  1. That's because the Neverwinter Nights toolset is easy enough to learn. Anytime someone asks me what game they should mod to get some experience my response is always Neverwinter or New Vegas (or FO3 / Elders scroll 3-5). I hear a ton of professionals recommending people learn Unreal right off the bat. While I can't argue with the logic behind it, there's a major flaw with starting with something this ambitious. It's extremely difficult to stay motivated if you're not able to see any tangible results for a long duration of time. This is especially true if you've never made or modded a game before. For some people, being able to jump into an editor and see some sort of results within a few hours is enough to keep them motivated in a project. If you're new to game development and are not keen on the idea of modding to start, then something like RPG maker or unity is probably your best bet. I never liked the idea of using the Unreal Engine right off the bat, main reason being it uses a proprietary scripting language not to mention most developers ask for experience with C/C++ (though from what I've talked with professional programmers the most popular language isn't always the best [Not to mention managing memory might be a bit too much for beginners]). For people who want to get into 3D game development I think it would be better for them to use Unity just because of the wide range of scripting languages it supports.
  2. ^ So many good mods have come out from Neverwinter Nights.
  3. You've raised an excellent question but no this isn't the same thing. There are times where intervention from other countries is necessary in Africa even if Africa doesn't want it. This is about human rights and the dignity of certain groups that become the victims of discrimination. You can't expect foreign aid and then treat your citizens in a way that is abhorrent to those countries giving the aid. That's just not the way it works Exactly, what good will come out from singling out a group? Nothing it only solidifies the interests of those that are against it. Which in the end will only breed more hatred over the years and more violence inflicted upon the group.
  4. I'd like to think its just a case of humans being stubborn and resistant to change. Though the more likely cause is the certain prospect that the mentality of Homosexuality is so alien to them they fear it instead of just accepting it. I can't recount the origin point of homosexuality the earliest point of history I know where it was documented was in several Asian countries roughly in the 1500's AD though I have no doubt in my mind that their are probably accounts even earlier than that. The bottom line is the majority of sexuality's are Heterosexual (so difference from the majority = fear) it also doesn't help that most religions prohibit sexual activity for pleasure but instead only advocate it for procreation. Since two males and two females can't bear any children this way without the aid of the opposite gender (surrogate mothers, sperm donations). I can only assume their thoughts that not only are Homosexuals engage in sex for pleasure there is no procreation as well, they would consider that ideology as being blasphemous. That's at least my 2 cents on the question. Regarding the AU manifesto I think it might be just a case of a combination of people being afraid to defend and there are those that are against that specific group is the reason why the legality of the matter is overlooked. (I now remember why I despise politics...)
  5. Good points as well, and definitely getting a nice size group of people on your side is one of those powers I was talking about previously it is especially effective if you can put enough stress on these companies that it would drastically effect the economy of the country. It would at the very least get some attention from those who legislated those laws. Also apparently as I was just typing this, the World Bank has postponed a $90 million dollar loan to Uganda's healthcare system; stating the bank itself opposes discrimination. This also follows suit from Norway and Denmark not sending any donations to Uganda due to the passing of this law. Now we get to the next topic Law vs. Morally Right By Society. This is a tough one since Laws are in place to keep the populous in check otherwise there would be nothing but chaos (I like to think of it as a Mad Max kind of dystopian world). Both matters are highly subjective depending on the time period is in and what the majority of the populous thinks on the issue. The problem with this is majority of Africa does not approve of Homosexuality so that will be the general consensus for that society group in which it can take a very long time to change that mindset. What better way to get people to stop doing something they don't like? Make a law that threatens that persons freedom, this also goes in hand with the onlookers that know about it but say nothing.
  6. I'm glad you mentioned "won't be true of everyone" Myself and many others like me won't forget what is happening in Uganda until this inhuman law is rescinded. There are already several activist campaigns in South Africa being discussed that will be implemented. Also some European countries have cut aid. The question you need to ask yourself about all these issues around social justice is " how strongly do you personally feel about something" and " are you just going to comment on the Internet or get more involved" I choose the latter Unfortunately believing in something isn't enough, the reality of it is you need to have some kind of power that can contest against these social injustices you also have to bear in mind of the enemies you'll make along the way since your trying to 'change' something.
  7. I usually prefer talking with a sword and being able to take punishment on my first playthrough (though then again most of the time I do solo playthroughs).
  8. ^Seems like we can discuss this for the rest of our lives if we wanted to.
  9. You do have a good point... I'm not saying this should be implemented into PoE (I respect Josh Sawyers decision as a developer) I was merely saying this is how romance should be done in games. This is a forum on the discussion of the element of romance. Though like Hiro pointed out this should probably be out of the PoE forums.
  10. While I agree yes that is the way BG2 did it where once you were prompted to a conversation depending on what you say would decide how much one of your companions would divulge information to you to a point where if you made too many wrong choices your companion would remain silent throughout the rest of your journey. I also agree as well their should be two paths to romance: 1. Lovers Relationship 2. Plutonic Relationship I'm hoping conversation wise it can be triggered either by the player themself or its triggered by your companion. I'm already liking the idea of being able to have the companions your not using within your stronghold doing their own quests.
  11. But, and this is important for the sound team, what does the fox say? I have nothing to say at the moment...
  12. Secondly all Romance options are optional, I'll say that again...optional. Why do people care so much about something that wouldn't impact there game if they didn't want to partake in it but it does make a difference to fans of this type of component of an RPG? I see this as a little selfish. Exactly! All it does is gives the player more options whats wrong with that? (Personally me I could take it or leave it) If I could only account one of the romances that left an impression on me it was the surprising romance between a player and Aribeth's spirit in NWN: HotUD. Just the whole after the Mephisopheles thing... Where Aribeth stayed by the hero's side until his/her death it just makes you think how it feels on Aribeths side to not be able to share the ordeal of living that the hero still has to go through (pain, sickness, slowly dying).
  13. You can redeem your digital copy either through GOG or Steam. As long as you can provide Steam a valid CD Product Key it can add the game to your library. I myself have done this by buying some digital copies of games through Amazon and redeemed the product on Steam through the menu; Games -> Active a Product on Steam.
  14. What do 'you' see in the distance?

  15. No you explained yourself quite well, it sounded to me the characters you were describing were Chaotic Good where they only see things in Black and White there is no Grey type of person in their viewpoint. If someone commits an evil deed there is no salvation for them they must be destroyed. Though this leads to the viewpoint of the neutral populous where some people will be, "Yay! We don't need scum like this in our city" or "This guy might of taken things a bit too far" Lets take an example from Baldurs Gate 2, in Athkatla's Temple District there is a woman accusing of any man she sees going pass her to have been the father of her child and that she needs money to support her (is clearly extorting her child for money) how would you respond?
  16. A talking sword??? I mean what if you realized along the way you were Jesse in Breaking Bad with a person like Walter White? That would be fascinating, especially if that character was an excellent liar and you were unable to see what was really going on until much farther in the game... Now that would be a particularly compelling companion to travel with because the surprise of it would create a very memorable experience. An interesting idea though I think there was a character like that in KotOR 2, Atton Rand?
  17. At least we can say NWN1 did (NWN2 felt kind of a step down in the animation department since they removed some of them rather then adding more), definitely loved the animation where if your duel wielding two weapons and the opponent does one form of a miss, one of the reaction animations is seeing the blades (take long swords for example) blocking the enemies weapon and having sparks fly.
  18. I can only think of this image, Regarding to the topic at hand I agree with there needs to be a change from the usual A B C dialog I mean you can even see it on DA2 screenshot I love you (Good) I'm Hungry (Neutral) Get Out of Here (Evil?) Ever since I played the SMT games (Nocturne in particular), when I go about making choices in RPGs I pick the choice that would most benefit me during that situation. Versus traditional alignment I now look at it like this: Law: Given Protection (City Guards, etc.) and a good reputation (staying within the bounds of the moral codes everyone must follow) however; the price you pay is freedom. Chaos: No Protection and given a generally bad reputation by the major populous (Reputation is now with those who are in the same mindset as you); have complete freedom. I'll take for example one of the choices you have to make in the Witcher 2 where you are given the choice of traveling with either Person A or Person B. When I had to make the choice between the two I thought of the backgrounds of each character. Person A: Works for the men who imprisoned me, owe him for a favor, finds honor in duty, if I stay with him I'll be restricted by choice since he only has one goal in mind Person B: Cutthroat, can't necessarily trust him yet, finds honor by aiding his people, if I go with him I have the possibility of leaving his band to pursue my own needs I picked Person B for the chance at being free to try and pursue what I believed Geralt would want.
  19. An interesting choice, but one I can agree with. Whenever I played one of the IE games if I had a party I would look to them more as comrades in arms then anything else.
