  1. As long as we don't lose companions between area transitions and our companions don't lose body parts for months, it will be OK :D
  2. Check out the youtube video and watch in parts where they run fast if there is a message on screen that says Fast Mode. I didn't always notice it right away and I know it exists. I can imagine how confusing it was for people totally new to watching PoE. If you still think everyone moves too fast when Fast Mode was not ON come back here and tell us.
  3. Then lets group them in ways that are not fake. And remove the middle man of fake attributes just for the sake of being similar to IE games.
  4. At least you didn't use your agenda to on purpose misinterpret this
  5. See, that's your problem right there, archangel. You constantly confuse your personal opinions with a "neutral point of view" or "general consensus among backers" or whatever. I don't really have an agenda, either, other than I'd really like a game I'd really like to play. I do have opinions, of course, which include a general dislike of DnD mechanics and an immense affection for much of its content, but I don't make any secret about that -- and I'm not about to change or hide those opinions just to please you TYVM. Only personal opinion is yours. I cba to c/p SRD that beats all your points. Go read it yourself.
  6. When you try hard enough you can make anything look bad. I will not bother replying until you quit your agenda first and present stuff in more neutral manner.
  7. Well I am opposite to you Nipsen. I care for simulation approach to attributes first and balance second. I was perfectly happy with how IWD2 and NWN games did attributes (more streamlined and easier to understand for general player population than BG1/2 and IWD1). If they are completely gamist they as well need not exist. Might is stupid stat, it is totally gamist and does not let me define physical strenght of my character. They would be better to just have Damage and Healing stats instead of Might. Same goes for the rest. If they are not going to have simulation approach then lets not lie to each other and just have character sheet full of direct gameplay bonuses.
  8. I engage in lot of combat in Bg1 with my solo ironman characters. And I level very very fast as a result. You just have to know where to fight at what level. And it is much faster and more efficient time investment than most quests. And you get good loot in BG1 from many characters you kill (or you get it from just talking - Heart of Golem :D). And I also go after encounters that I know give good XP but are not really needed just for fun of killing them with a solo character. But I would not bother if there was not a big XP reward as well.
  9. I don't know about D&D 5e, but good sales might mean a Pathfinder game in PoE engine.
  10. But either way you're limited by the XP that's in the game (discounting respawning/grinding). In P:E I'd expect you'd be looking for sidequests with non-violent solutions or solutions that avoid the toughest combat early on. Still the same thing -- you want max XP for min danger. I honestly can't see what difference it makes how the XP is awarded, as long as you know what you need to do to get it. I suspect a bigger hurdle will be the XP equation -- you'll only get, what, 30% more XP soloing than playing with a full party, rather than six times as much. You won't be all that much ahead, level-wise. (Although of course the AD&D geometric level progression canceled out a good deal of that big pile of extra XP, especially later on.) Yes, in PoE Ironman players will be looking for easy to do quests with little danger. The problem is if those don't exist in sufficient numbers. Dedicated players could level to max level in BG1 doing easy fights and then go do all quests at max level. BG1 also has its share of powerful items and one use potions and scrolls that make it all easier. Successful solo Ironman run will depend on both things (easy XP and powerful tools for right situations).
  11. I don't think that would be very helpful unless you gave them the source code you lost me a bit there... the source code is not part of the final game? Not in the form that is readable just like that. They would need to decompile everything. It also lacks all original assets used to make the game. Same reason why BGEE games didn't turn out better, they didn't have access to any of original assets.
  12. What does the way XP is awarded have to do with solo/challenge difficulty? The only way combat XP could affect that if there were respawning monsters so you could grind to level cap, which sounds like a pretty cheesy way of going about it. Everything. Like all hardcore game runs you don't face challenges at their full party intended levels but once you are overleveled and "safe". In BG games you get more levels through killing stuff than doing quests and it lets you level up so you can survive quests and move the main story along. Part of Hardcore/Ironman runs is knowing how to get most XP for least danger and when to go do which area. And when you lack a bit of XP for that needed level you don't go do another quest but go kill a few more easy enemies. In the end it is not important how you got to the goal, only that you did.
  13. BG was relatively easy to solo as a wizard. Get the Ring of Wizardry and MM everything to death at lower levels. Rely on summons at higher levels. Ironman still sounds like a challenge though. Which class are you playing? Tried Werewolf Druid but died at lvl 8 from the super ogre challenge in Firewine ruins :D Then soloed with Swashbuckler. Becomes easy once you get your traps and stealth skills high. Then with Berserker. This is even easier. Becomes boring as soon as you get good weapons (in my case 2 +2 daggers).
  14. On the other hand, people don't care to provide feedback but just leave it in OE hands to do their best.
  15. I said this in another thread; there were over 8,000 Beta keys handed out to backers, of those, there seem to be 30 to 40 backers who are extremely unhappy with the beta due to issues of gameplay & mechanics (as opposed to general playability). While I think there are many of us who are unhappy with one or more aspects of the game's design (myself included), I feel the overall sense is that PoE is shaping up to be a potentially great game. I think it's easy to lose perspective in the echo chamber that the Beta forum seems to have become. This would be true only if all 8000 beta key holders posted their thoughts on forums. But they don't. More likely only around 10% of them post it like it is normal for all game forums.
  16. That was your plan, though, wasn't it? Well I still have not given up on it. And if it is only half decent, only few places will hear it from me. I don't have an agenda. Also, I will give OE until expansion to show us their true quality before going all (BG) fan rage :D
  17. There is no doubt PoE will earn good money. Probably more than D:OS is the game is half decent. The only problem they might be facing if part of backers bad mouth it all over the internet if it is only half decent.
  18. I don't think that would be very helpful unless you gave them the source code
  19. I am already solo ironmaning Bg1ee so I might try this but only if the game will turn out to be as fun which I doubt. Also no combat xp kind of kills these triple crown chances of success.
  20. At this point it is about money only. If Brian Fargo was behind this project he would probably invest some of his money so they could keep developing it longer :D
  21. Isn't that neighbouring area also anarchist? They steal your stuff and you need to get it back. They didn't show it bad as a whole but that is the whole point of the system. It is supposed to self regulate and kick out bad apples that are always acting alone. Unlike current system where these bad apples can use the system to corrupt others.
  22. Well if they have a PAX version ready they can release that one for backers.
  23. Think he was talking about the OP, not himself.
  24. Kreia is probably Obsidian's most interesting NPC out of their games I played. If PoE will not have a character of similar quality I will be very sad.
