The one I was thinking about (from around 1850)... The Tricolore dates back to 1794 or thereabouts. So yeah, I suspect someone got a bit too sensitive and started looking for patterns where none are (or none are put intentionally in place). Edit: Doesn't mean that there couldn't be more behind the story than just a French company using French colours. Sometimes there is more behind a story than obvious click bait. I just remembered the yellow Russian flags from history books featuring paintings of battles from the Napoleonic wars. Iirc it kept the yellow colours with various combinations of white and black added to it up until 1917 after which it was mostly red. Disclaimer: Sometimes battle standards are different from national flags (e.g. the Confederate States of America)

I'm fairly sure the Tricolore predates the Russian flag by more than a century... I don't remember the details, but I think the Russian flag used to have a lot of yellow in when it was The Russian Empire, like yellow with a black Czarist/Imperial Eagle on it

Watched second episode of Tomo-chan is a girl... I think I'm getting seriously hooked on this series. Short version of the background, Tomo, a rather tom-boyish girl has a crush on her childhood friend. Problem is, for him, she's just another "bro", to be butt slapped and fist bumped. And no, that description in no way does justice to the characters, the story or the side cast.

Speaking of right wing governments… Netanyahu is on trial for corruption, nothing new there. Like his brother in spirit Trump, he wants to bend the rules and take direct control of the judiciary. No surprise there either. What is surprising is the Israeli airforce not agreeing. Reservists are going on “strike” to protest the changes. I guess losing the support of the IDF is not good for wannabe totalitarians? https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/3/6/israel-air-force-reservists-to-skip-training-in-netanyahu-protest

Started working with my airbrush, laying the foundation for my Alpha Legion army (in Horus Heresy, aka "WH30k") Sadly I didn't get the blue and green mix quite right, but I guess that is the price you pay for learning. My mix was too green, but the first batch isn't lost as they need several layers of this quite transparent paint (a mix Tamiya Clear Blue and Tamiya Clear Green on a metallic undercoat). I completely underestimated how dominant the green was, even if was only like a quarter of the paint mix. I'll use mostly blue for second and third coat, making them all shine blue traitors

Master of Orion II is one of those games that are "deterministic". If things don't go well and you reload. Unless you take different actions, outcome will be 100% identical. I.e. galactic events, Antaran/Space Dragon/Giant Amoebae etc. attacks will happen at the same times for the same planets. You need to make different decisions, to change what looks superficially like RNG events, but aren't Edit: On topic, got my shiny new Ziggurath. It's a big building with the entrance close to where the "Lich Vendor" is located in Drezen (the one selling stuff for undead practitioners). It's quite roomy on the inside. Having some great ideas for how to perform ritual virgin sacrifices in the basement

Well, that sort of makes the following statement true... Ukraine is full of Neo Nazis... it's just not full of Ukrainian Neo Nazis. Heck, anywhere in the world that has Sky News/Fox News (same thing) seems to have sizeable portions of either established Neo Nazis or wannabe Neo Nazis, as they appear to be the target of Murdoch's media empire. Anecdotal alright, but from personal experience such is the case down here (i.e. Murdoch's goons outlets riling up people to do violent protests against Covid measures, tax reforms, same sex marriage, alternatives to fossil energy, separation of church and state, better education, crack downs on corruption etc., all the things that threatens right wing governments)

The only time I *really* thought that, was many, many years ago in a game of Warhammer 40K Epic (the one with 6mm miniatures). One of my units was an Ork Pulsa Rokkit battery. It works by estimating the distance the enemy unit and then you declare how many dice you're going to roll. The sum of your dice is the distance the rokkits fly towards the enemy. I was very good at estimating distances by eye at the time (you were not allowed to measure the distance first). 24 inches, so i told my opponent I would load up the missiles with 7 dice worth of fuel. Should give some nice number not too far from 24. Until I rolled 6 1's and a 2... the entire missile salvo landed on top of my own army, annihilated a quarter of my army. My weird boyz panicked (failed their morale roll) and exploded with maximum range. By then three quarters of my army was no more. Two of the remaining units failed their morale rolls because of army losses and fled over the back line. My entire army effectively gone before my opponent even had his first turn We've often laughed at that incident since. So yes, I know dice can be fickle and sometimes it just feels like Gork and Mork are out ta get ya! I do miss my old greenskin army at times

So far, so good for my Lich wannabe. Getting a bit more used to focusing on the necromantic school of magic. Some spells are nice, some are useless (depending on the encounter) because they only affect living things. I wonder if demons counts as "living" for those spells??? Had a few fun encounters in Wintersun, but finished it up for now (except the mad elf, where i'm sure I need to do something else to unlock more dialogue options). The big angry tree and his spectre companion encounter took an interesting turn, as I could more than once dominate the spectre with Command Undead and it did a truck load of damage to the tree. Having the Spectre alone to deal with was considerably less challenging. Didn't see that one coming, did you, you silly tree? Also nice to see the dead reinforcement when you prepare the area with a spell I can't remember the name of now, that lets dead enemies stand up and fight on your side as undead. Brought a tear to my old Necromancer eyes. Nagash would be proud! My party still rely a lot on Sosiel though, for bless and prayer to boost the to hit rolls. Not helped by atrocious die rolling Four days away from finishing my ziggurat. Not sure what to do with all the skeletons and zombies I get after battles on the campaign map. I managed to kill Woljef after a fight was over. Enemies hate him. He gets balefully polymorphed, level drained etc. so at some point in a fight I cast a spell on him that gave him undead resistances... and vulnerabilities. Being almost dead, I had him use a potion of critical healing (after the fight). He might as well have consumed a bottle of cyanide for all the good it did him

Just left the doctors office 15 minutes ago. According to his test and the lab results from blood tests taken last week, I’m a perfectly healthy 30 year old… I’m beginning to think my birth certificate has a typo Just kidding, I’m in (surprisingly) good health for my age and I appreciate being so

If it's the Hans Christian Andersen version of The Little Mermaid, it was published in Fairy Tales Told for Children collection (1837). If the title is anything to go by, it was aimed at a younger audience.

Didn't Kim in North Korea do the same thing at some point? Friend or family "disappeared", including from old photos. Like an episode from Back to The Future.

Not so much has played, as I'm curious if anyone here has played Atomic Heart? A soviet version of Fallout in an alternative 1955 scifi. Looks wacky in a fun way. I saw it on steam under new releases, caught my attention and I watched a few more trailers and gameplay videos on Youtube. Sorely tempted. Just a bit pricey. Edit: The steam reviewers seems to agree on it's best to keep the original language with English subtitles as the dubbing is somewhat subpar (putting it nicely) Edit2: and watch out for the horny fridge that tries to rape you at the start

Australia is busy testing its own homegrown drone... although that one is more likely aimed at China than Russia to be honest... https://www.nationaldefensemagazine.org/articles/2023/2/27/australian-air-force-takes-drone-from-paper-to-flight-in-two-months Doesn't mean Ukraine can have a few toys donated to them https://www.skynews.com.au/world-news/australia-sends-33-million-in-military-drones-to-ukraine-and-imposes-new-sanctions-to-mark-one-year-since-putins-invasion/news-story/46a3d09c1d47e31e42fc2d7b46360896 "The $33 million drone package takes Australia’s total military support – which includes 90 Bushmaster vehicles, six M777 155mm lightweight towed howitzers and 28 M113AS4 Armoured Vehicles – to $510 million in helping Ukraine’s army and the millions of displaced residents."

Europeans often talk about the US as "being on the other side of the pond"... (ok, I'll shut up now ) Maybe I'm slightly paranoid, but this *relative* quietness from the front makes me feel uneasy. I know it sounds like a pun on an old German book and in some ways applies, where even a quiet day results in lots of death and misery without it being considered newsworthy anymore.
