Umm... it was a bit intentional. It was written for the Boer war in South Africa in the 1890's, not Sudan. It may have been abused decades later, but I thought it illustrated the mindset of Victorian England quite well (that and Cricket).

I am not normally the kind of guy who succumb to "What If" thinking, yet walking through the empty places of this game, I couldn't help to think: What if this game had had 12 more months of development time?...

Hadn't really thought about it that way. Maybe we just have too many partymembers, making choices irrelevant in general? I think we agree more than we disagree. As matter of personal taste, I like the independent npc model better. I want to issue instructions to my followers and have them act according to their personality, not spiritually possess them. As for release date, late September in Europe and early October in the States. I wonder where that leaves us living down under?

why? 'cause of balance concerns. in d&d you plays a single character. you play a character with crappy int or terrible chr and you is gonna pay the price... though wotc did a terrible job balancing usefulness of attributes in any case. still, with a competent dm, there is gonna be some disadvantage to having low int or chr in pnp d&d. ... My experience with dm's and p&p gaming is sadly lacking (i.e. non-existing) Still, I like my question though If I didn't have the kind of control over my party, it would feel less "silly" not to be able appoint a party spokesman/representative. Either let me (the player, not the protagonist) lead the party or let me lead the main character. For all it's shortcomings in the execution, I liked the Fallout 2 concept of party control. As the acknowledged leader, you issue some (limited) instructions for your team members, but they still do their own thing. It felt natural for me to be able to do talking there, as my "avatar" was more or less my only way of interacting with the world.

Yeah, he is not known as "Ribsmasher" for nothing! As for the rest, definitely agree. I usually think of my party as a swiss army knife. Different tools for different purposes. If I want to be a diplomat, I will take conversational skills and surround myself with bullies and if I want to make grunting noises and beat people up, I'll drag somebody with smooth talking skills along (whether they want to or not)

That would be a job for the AI programmers... If Fallouts Ian can shoot you in the back when equipped with a burst weapon, why couldn't a game AI decide, that the paladin you appointed to negotiate with the 50 strong orc horde blocking the pass, is telling the chieftain that his mother was a elf and his father smelt of elderberries? They have the skills, but their personalities decide how they apply it. You, being within earshot get to hear what is being said If you don't trust your party members to speak on your behalf, well, then it's your own character skill that decides how the dialogue runs. You could even have it as an AI setting on party members, that within the scope of their personality, they will chirp in or stay silent, be polite or abusive etc.

That would make sense in a game where you had little or no direct control over party members. If i can remote control my smart ass wizards spell casting, using that same wizards skills and attributes in all other situations, why not also when communicating?

Although one rank in Shadowdancer or a few in Assassin removes this problem. Hide in Plain SIght is awesome. One thing that iritates me with that "teleport pc to front of party and initiate dialogue" feature is, that it makes it pointless having npcs with any conversational skills. What good is it having a Paladin with charisma and diplomacy or a bard that can bluff and sweet talk his way out of any situation if they are doing the old oyster trick :sad: Not that this is unique for NWN2, as a couple of previous games in recent years have made a mockery of skills in a similar way.

But they are soo cute when they are young, sitting there, all puppy eyed and growling... I wonder if they (Team Gizka) some day would put up a task list on their progress page, not like the old lightsabers, but simply a "to-do" list to save browsing through threads in their forum so see how the real progress is going (not the bug count, but the implementation stuff).

I liked Fell Wood. And the wandering village too. It was one of the more atypical areas in the game, as was the time loop thing, in Dragons Eye. It was a nice break from the hack and slash that preceeded it, although those *&^%$ little teleporting, invisible lightning bugs were a pain at the end.

The best thing you could ever do. My parents bought a new computer with Vista and in my opinion it sucks. I'll stick with WinXP Pro. I don't know if it is an improvement over Vista or not, but Windows Vienna (current code name) is approx. two years away. I think that Vista is to the NT family what ME was to the 95 family, i.e. best forgotten

There is one thing I don't understand not being added... or rather I don't understand the reasoning for not adding it. It's the part with Atris wearing her black robes, which appears to be left out because it would be illogical for her to conveniently have sith robes lying around. Yet, in the same time and place she is hanging around in a room filled to the roof with sith holocrons. If her agents have raided enough places for sith artifacts, they might just coincidentally have brought some robes. heck, they could have used the robes as a sack to carry the holocrons in when aquiring them

... Of all the criticism, this most confounds me. I'm not trying to convince you to buy the game. I am hoping that you have some other reason than the one you state here to make the decision. He does have a point though. NWN2 was a long game with fun parts and less fun parts. Those sequences were (for me at least) the most unfun parts of the game, and if anything could be cut out of my game with a knife, those would be it. Not only tedious and boring, but also came across as "artificial". Not to mention they ruined part of the purpose of the tracking skill :sad: If I could just press a fast forward button in those areas (or if a modder could to a hack that made them skippable), I might be inclined to play NWN2 again

No idea. No surprise really. I can't even roleplay female characters in crpgs, ending up starting over as male again when I attempted it. I think I managed BG2 once and Kotor1&2 once each, pretending to be a female. My brain is way too simple.
