Factions comparison
Heijoushin replied to Nail's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I'm really torn here, because each of the factions seem interesting. - The Principi sound like a lot of fun, considering they do silly things like leaving their victims in their underwear - I wasn't really into the RDC, but after seeing their designs, I'm starting to change my mind. They look pretty awesome. - The VTC's philosophy of "profit first" is appealing. Also, I'm guessing that route will give you lots of interaction with Pallengina. - I guess I find the Huana the least appealing, although I assume they're the standard route if you want to be the "good guy". (You know, be a White Knight and help the natives throw off the yolk of foreign invadors.) -
Level Cap...
Heijoushin replied to Aegir1973man's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Level cap in the base game is 12. Extended to 14 in White March part 1. Extended to 16 in White March part 2. And will be extended further in Deadfire! PS GIYF -
As someone who has lived in Asia for 7 years, I find the idea that eastern people are all philosophical and Zen (as hippies believed in the 70s) to be very amusing. The average eastern guy/gal is just as screwed up as the average western one. Still, that kind of Eastern worship brought us lots of video games and movies with katanas and kung fu monks, so who's complaining? Anyways, if there's an abusive person in your life, the best thing you can do is to leave and cut all ties. In other words, flight. I would say that's sensible. But as you say, that's not always possible. In which case, the main options remaining are to passively submit or to fight back. None of it is particularly moral, just different survival strategies.
-
Well now, like with many other morale issues, there’s always a discrepancy between what’s best for the individual, and what’s best for the group as a whole. If you’re thinking about what’s best for an individual, I don’t think you can ever justify violence (outside of self-defense). I mean, possible results include death or life-long injury, right? Definitely to be avoided at all costs. On the other hand, if you’re thinking about what’s best for the group, you can always justify violence in the sense that it will make things better long-term (by overthrowing a tyrant or whatever). This is the logic that wars are built on after all.

Hello Andriushka. Although it makes me sad to say this, there is no IWD3. If you're going to appeal to developers, I'm thinking that Beamdog would be a better bet. That being said, I'm sure the people on this forum would love to discuss a potential IWD3, so why not post it anyway?

Wow, I don’t usually comment on these internet rage stories, but this one is a doozy. Maybe I sympathize because I travel overseas a lot. I’m no legal expert, so couldn’t tell you the nitty-gritty of boarding etc. (Gromnir seems to be doing fine playing Devils advocate over there so I’ll leave him to it) but in terms of common sense / what a rational guy on the street would do, there was a major screw-up here. I don’t know if the whole airline deserves to go down, but whoever was in charge of that fiasco should be fired. As I understand, after no one took their 800$ offer (whether you think this is a good offer or not is debatable) they randomly selected someone to kick off the plane. What is this, the Hunger Games? Who thought that was a good idea? Couldn’t the employees just drive down to their next destination (it was a domestic flight, yes?) instead of holding up the entire flight? Maybe the security guys were just doing their job, but what genius pointed them at the guy and said “Remove that man by whatever means necessary! We need his seat!” Ever heard of... the customer comes first?

(Since no one else is posting these anymore...) Fresh off the press! Get it while its hot! Fig Update 29! RDC gets cool pseudo-Chinese outfits, cannons, and generally looks down on people. VTC endorsed by all five Grand Ducs of Valian Republic, and exists to make money for shareholders. Eastern Admiral or Italian Banker? The choice is yours! https://www.fig.co/campaigns/deadfire/updates/315 Comments/Opinions/Rants please

Sir, I beg to differ. For me, White March's open area locations felt too chock full of stuff. You could hardly walk a few paces without falling over some ancient wizard's dead apprentice, a band of slavers, a bounty or an ambushed caravan. An empty city area is bad, but an occasional empty wilderness area is reasonable.

Wow, the sheer amount of cynicism in this thread You know, I kind of appreciate that America is willing to counterattack the bad guys. It makes me think that if Kim Jong Un starts launching missiles at Japan, the US will do something about it.

Quite so, quite so. They don't really work like that. I think the problem that everyone has with might is that people don't instinctively link it to magical power. Sure, if they read the explanations, they would know better, but being intuitive is one of the signs of a good system, yes? You didn't claim mastery over melee weapons, I was just taking the mickey out of you guys

*sigh* When hitting things, you're trying to exercise as little strength as humanly possible as to not over-extend yourself. That's why very sharp things eventually became much more widespread than clubby things (and eventually, strength was taken out of the equation more or less completely). You not only keep dodging the point, but also replied to 1/3 of the argument I was making in the post you quoted and like 1/10th of the argument I was making in the first place. Besides... Fufufu, is it wise to argue with a Ninja Master on this point? It's true, a good sword or knife is sharp enough that you don't need much strength to kill someone. However, in a sword fight with all other factors (skills, experience, speed etc) being equal, I'd put my money on the guy with the bigger muscles. Ah, there's no activity quite as nerdy as armchair philosophizing about combat

This is not a bad idea. One perk of being nobility should be having someone to do your busy work for you (like running around to every merchant in every city). On the other hand, it would have to be handled tastefully, since Caed Nua already feels too much like a convenient cell phone app. Some people complain about having too much money and nothing to spend it on. I regularly upgraded my equipment, so I didn't have that problem. The trick is to convince players to stop being gold hoarding packrats, but I'm not sure how. We already have equipment divisions in the form of fine/superior etc. Perhaps there should be a more distinct difference between those levels? (in terms of effect and price tags)

Pure click-bait. Nah, pure click bait would have been "10 retarded features Obsidian puts in their games. Number 3 will blow your mind!" But yeah, when I saw the word "retarded", I knew this would be an epic rant I get where OP is coming from. The first time you encounter phantoms in GV, you've only got 3 party members, and probably aren't very good yet, so that area probably caused a decent amount of frustration among players. Perhaps they should have had the beta in Gilded Vale instead of Dyrford. I think Dyrford was chosen so that the beta testers could play with higher level characters, but still, if somewhere is going to be super well tested and balanced, the first village might have been a better choice.

End game save

Devil of Caroc endings.
Heijoushin replied to Hopkins650's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Hmmm... I guess that in the case of the skeleton, consciousness is lost, but the Soul can't return to the cycle. Pretty morbid. Actually, the more you get into it, the messier animancy becomes. For example, why can the Devil and the skeletons actually move? I mean, they have joints, but they don't have muscles. Does the Soul move the "body" through sheer force of will? In that case, could the Steward of Head Warden move? Maybe we'll get some answers when they introduce the talking weapon in Deadfire. -
Non Priest/Pally question.
Heijoushin replied to Whumpster's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Nope. In fact, Pally's in PoE aren't based on God-worship either. They fight for their ideals, not the Gods. But... -
Devil of Caroc endings.
Heijoushin replied to Hopkins650's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Indeed. Other examples like the Steward of Caed Nua seem to imply that the soul lingers far longer than the body. Actually, I wouldn't want to hang around as a statue either. Sometimes I don't think these people think things through very thoroughly... -
Hello friend. The devs generally don't answer questions on this forum. You'll have to wait for the next Q&A if you want to ask them something. If Ydwin doesn't get funded, she's still in the game as a sidekick. I think it would be weird to make DLC "upgrading" her to a companion, but I guess anything is possible. Likewise with the sea monsters and the fishing.

What's this? People love the idea of a Zen Monk who kicks ass while spouting deep platitudes. I'd love to be a monk! I just... like meat too much... and women... and video games... but apart from that, the monk lifestyle is for me! Okay, I admit, I didn't really roll them too often in PoE. But Zahua was an awesome companion. 10/10 for whoever wrote that guy.

Gentlemen, gentlemen! Attack the idea, not the poster. The stat system in PoE is rather controversial and has been quite thoroughly discussed around here. I think it has its problems, but I see where the designers were coming from when they made it. PoE’s stat system is designed to prevent "dump" stats. Now, granted, real min-max’ers will, by definition, always make dump stats, but generally speaking, there’s nothing that you can completely drop without some negative effects. PoE’s stat system is also designed to make any character viable. An intelligent barbarian is viable in PoE, whereas it wouldn’t be in DnD. And if you’re a beginner who badly assigned his stats, you’re less screwed than you would be in DnD. In Icewind Dale, every single fighter I ever made was Str 18, dex 18, con 18. In PoE, it varies a bit depending on the role I want for them. "Might" is a little silly. It’s supposed to represent both physical strength and magical potency, but admittedly, in the dialogues it always comes off as physical strength, so your wizard always has the option to head-butt people. But I think this is a problem with the writing, not the system itself. The companions are not perfectly optimized. For some people, this is a pretty big deal. I like to think of it as a touch of realism, as people aren’t perfectly optimized for their jobs in real life

Okay, yes, a melee ranger is very viable. Was just saying that archery is one of the points which make them unique as a class, so don't take that away. It's like saying "I want to see more offensive priest spells, so lets move away from healing and support". *Waits for Boeroer to tell him that offensive priests are awesome* The druid/ranger combo does indeed sound fun, just for the lols of going into combat as two animals.
