more college graduates to teach and mentor our young people. We’ll call on Americans to join an energy corps, to conduct renewable energy and environmental clean-up projects in their neighborhoods all across the country. We will enlist our veterans to find jobs and support for other vets, and to be there for our military families. And we’re going to grow our Foreign Service, open consulates that have been shuttered and double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011 to renew our diplomacy. We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded. We need to use technology to connect people to service. We’ll expand USA Freedom Corps to create online networks where American can browse opportunities to volunteer. You’ll be able to search by category, time commitment and skill sets. You’ll be able to rate service opportunities, build service networks, and create your own service pages to track your hours and activities. This will empower more Americans to craft their own service agenda and make their own change from the bottom up. ... *shrug* after dallas shootings and other similar incidents, obama has indeed called for more oversight o' local cops, but is typical referencing expanding already existing programs to do so. regardless, while we don't support a national police force and we has observed how the Constitution precludes such on more than one occasion (http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/88911-the-us-election-2016-part-vi/page-5?hl=%2Bmissouri+%2Bgromnir+%2Bpolice&do=findComment&comment=1840673) the benefits o' a national police force is worth o' consideration and attempting to gets more national oversight has been considered by right and left and others for a long time. we can't have a genuine national police force, but local oversight has been lacking. the recent economic downturn were particular hard on the poor and poor communities. poor communities got their own police forces, so were predictable that such cities and counties would have shortfalls o' qualified personnel and resources. the American economy as a whole has rebounded, but that ain't the case for poor americans and their local governments. which again brings us back to what Gromnir keeps suggesting is the genuine problem. income inequality and the increasing hopelessness o' the have-nots has increased significantly in the past decade and is only getting worse. we get so distracted by police violence and imaginary appeals for national police when the actual problem is getting jobs and a future for those who have none. just as significant, the white, working low-mid middle class is feeling equal disenfranchised and there is more than a little evidence to support their fears. political extremism, a rarity in American politics, is predictable on the rise, 'cause a growing portion o' our population is fearful that the Government just don't give a damn 'bout them. sure, working class whites and low-income minorities see complete different causes for their predicament, but the fear is the same. distractions. is far too many distractions. get people jobs and future and hope. is a huge undertaking. is a generational undertaking. even so, many other o' the current complaints o' folks on the left and right will disappear if we address the genuine problem. but we is so easily distracted. HA! Good Fun!
  4. keep in mind that Gromnir ain't saying that hurl's rates will be raised. haven't seen your policy and we don't deal with geico. nevertheless, am knowing that many people is shocked to discover that in spite o' the fact they were not at fault in an accident, their rates got raised. boat sinks 'cause o bad weather and your rate to insure future boat increases. house gets robbed and home insurance rates increase. *shrug* insurance is actual requiring that the damage be caused by an accident. intentional damage were, in the past, not covered. and accidents frequent is not having a person to be at fault. act o' god or at least factors beyond any single person's control. as for magical thinking, correlation is more than enough for insurance. seriously, we is talking business, not philosophy. you been in three accidents past, and police reports insist that you were not at fault in any. doesn't matter. insurer would be jack arse stoopid to not increase rates. insurer don't care 'bout ultimate cause. your route home has poor traffic light algorithms? dunno. don't matter. past accidents is a good predictor o' future accidents. period. HA! Good Fun! ps keep in mind that a police report measure o' fault is hardly actual scientific evidence. but the insurer don't care regardless. statistically, if you is a greater risk, it makes good business sense to raise rates. sure, is complete possible that the safest and most conscientious driver in the world could be in 10 accidents in one year, none o' which were her fault. the likelihood o' her actual having an 11th accident might, when all factors is considered, might be exceeding small. the insurer doesn't care. the insurer doesn't have time or resources to care.
  5. The guy did have a license, at least. My rates should not increase because it is clear he was at fault. That was also why it was important that I called the Highway Patrol and got them to write it up. The police report is my evidence that I am not liable, and the other driver did not dispute that. fault is not required to raise rates. is not a punishment. statistically, if you have been in an accident, you are more likely to be in future accidents. rates is raised 'cause you is a greater risk to insure. good luck. HA! Good Fun!
  6. main thing is that hurl walks away ok from a car accident. that being said, before applauding geico, we wonder how much they increase hurl's insurance rate. poor guy won't know for months and then Bam! thinks he got away from accident unscathed? nope. HA! Good Fun!
  7. uhm, how could he hide his "tax returns" from the irs? that makes no sense. and again, the fact that clinton also has done wrong hardly makes trump's failure to make his tax returns available to the public any less noisome. he is a businessman with no background in politics. trump gots a history o' shady business deals and bankrupt business ventures. refusal to make tax returns public is particular worrisome given lack o' political background from which to gauge future political success. we will note again that those wanting to expose clinton insofar as the emails took the wrong tack. comey woulda' been a willing ally if the goal were to expose clinton as a bumbling incompetent. unsophisticated. naive. etc. comey were investigating whether or not the evidence were sufficient for a successful criminal prosecution. comey tried to stress just how irresponsible were clinton's actions, and how her lack o' sophistication were almost unique in his experience, but he refused to find criminal liability that a reasonable prosecutor would be willing to pursue. what a waste. clinton coulda' been made to appear willful ignorant and dangerously unsuited for the kinda responsibility a President would needs be shouldering. clinton shoulda' been exposed as ignorant and dangerous. waste. wod keeps seeming to forget that Gromnir is not actual a clinton supporter. we have criticized her for years. point out her flaws and shortcomings is preaching to the choir... save for where wod goes all frothing maniac. criticize clinton regarding foreign policy and history o' mendacity and the fact that she is a traditional beltway politician who is most concerned with her own enrichment and aggrandizement. amen brother! hallelujah! is quixotic, at best, to argue with somebody who already agrees, but you go for it if it makes you feel better. regardless, no matter how many emails were deleted by clinton, it don't change at all the fact that trump has not made his tax returns public as has every Presidential candidate since nixon. a businessman running for President based in large part on his business acumen won't release tax returns? wod is like some kinda truculent 5-year old insofar as tax returns is concerned. mom: now billy, did you break the vase in the family room? billy: no. mom: billy, i saw you knock over the vase. billy: well, wendy is the one who got bubblegum in rug. mom: *sigh* HA! Good Fun!
  8. we would be mighty amused if trump suggested such a thing. HA! Good Fun! ps tax returns. still no tax returns? Probably already has. If not, CNN will quote him as such. I can't quite get my mind around why the press feel the need to doctor his statements when the statements he makes are usually worse than what they concoct. yeah, trump does get ill-treatment from msnbc and cnn and elsewhere... though not near as much as trump claims. misleading headlines n' such from cnn and msnbc is common. such media behavior is strange given just how frequent trump actual says something complete idiotic or offensive. is even more strange 'cause it should be obvious at this point that those ardent trump supporters is not gonna be the least bit discouraged by being presented with yet another example o' trump ridiculousness. HA! Good Fun! ps http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/06/15/new-evidence-donald-trump-didn-t-pay-taxes.html so, tax returns?
  9. we would be mighty amused if trump suggested such a thing. HA! Good Fun! ps tax returns. still no tax returns?
  10. obama has been reluctant to involve himself in race issues during his presidency. dunno if this sudden shift is a good or bad thing, but it is out-of-character. as an aside, we got a friend who has a ranch in northern california. mainly cattle. got a big trump support sign on his property. the rancher is educated and intelligent. he is also black, which is extreme rare for ranchers/farmers in this part o' the country. we typical avoid politics discussions with friends, but we just had to ask him 'bout his trump advocacy. water rights. we haven't educated our self 'bout water rights and the presidential candidates, but our friend and his wife insists that clinton as President would be bad for their ranch 'cause o' stance on water rights. am suspecting that obama's exhortation will moderate annoy our friend and his lovely wife, (she is not a good cook, but better than our rancher friend in and around the kitchen, and she does make excellent pie. good pie crust is an underappreciated art. at best we is 80% on successful pie crust) but am doubting it causes them to change their vote. HA! Good Fun!
  11. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS699US699&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=stupid+gwyneth+paltrow could be here all day. what would she do if she weren't an actress? world's most self-absorbed pilates instructor? is "personal shopper" still a thing? HA! Good Fun!
  12. needs the appropriate logo or perhaps HA! Good Fun!
  13. am actual more pessimistic than amentep. am certain that folks would complain. the thing is, nowadays, people complain 'bout everything. is impossible for us to keep straight what constitutes microaggressions and what is requiring trigger warnings... and when does trigger warnings become microaggressions. the upcoming disney film with dwayne johnson, moana, has already enraged many people. dwayne's character apparent promotes the offensive stereotype that men o' the pacific islands is all morbid obese. the children's halloween costume for maui also is offensive as the skin tone for the bodysuit is darker than the typical caucasian american-- a whole generation o' disney fans will resurrect the practice o' the brown-face caricature. etc. make brunhilde portrayed by an african-american actress and folks is enraged. make brunhilde portrayed by a caucasian actress and folks would no doubt be enraged. inevitable rage is sadly becoming little more than white noise. when folks gots a serious concern, we hardly even hear such nowadays as is drowned out by the seeming hurricane o' inanity. has gotten to the point where we see rage as inevitable. is tough to be genuine angered over anything when so many is enraged by everything. HA! Good Fun!
  14. memory is a funny thing. we spent a few weeks in soviet russia in a time before the wall came tumbling down. all kinda amazing and unique experiences. even so, when we thinks o' our trip to moscow, one o' the first images that springs to mind is the subways. say what you will 'bout soviet era russia (and there is much we can say,) but the subways were amazing clean and almost surreal given our experience with chicago L and nyc subways. ubiquitous chandeliers. am not certain if the chandeliers is still part o' the decor in moscow subway stations, but seeing crystal chandeliers in subway stations is an image that has not dimmed in the least over the intervening decades. so utter beyond our experience, and kinda pretty too. am hoping there is still big crystal chandeliers in the moscow subway stations. HA! Good Fun!
  15. agreed... although thor is actual the title that we would most wanna see done as a musical. we would pay much for a bonus blu-ray short o' my helm and magic hammer. HA! Good Fun!
  16. Westerns were the dominant genre for US movies for about 30 years. I doubt Superheroes are going anywhere anytime soon (particularly given that they dovetail into the existing and perennially popular "action movie" summer film and, like Westerns, can combine with other genres to create different approaches to the material). if you didn't like westerns and musicals, your options for movie viewing were significantly reduced until... mid 60s? next step in movie evolution: combine musicals and superhero films. truth-to-tell, modern superhero films is already deep influenced by westerns. sure, we don't have many modern movies set in the american west with heroes riding horseback and firing civil war era six shooters at easily identifiable bad guys. nevertheless, is not difficult to see influences o' the western on modern superhero films. westerns never actually disappeared, but perhaps the musical is primed for a returns. james spader's ultron doing his best jud fry solo o' "lonely room"? no? HA! Good Fun!
  17. wasn't her eye that caught us so much as her nose. piri-piri, coriander, bay leaf and saffron exposed our fledgling culinary self-educations. HA! Good Fun!
  18. What's Portuguese flavor? piri-piri, coriander and bay leaf? to a lesser degree, saffron and parsley is also common. we don't typical think o' ribs as a common portuguese dish, save for braised short ribs. we do almost no portuguese cooking. we got a housekeeper who is portuguese and she makes us food, but she refuses to teach us portuguese cooking. she looked so terribly sad and disappointed the one time she caught us experimenting that we hasn't dared try since. HA! Good Fun!
  19. trying to do school as an adult who gots family and career responsibilities is funless. and as much as we enjoyed our post high school education, am admitting there were few times in our life more stressful than midterms and finals and thesis defense. HA! Good Fun!

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10834358 "The mortality during the 12-year follow-up was 12.9% for the powerlifters compared to 3.1% in the control population. By 1993 eight of 62 powerlifters and 34 of 1094 population controls had died, thus the risk of death among the powerlifters was 4.6 times higher (95% CI 2.04-10.45; p = 0.0002). The causes of premature death among the powerlifters were suicide (3), acute myocardial infarction (3), hepatic coma (1) and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (1). These findings add to the growing amount of evidence of an association between anabolic steroid abuse and premature death, and support the view that measures to decrease AAS misuse among both competitive and amateur athletes are justified." anecdotal evidence is swell and all, but... 23. She really ought to take those shoulder pads back to the 80's, their natural habitat. Is it just me that thinks about the poor workman who comes along to his nice freshly concreted square and beholds the mass destruction this alien has wrought on it, for no other reason than to look cool? I bet she never comes back and lends a hand or pays for the damages. Blasted Extra Terresestrials taking our capes! no capes. HA! Good Fun!
  24. much terrible pain has been caused in the name o' religion, but am personal tending to think that religion ain't the problem. human fear and greed would be same w/o religion as an inspiration for horror. and inspiration works both ways, no? our perspective is skewed. as with most first year university students, we became skeptical o' religion and governments and the nutrition labels on packaged food. skeptical o' everything. nietzsche had a profound influence 'pon us, though as with so many young would be nihilists, we ignored how friedrich lamented the death o' God. the thing is, as we has gotten older, we has seen so much terrible pain. have watched too many die slow, painful and agonizing. have watched many more need live slow, agonizing and painful. ... our opinion 'bout religion took a decided shift when we began to actual spend time volunteering at homeless shelters and soup kitchens rather than just debating 'bout such stuff at the University pub. in abstract we could (can) look at religion as a crutch for the weak and sneer. see the realities and we thank God so many has a crutch to help them endure sufferings. am still ambivalent 'bout religion, but am gonna guarantee it is much harder dismiss religion as a shackle or burden after you sit at bedside of a stage 4 cancer patient or terminal aids victim and the dying woman reads from psalms and takes comfort from her unshakable faith in the divine. thank God. thus ends our once-per-year post bout religion... 'cause as we said, we is ambivalent, and such is off-topic regardless. HA! Good Fun!
  25. Anyone who seriously thinks 9/11 was a conspiracy theory is either anti-Western and bitter Uninformed and ignorant Dillusiuonal or suffering from dementia Someone who just believes stupid conspiracy theories At this point in history anyone who doesn't believe in conspiracy theories is just misinformed. With all the information that has been leaked and all the awful things that government do you still trust them? I can understand skepticism and asking for evidence but just denying them on the merits of being a conspiracy theory... just go back to the MSM and vote for Hillary you chump. i honestly dont believe in any conspiracy theories.....well none I can think of? CS are just excuses where people become lazy and aren't interested in the truth. Why what CS should I consider? conspiracy theories depend on an absence of proof. therefore, while it can be amusing to debate conspiracy theories, it is, by definition, irrational to believe 'em. ... is particular strange given that conspiracy theorists tend to see themselves as skeptics. lack o' faith in media sources and governments is understandable and even laudable. however, is perplexing when the skeptics turn to crackpots, lunatics and rt for guidance. most perplexing. HA! Good Fun!
