  1. I liked how in BG wizard spells took a while to cast, were vulnerable to being interrupted while doing so but once cast were noticeable powerful. If possible, increase power of wizard spells in PoE and give them longer casting animations (which are cool by themselves, I don't like how all casting animations in VODs last for 1 second or less).
  2. The disappointment was mostly based on the fact that DA2 wasn't exactly like DA:O. DA:O was a CRPG, DA2 was an ARPG. People who got over it enjoyed the game (like I did) and people who couldn't get over it whined. And whined. And whined. And some are still whining even now. DA2 had nothing to do with aRPGs. It was a just a bad game that was created in too short a time. Levels were reused all the time, and challenge in combat consisted in sendingspawning wave after wave of enemies who abused that your best abilities were on cooldown. It didn't help that you could no longer gather loot for your companions and customize them that way. The camera not allowing tactical view anymore didn't help as well. I don't remember much about story anymore except I liked that you had your house where you did missions from. That probably means it didn't suck and it wasn't awesome as I remember both of those.
  3. The only time there was a pathfinding hiccup was when BB Fighter wanted to move forward but the MC was standing in the middle of a tight path only one person could go through at a time so BB Fighter kind of paced back and forth. I wouldn't really call that a significant pathfinding issue. The only improvement to be had there is some sort of auto response of "The path is blocked" or something being played vocally and tossed in the combat log and maybe making BB Fighter just stand there instead. What I saw on the stream and I also seen it on VOD is just before the Ogre, the BB Wizard goes berserk. What you mentioned is a serious pathfinding mistake because it was only character being controlled at the time. Players should not be required to do such stupid manual tasks just to let one guy pass outside of combat. The Fighter should have pushed his ally to the side to pass. Pushing enemies aside should not be allowed.
  4. Yes I'm sure that's the issue a lot of folks have with the concept the trouble is I think it's an unrealistic expectation - first of all every Tom **** and Gwendolyn that played these games have different ideas of what worked and what didn't and secondly just because a mechanic worked back then in the Infinity Engine doesn't mean it's your only option today. Really? I can't use the short version of the name Richard? In that case you find out the aspects that most people liked and keep those instead of guessing them or just ignoring them because you think you know better. Thinking you know better failed for D&D 4e and made Wizards to farm information from their players to get best from all previous editions and create 5e. J.E. Sawyer should have done same.
  5. If you want awesome D&D combat, Knight of the Chalice is even better. If you can get over the simple graphics that game has some of the most challenging and fun D&D turn based combat. The last (optional) fight is one of the most fun fights in any game.
  6. Non kill XP if implemented well can be awesome. The way I seen it done in beta is not awesome or close to it. The best experience with NWN games I had in a NWN2 persistent server where killing gave you 2-5 xp but doing quests gave you what you needed to level. Quests ranged from simple ones to very complex and long ones. The amount of XP depended on quest complexity. The game had a lot of quests and not many were kill x creatures type. It was also pretty non linear and you could do any quest you could survive. Avoiding combat was recommended but it didn't make the game less fun as completing quests while avoiding patrols also took skill. Also learning to use right spells and magic items to accomplish missions was fun.
  7. D:OS made basic arrows infinite and special arrows rare but with each giving great effect. It would be cool to have something similar in PoE.
  8. No but we expect they don't touch things that worked in IE games and improve the rest. Starcraft 2 didn't do this, they decided to change things that worked well in SC1. Many old fans hated it and SC2 after its opening fame got beaten in esports by other games.
  9. Pardon me?Lvl 5-7 combat in Baldurs gate 1 / 2: Fighters: Miss Miss CRIT DEATH ONE HIT KILL miss miss. Mage: Casting cloud spell X and abusing the ai OR casting overpowered melf´s minor meteorids OR casting elemental damage spells and hoping for the next resting opportunity. Rogue: Trying 5x to get into stealth mode, missing one of three sneak attacks OR doing lethal ONE HIT KILLS and then micro manage the hell out of them OR shortbow for minor damage. WoW. So much fluff and flow. Take off the nostalgia goggles please! Don't lie. Fighters don't miss or score critical hit often. Misses are attack animations that are not representing real attacks. With mages you abuse sleep and horror like you did from the start. The off screen AoE abuse is problem of AI only. Rogues are kill or do nothing classes but invaluable outside combat and for scouting. Also can be easily dual or multiclassed to be more direct combat competitive. And I hope to see PoE combat in later levels to be as awesome as in BG2. I am just playing BG2EE and my lvl 11 party has awesome fights vs Thayan mages and their high level fighter guards. The whole fight is adjusting to what is happening at the moment (including my non-casters). Lack of melee engagement actually lets me use my melee as I need them on round by round basis. To outsider it would look like mess and random but I know exactly what each of my 6 characters is doing and what each enemy is doing. I hope PoE will be able to replicate this at higher levels near the end with access to many many different abilities.
  10. Because they said new pathfinding will come in first beta update
  11. Pax build still seemed to have pathfinding issues so it is not ready for backer beta release.
  12. This interview with Feargus says they are releasing PoE in winter 2014 with no delays and they will tell us the exact date in next few weeks.
  13. they didn't exclude kiting, just didn't provide means to safely disengage for all characters like NWN2 had with Tumble skill.I still hope we get something. Maybe a general talent that lets you safely disengage once per encounter.
  14. I don't mind the current system if it is explained ingame. I want a logical explanation of how you have access to magical stash.
  15. My hope is if Might stays as it is that at least they rename it to Power. Might has a different meaning to both old and new gamers due to how almost any other game does it.
  16. I do not want to answer this poll as I don't want either option but more similar to D:OS where you get xp in smaller quantities for all kind of stuff.
  17. If they don't plan to include different arrow types having ammo is not really needed.
  18. But these extra fights for xp unless time sensitive are just going to turn into kill x amount of enemy mmo type quests that everyone returns later to do. Which is probably not bad as it is always cool to have a reason to return to previous cleared areas. IMO best solution would be to create miniquests around all such encounters. Killing wolves lets you find remains of a person someone in town knows and will reward you for finding with the difference being you don't get this quest in advance from this person but only as result of exploring (as the missing person was long gone and they stopped looking for him). It will also let you grab the remains and run from wolves or somehow sneak around them to get the remains.
  19. While we are nitpicking don't call them Elder but Prime, Alpha, Dire or anything more fitting :D
  20. Well the game is more like Fallout 1/2 than Wasteland so Fallout 1/2 fans are more than welcome. I also played Bg1 before Fallout 1 but now I am super excited for both these games and have supported both (and Grim Dawn that you mentioned here and there).
  21. Which kind of circus do you visit?! D:Maybe the BG2 one?
  22. After release of WL2 I hope to see a impression video or suggestion video from you They said they would have post release support and are open to suggestions.
  23. Not to mention the most famous ranger - Drizzt - has a pet panther and is melee.
  24. Exploration in BG1 meant running into groups of Named NPCs or monsters and having cool fights vs them. Or running into a cave/crypt and finding some loot guarded by something. Common enemies like wolves and such were boring to fight outside quests. Only questless "wolf" encounter was the pack of different wolves led by vampire wolves and it was one of the most memorable low level encounters in the game as you would get destroyed if you didn't know how to handle it. And the xp reward was nice.
  25. So Jon Snow should not be a melee fighter because he has a Dire Wolf? !I think melee with a companion is more cool than a ranged character. In p&p d&d rangers would use their pet to give them flanking bonuses in melee. Or a wolf companion that trips a target and gives melee only bonuses to hit.
