The Nature of RPGs
Pac-Man... the original crpg You have a protagonist, a labyrinth full of treasure, powerful loot that enables you to overcome otherwise unbeatable enemies, bonus treasures for the skilled players Oh yeah, and constantly respawning enemies, endless grind, questionable level layout, unbalanced encounters, more combat than any other ingame world interaction etc. Yes, must be a contemporary crpg

Yes, I have my own miniature giant space hamster. Surprised they didn't put a sticker that said "Boo" on that cage

So, finished most of the recruiting and loyalty missions. Jack hates me, despite me not having anything with "The Cheerleader" At least Tali is wearing a mask. If she turns out to be "ugly", I can always insist that she keeps the mask on Despite my assistants assurances of doing the fish feeding, I am slavishly feeding my fish after even short trips. Some of those blue little buggers costs a fortune. Enough for several lesser upgrades. They damn well better survive this trip. Still one empty slot in my npc list, I suspect that would be the "legion" guy I remember reading about. Otherwise, I think I am overstaffed at the moment. Not that I should complain about being spoiled (spoilt?) for choice, but I wonder why my ship feels like an episode of some day time television drama  This game needs more Krogan and less Emo Whoever came up with planet scanning must have been paid to make Mako missions look good by comparison. Is there such a thing as a life long ban for designers?!? The other minigames get boring after 2-3 times. Combat is Ok. Does its job, slowing down the pace of the game and filling up the space between story points. Hint, don't use the BFG (Cain900 or something) at close range. Playing a soldier, I do most of the killing, using either my large capacity assault gun or my sniper rifle, depending on how far away the enemy has gone into cover. People don't really play this game for the combat anyway, do they? I mentioned it before, I love the environments, especially places like Omega and the "Spaceship Graveyards". Kudos for making the side quests varied. Whether it had it or not, the game leaves the impression of high production values. Only a few (technical) bugs so far. I wish they would cut down the number of NPC's to half their current number and then use those resources on more locations, environments etc Off to find this IFF thing...

Heavy Rain
Crap... I'll attribute that one to statistical errors. Heven't played either one, nor the system shocks, dooms or GTA's (except the very first one). Most of the others are familiar to otherwise. Not having a PS3, it looks like I am not going to play Heavy Rain either. It does look interesting though

Neverwinter Nights 2. Case proven. Master of Orion 2, Baldurs Gate 2, X-Com 2, Jagged Alliance 2, Heroes of Might and Magic 2, Ultima II, Elite 2, Quake 2, Sim City 2, Star Control 2, Populous 2, Dune 2, System Shock 2, Lord of Midnight 2, Star Wars: Tie Fighter, Kick Off 2, Deus Ex 2, Silent Hill 2, Delta Force 2, Grand Theft Auto 2, Guitar Hero 2, Mortal Kombat 2, Europe Universalis II, Hearts of Iron II, Dungeon Master II, Speedball II, Xenon 2, Age of Empires II, Lotus Eesprit Turbo Challenge II, Eye of the Beholder II, Another World II, etc. The second game in a franchise isn't always a letdown

Start of old thread End of old thread Speaking of expansion packs and DLC, continuting where the old thread ended Haven't bought any DLC's, only used the ones the game "shipped" with. Wonder whether the expansion, The Awakening will be an awakening?

You have to feed them, else they die. If you to feed your fish for you. I did that, but apparantly too late. I wonder if I can buy new fish anywhere (bought two kinds of fish so far) Yeah, the galaxy can wait.

Mass Effect 2 Discussion
That was my first thoughts too when reading a summary of the first game All we need is huge living metal skeleton with a scythe towards the end then. Playing Mass Effect 2 for a couple of days now, recruited most team members minus 2 (Tali and an assassin). Done two loyalty missions (Zaeed and Miranda). I didn't believe my eyes when they introduced me to "The Cigarette Smoking Man" from the X-Files

Rangers are almost too powerful. Those animal companions are no whimps, giving you an additional party member (exaggerated for effect).

Mass Effect 2 Discussion
Miss out on save games you say? Last I checked, they had over 100 saves there. Thanks, but I think I am just going to play the "vanilla" game first. I went through the prologue and made my way to Omega. I like those dystopian style environments Edit: I don't suppose there is a place I can sell my less than visually pleasing Blood Dragon armour for something useful? I wouldn't be caught dead wearing that one...

Mass Effect 2 Discussion
Curiosity got the better of me, so I broke down and bought this game yesterday (despite being appalled by the quality of the first one). I am going to miss out on "previous saves" of course, but no biggie I suppose. Ye gods the interface is badly designed for PC's
