Expanding my horizons a bit. Bought Metal Gear Solid V - The Phantom Pain on a Steam sale (together with the Europa Universalis IV DLC's that i didn't have yet). Played through the prologue and got to what I suppose is the actual start of the campaign. Good fun so far.

"he collected the gratitude of the smurfs, the love of his princess fair, and the friendship of his dead bear companion and put it all into his final swing"... I think the world lost a poet somewhere there Gromnir

None the less, those in favour of democracy and western ideals should be bouncing with joy that it's still alive and well. It was if anyhing democracy in action, even if you think the voters are all wrong. Edit to add: For those not living in the UK, a participation rate of 70% is quite a bit, given that the most populous parts of Britain were inundated in rain, thunder storms and flooded areas in many areas (it took me 4 hours to get home from work yesterday, infrastructure completely knocked out by lightning and flash floods).

SW: The Old Republic - Episode VIII (May RNG Be With You)
Gorth replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
...and yet another non-event for long time players, rehashing old content offering pets, cringe worthy titles and armor that long time players don't need. A shame about the chiss companion, but it's not an option. On the positive side, I got a bunch of EU IV dlc's on a sale on Steam. -
Not so unique actually, the Danes are perfectl well aware that EU is a lobbyist paradise and a democratic graveyard... and they don't use the Euro anyway, so I wouldn't be surprised if at least critical voices aren't being raise, even if it wont get as far as leaving too. Wanna bet, Putin is cackling with glee while rubbing his hands? Watch this space for news about French and German peacekeepers being prepared to be deployed overseas to stabilise neighbouring regions that may fall apart (yeah, just kidding with the last bit here)

That doesn't sound anything like the Disney version! I thought it was a pub

I know the Brits love singing "Britannia rule the waves...", but truth is, it's Denmark who does it these days. Show me a harbour where you can't find Maesrk ships and containers

I don't know if Rosbjerg was old enough to vote against the Maastricht treaty, but I fully share his view I may not be a US citizen, but I can fully relate to Guarddog's resentment against monstrously sized administrations and remmoving normal people completely from influence (EU is run by lobbyist, nothing more, nothing less). Good on the UK if they can kick the rotten to the core card house enough to make collapse.

Just wanted to say "thumbs up", because those Like buttons doesn't always do a post proper justification. That was an awesome series of images

The latest chapter wasn't too bad either. Darvannis was a nice setting and while it is just a big cauldron, it felt less cramped than previous mini-planetoids. Not quite as fun as Vette and Gault, but that was a funny pair. Torian was always the "Meh..." guy for me, only ever being my companion when trying to get the 1000 kills achievement (my bounty hunter alts using mostly Blizz, Mako or HK-51 depending on their role). Getting so bored with the existing ops now, that I'm looking more and more at other games though. Keeping up my subscription for now, but it sure as heck is not for the sake of the expansion. The episodic content is simply not strong enough to bridge the gap between releases (out of 12 alts that started, only 4 made it past anarchy in paradise which for me was an all time low and only 1 has made it all the way through so far, most being stuck at the star fortresses). Note, haven't tried the latest recruitment mission. Would have loved to finish SF's with my sith warrior and get my snowman, but I just can't be bothered with the monotony of that grind. -
Brave new world Google patents new sticky layer for cars. Ever wondered what it feels like being a bug on a windscreen? You may find out one day. Google is working on a system that instantly glues pedestrian to the cars that hit them. Just waiting for some Mad Max wannabe trying to score as many trophies as possible on the front of his car

That is the exact kind of scare mongering based on no facts whatsoever that makes people fed with politics... entirely anecdotal, but it sounds like a copy and paste of the scare campaign that the political and corporate establishment used to try to bully the Danes into voting yes to Maastricht in 1992 and guess what? They voted no and gave the politician, corporate leaders and most of all EU the middle finger. Either the EU would bend and drop trying to integrate Denmark further into the bureaucratic muck or Denmark would leave. several decades later, Denmark isn't a smoking crater in the ground where people live in tent camps, fed by scraps generously donated by our better off neighbours

I think Bowdaar just requires 10 victories, not necessarily in a single session. Just remember to 'check out' at the terminal before logging out, if you want credit for the won rounds. Made it to 7th round in my first attempt on a tank, but simply didn't have enough dps to beat little gut before the arena was completely trapped. Tried it on a dps alt and made it to 10th round. Need to work out how not to get killed when entire floor is electrified -

No, it doesn't seem like they give a **** anymore. Hate to admit it, but I got no shame. Joined the bandwagon of farming EV HM for 224 gear this week where it was the "highlighed" ops. It's such a joke. The easiest ops in the game, similar in difficulty to some "tactical" (i.e devoid of any tactics) flashpoint, dropping the top line gear. Didn't win much in the way of 224 gear, but the consolation prizes were no less than 3 220 relics, so not too bad after all. Still, it makes any gearing pointless when you get it all handed to you just like that, no skill or effort required -
I thought we were all Eldars alts? Otherwise I would say Raithe nailed it pretty well. Friendliness towards newcomers is found wanting at times, but It's very hard to avoid in an "old boys club" which Way Off Topic has turned into. Skepsis runs deep and is a hurdle that needs to be overcome, so sometimes ego's will be bruised, spears broken, shields shattered... and sometimes people decide that a a few scars and sore spots is trivial compared to mingling and participating in a new community. It shouldn't be so, but it's hard to avoid without holding a community in an iron grip of restrictions and supervision.

Well, my Nordic ancestors would qualify as a civilation then. Besides growing a bit of crop and writing runs on stuff, they had a secondary economy in raiding, raping and pillaging They weren't ruled by clergy men though, but by kings and strength of arms. Gods weren't someone you "worshipped", but someone you beseeched for help or cursed depending on your situation. @Numbers: Social Darwinism would be a good fit for what you describe I think? I.e. civilisations and societies change, evolve and become extinct when you lose your edge.
-
This is all based on the assumption that the civilisation has a religious foundation... wouldn't it be possible to happen the other way around, a civilisation developes or adapts religion to suit its values? Not quite a chicken and egg question, but it's the only comparison i can think of from top of my head. I.e. which one came first. I can't think of any civilisations that spawned in isolation, nor religions. More like both evolved and morphed over time (and both seems to have existed since people decided to live in the vicinity of each other).

FIFA got nothing on the EU when it comes to being rotten to the core. It is in serious need of a complete restructuring and in particular trimming of the number of parliamentarians, institutions, committees, areas of jurisdiction, you name it. -- Proud Maastricht treaty "No!" voter....

Ungrateful louts. They were even reclassified as humans in what, 1967? (before that, they were considered part of the flora and fauna of Australia, no kidding)

I'm no Tolkien scholar, but wasn't it the sort of the other way around, he was a linguist looking for something use his skills on and came up with settings where he could use those languages?
