Well in the flashback where the Jedi strike team are ready to fight Revan, he's wielding a single bladed red saber, so I always assumed that was the kind of saber he used.

I go single-bladed everytime. Just go with whatever you think looks coolest and stick with it, this game is too easy and doesn't require godlike stats to beat.
