  1. DCotE's story is actually on par with the source material; characters and situations are similar to ones we find in The Shadow Over Innsmouth. That can be applied to almost every game in existence, ie, the feeling of being there. DCotE isn't particularly special about that, although it's an interesting game all the same. I disagree with it's "powerful storytelling", nonetheless. An example is the loss of sanity when encountering abnormal situations in the gameworld - the loss of control by Jack going mental is clearly about the characters as much as the books are, and not something that affects the player as a person (momentarily lapse of control notwithstanding, of course).
  2. Dracula X: Rondo of Blood. That's the second encounter with Death in the game, in a derelict pirate/phantom ship. I haven't been able to take a picture of it's second form - a more traditional skeleton in a ragged cowl and using a scythe, as opposed to the mysterious figure you're seeing - which is pretty hard if you're underequipped with ammo for the subweapon. If you've played the lousy attempt of a port on the SNES - Castlevania: Dracula X/Vampire's Kiss - it's the same Death you confront atop the Clock Tower level. Only in Rondo, it's quite more deadly.
  3. Still plowing through Rondo of Blood. It's amazing how much artwork and sound Symphony of the Night recycled from it. Goes to show how much of a good reception a game can get when it predates on obscure Japanese games that Westerners have no idea about, like MGS did with MG2:SS. The game often jumps between 'tough as nails' to 'easy as drunk jailbait' but regardless, it's an excellent title. Just whipped Death to, er, death after twenty tries or something. Hardest boss yet. And one of the best chapters in the series, hands down.
  4. Street Fighter IV, for nostalgic reasons. And that's about it, I think. Stuff like Dragon Age and Fallout 3 are pretty peripheral for me at this point.
  5. True, but can we really expect them to produce anything other - or better - than the Diablo/Starcraft/Warcraft trinity? They seem to have nailed that design pretty well, so it's understandable they're sticking to it. As for Diablo 3... Not sure if it'll really grab me by the nuts and do a piledriver, but I guess it's fine and all. Would prefer a God of War approach instead, though.
  6. Does this mean characters won't repeat their speech over and over if you exit a conversation and engage in one again?
  7. But in the response, you quoted the line I wrote. In a general context, it came off as something else, ie, assuming I was talking of the game as if it would be nothing more than a shootfest. It's an image focused on what is presumed to be "cool", because it breaks the game down into recognizable aspects that 12 year old fetishists can **** to: menacing beasts, big guns, background explosion. Machismo at its finest. You can find hundreds of similar production images for other games that do the exact same thing instead of focusing on other important aspects of the game. Whether it's representative of the game in its final shape is up for debate, but I am only talking of what the image conveys for that particular scene - not the game.
  8. Sorry I missed the turn, been busy. I'm still not sure how I got that far, since soccer really isn't my forte, let alone predictions for it. In any case... Germany [3] - Spain [2]
  9. I also enjoyed their Airplane! movie.
  10. Talking about the feel of an image =/= talking about the feel of a game. jumping to conclusions LOLZ
  11. That screams vapid, generic action game where the characters' pathos are reduced to carrying big guns while an explosion is going off in the background. Kinda like Tomb Raider porn but with orcs.
  12. I think it's a combination of those, more than likely. Dalton wasn't really the issue, since he's a good actor, but his 007 movies suffered from having a truer Bond in a story that didn't care much for it. Craig and Dalton are somewhat close in portrayal, but the edge, as you say, likely comes down to that particular kairos of acting and film making. Which in turn would make the whole conversation a bit pointless, since it's the producers' who usually have a say in the final product.
  13. It's been that long, hun? My sincerest congrats to Obsidian. You'll always have a place in my gaming heart for maintaining the design traditions of Black Isle, as well as being an excellent team and group of people. The darnest thing, going through a small crisis of faith recently, is that when I just realized how long it's been and how long both the core team members when through, and I went through the last 5 years, I got misty eyed. Here's to another emotionally charged and ignored post on the intraweb, I guess.
  14. What kind of medication are you on? Surely for it to be even close to an adventure game it should have some kind of interaction that isn't reflex based and I honestly can't remember something that fits the bill. The concept of genres is a wonderful, wonderful bit of lunacy. Buy Mass Effect? No. Not now, at least. My computer is too old for all that sci-fi lesbo glitz.
  15. The way the competition turned into, at this point I wouldn't be surprised if the final would pit Zombie Jesus against Ninja Hitler.
  16. Reducing resource management doesn't preclude the absence of resource management itself. The thing with unlimited ammo isn't so much about not being given resources to manage but to focus on the importance of said resources. If we assume a game where every downed enemy leaves a suply of ammunition for our weapons, then there's really no difference between limited and unlimited ammo, as both allow the player to continuously replenish their stock, the former at such a rate that ammunition will nearly always be in excess. If we forget genres for a moment or rather, what we assume each must offer, you'll rarely see anyone making the same complaint against shmups. Why? You still manage resources, from power-ups to player lives, and because that part of the design is focused on giving the player a different set of rules and objectives, such as managing to engage the enemy while avoiding his attacks. It doesn't gain anything by limiting the player's resources against hordes of enemies. Conceptually, there's virtually no loss of player choices or resources there. Why should the same happen with AP?
  17. Castlevania Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse Freaking Dracula X Rondo of Blood after years of trying to get this baby to run Virtua Cop 1 and 2
  18. I wasn't intent on claiming that the actors I mentioned were closer or further from Flemming's intention, rather of what we've come to expect from the character as we've seen in the movies. I was talking about how SirPetrakus's notion that James Bond was like a shallow Inspector Gadget on steroids. And so far, I think Craig has less to do with that idea.
  19. Portugal [2] v Germany [1] Croatia [1] v Turkey [2] Netherlands [1] v Russia [2] Spain [2] v Italy [1]
  20. Thanks It's-a-me, Moroder!
  21. What? I can count at least a dozen situations where he didn't had a gun and went rogue. The whole Roger Moore/Timothy Dalton/Pierce Brosnan trinity was a blight on the character and shouldn't be considered as the only way to portray the character. In Casino Royale, he's about as Bourne as a Bond gets.
  22. I can get behind that. I bet you'd like to get behind that, you dirty monkey you.
  23. Human League: -Don't You Want Me -Electric Dreams (this was actually a project between the HL lead and Giorgio Mororder (sp?)) -Human
  24. Actually, if you re-read that sentence, you can very much turn the scene into a sexual one. And it will be better than DMC4 So the demo's good, hun? Might give it a try later. Are you using the keyboard or a gamepad?
  25. I'm having fun. With a fighting game. O 'ell! BTW, how does this game compare with others of the genre? I'm thinking Street Fighter, Samurai Showdown, and Fatal Fury games. Since I'm not too keen on the genre - though Guilty Gear is trying to change that, the rat bastard - is it better for me to do some venturing into its roots or am I playing the best of the genre? Also, Street Fighter IV looks like it will rock. Um, I was also trying to play Hexplore, but I can't make it work on my PC.
