  1. Gorth sends carrier pigeon to nearest shadow druid council with message, telling them that tree burning is taking place... >_
  2. You are welcome. I can't say I have seen them before. The only one I recognised (from elsewhere) from top of my head was cgsociety. I think most of the people who put questions here are "geeks" as opposed to artists. Questions about programming, writing and game design seems to be more prevalent than questions about art. Call it a hunch, but I would guess that most artists don't start out wanting to be game artists, it just happens naturally that they get contracts/commissions doing art, whether it be level art, texturing, modelling or concept art as part of what they do naturally, i.e. either doing or wanting to do art for a living. It would be pretentious of me to speak on behalf of the gaming industry though, as it is not how I make my living
  3. I think you can find quite a bit in this section of the forum too. The trick is to select "Show All" and not just show last 30 days of activity. Out of 19 pages, quite a few threads are about the gaming industry and how-to's (including tips from developers). Anyway, good luck with your career pursuits
  4. I am not holding my breath either. I would be lying, if I said I didn't feel envy though. I would prefer to play the mod sooner rather than later.
  5. Well, looks like they are inviting a few lucky bastards to have some fun before others. http://forums.team-gizka.org/viewtopic.php?t=2670 Like a movie screener
  6. Good to hear. Just keep working on that "staying in one piece" thing
  7. Europa Unviersalis III. It's been a long time since I last had to resort to manual reading In between that, PS:T (just reached the drowned nations) and Kotor II (Korriban left to go)
  8. I don't know if it belongs in this thread, but add Jagged Alliance 3 to my list. Strategy First would probably like to put one on the shelves, but if they ever get around to do it?
  9. Not really. I have the 51 track version that came with my Icewind Dale - The Ultimate Collection (which despite it's name didn't have Trials of the Luremaster on CD *Grrr!!!*) I wonder what version you found there
  10. Attack of the Mutant Camels II (Revenge of the Mutant Camels doesn't count) Sheeps in Space II Hover Bovver II Doomdarks Revenge II Master of Orion IV (like, forgetting that III ever existed) Tombraider Anniversary II (like, one that stays true to the original Tombraider, not the crap that was released) Syndicate wars II Defender of the Crown II SDI II (Cinemaware version) Colonial Conquest II War in Russia II A different Fallout III Temple of Apshai II Forbidden Forest IV Baldurs Gate III Icewind Dale III Planescape Torment II Carriers at War II Crusade in Europe II Decision in the Desert II Elite IV ... Blergh! way way too many to list in one go
  11. Well, I always thought the british soldiers to be of far superior quality to their high command. The reason why I saw as a fitting comparison was the fighting of elusive insurgents in a large country and then this sense of invincibility that the english empire seemed to have at the end of that century. No adversity too big and no enemy too numerous to be overcome by a handful of men. My Africaans speaking friends and colleagues of course have different points of view of those events
  12. Umm... it was a bit intentional. It was written for the Boer war in South Africa in the 1890's, not Sudan. It may have been abused decades later, but I thought it illustrated the mindset of Victorian England quite well (that and Cricket).
  13. Vitai Lampada THERE'S a breathless hush in the Close to-night - Ten to make and the match to win - A bumping pitch and a blinding light, An hour to play and the last man in. And it's not for the sake of a ribboned coat, Or the selfish hope of a season's fame, But his Captain's hand on his shoulder smote "Play up! play up! and play the game!" The sand of the desert is sodden red, - Red with the wreck of a square that broke; - The Gatling's jammed and the colonel dead, And the regiment blind with dust and smoke. The river of death has brimmed his banks, And England's far, and Honour a name, But the voice of schoolboy rallies the ranks, "Play up! play up! and play the game!" This is the word that year by year While in her place the School is set Every one of her sons must hear, And none that hears it dare forget. This they all with a joyful mind Bear through life like a torch in flame, And falling fling to the host behind - "Play up! play up! and play the game!" -- Sir Henry Newbolt (from a large collection of WWI poetry)
  14. I am not normally the kind of guy who succumb to "What If" thinking, yet walking through the empty places of this game, I couldn't help to think: What if this game had had 12 more months of development time?...
  15. Hadn't really thought about it that way. Maybe we just have too many partymembers, making choices irrelevant in general? I think we agree more than we disagree. As matter of personal taste, I like the independent npc model better. I want to issue instructions to my followers and have them act according to their personality, not spiritually possess them. As for release date, late September in Europe and early October in the States. I wonder where that leaves us living down under?
  16. why? 'cause of balance concerns. in d&d you plays a single character. you play a character with crappy int or terrible chr and you is gonna pay the price... though wotc did a terrible job balancing usefulness of attributes in any case. still, with a competent dm, there is gonna be some disadvantage to having low int or chr in pnp d&d. ... My experience with dm's and p&p gaming is sadly lacking (i.e. non-existing) Still, I like my question though If I didn't have the kind of control over my party, it would feel less "silly" not to be able appoint a party spokesman/representative. Either let me (the player, not the protagonist) lead the party or let me lead the main character. For all it's shortcomings in the execution, I liked the Fallout 2 concept of party control. As the acknowledged leader, you issue some (limited) instructions for your team members, but they still do their own thing. It felt natural for me to be able to do talking there, as my "avatar" was more or less my only way of interacting with the world.
  17. Yeah, he is not known as "Ribsmasher" for nothing! As for the rest, definitely agree. I usually think of my party as a swiss army knife. Different tools for different purposes. If I want to be a diplomat, I will take conversational skills and surround myself with bullies and if I want to make grunting noises and beat people up, I'll drag somebody with smooth talking skills along (whether they want to or not)
  18. That would be a job for the AI programmers... If Fallouts Ian can shoot you in the back when equipped with a burst weapon, why couldn't a game AI decide, that the paladin you appointed to negotiate with the 50 strong orc horde blocking the pass, is telling the chieftain that his mother was a elf and his father smelt of elderberries? They have the skills, but their personalities decide how they apply it. You, being within earshot get to hear what is being said If you don't trust your party members to speak on your behalf, well, then it's your own character skill that decides how the dialogue runs. You could even have it as an AI setting on party members, that within the scope of their personality, they will chirp in or stay silent, be polite or abusive etc.
  19. That would make sense in a game where you had little or no direct control over party members. If i can remote control my smart ass wizards spell casting, using that same wizards skills and attributes in all other situations, why not also when communicating?
  20. Although one rank in Shadowdancer or a few in Assassin removes this problem. Hide in Plain SIght is awesome. One thing that iritates me with that "teleport pc to front of party and initiate dialogue" feature is, that it makes it pointless having npcs with any conversational skills. What good is it having a Paladin with charisma and diplomacy or a bard that can bluff and sweet talk his way out of any situation if they are doing the old oyster trick  Not that this is unique for NWN2, as a couple of previous games in recent years have made a mockery of skills in a similar way.
  21. On the other hand, putting all McDonald employees in jail could be part of a popular health program. Burger King and Kentucky Fried Cholesterol watch out, you are next
  22. All the hotels seems have that one, and I steal a handful each and every time, but I can't seem to find it in any of the local grocery stores that carry it when I get to spend some days at home  Edit: Silly forum doesn't recognise
  23. I am very careful not to let any Wallabies fans find out where I live... :ninja10:
  24. Having lived some years in New Zealand, I can only say: Go The All Blacks!
