I suppose uttering insults and death threats here would be considered topic derailment so... congrats. -

I'm in love with me, so I suppose getting K2 is as nice a way as any other to prove my love to myself. -
KOTOR II: Gone Gold & Chronicles Updates
213374U replied to Biggs's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It's no use, Hades. You can't crash this one party, no matter how hard you try. Our time will come... -
Feeling important, are we?
-
From a story standpoint, yes. The mandalorians in the unknown world should have been pretty experienced, I recall one of them being labeled 'mandalorian commander'. From a gameplay standpoint, it would be ridiculous and absolutely unbalancing to make Bendak, Yuthura, and those mandalorians as powerful as they should have been story-wise. On the other hand, a simple band of thugs (the trandoshans in Yavin) were a tough nut to crack compared to other NPCs, and they would have been able to mop the floor with master Uthar, Bandy, and Yuthura without breaking a sweat. But since you encountered them after beating all the planets, their stats had to be scaled accordingly.

Yeah, a double bladed lightsaber against a wooden staff. Impressive, most impressive. I don't remember the Jedi actually fighting Exar Kun. As soon as he saw his plans crumbling, he crawled back to his lab to seek some way of saving his sorry ass. Such was the love the author had grown for his character, that he couldn't even give him a worthy end. You say everything in the EU is approved by Lucas, well, I doubt he would have allowed some 3rd line author to kill Chewie just to sell more books. Obviously somebody didn't do their job. I would be delighted to see those parts of the EU stomped by 100% canon movies. Then again, all your assumptions that the Jedi of the prequels aren't worth jack, are based on the uber powerful lamers from the EU. I for one will wait until that is mentioned in the movies. Fortunately, GL will not turn SW into DBZ or Matrix Revolutions.
-
Then why hasn't he? No, there are limits as to how lame can even Lucas be.
-
Yeah. Did I mention how cheesy are the EU novels? I can't stand them. I'll go by the movies if it's all the same to you. Right. How would those poor authors sell a single comic or novel if they didn't make 'uber munchkin' characters like those. Where SW meets DBZ. OMG... how could Lucas let his creation be raped in such a way. Oh of course, I forgot. Money.
-
Come now. You couldn't even manipulate the mind of that worthless soldier at the door of the academy and you expect to be able to use a mind trick on someone strong in the Force? Obi-Wan says: 'the Force influences greatly the weak-minded' or whatever.
-
Again, if the story had been a little better crafted, I might agree with you. I think the Force is neither dark or light, it depends on how it's used. But at any rate, his ability to use the light side was not diminished, it was utterly blocked, see for yourself:
-
Yes but, what greater good was that? Exar couldn't know he would become a Sith lord and therefore that wasn't part of the equation at the time. If he had had some glimpse of his causing millions of deaths, I would agree with you, but that was not the case. He was arrogant alright, but his fear was caused by not being able to feel the light side, by the possibility of turning into oblivion. Suddenly the 'There is no death, there is only the Force' line was no longer true. That and nothing else is what I consider lame about Exar's downfall. The author seemed to think that blocking someone from part of the Force or from the Force altogether was like I just can't accept that.
-
Nope. Quinlan Vos fell was close to falling to the dark side because of his fear, but he still did have a choice. On the other hand, they didn't 'let Exar fall to the dark side', they forced him down that path. The failure of one's will to resist their own passions is what makes all the dark side so good and credible story-wise, at least to me. The light side is about doing the right things even if there was an easier way, ultimately it was about improving oneself. If you take the 'choice' element from the story, what's left is not the dark side, it's some lame excuse for it. How come using the force to pull the lightsaber to you so you can save your life is dark? If Exar had used some dark side ability, or had been quick to anger, I might be persuaded to buy it, but he always tried to turn to the light first. Nah, the author was probably suffering a serious hangover when he devised Exar's downfall and couldn't think of any better way to justify it.

That's hard to believe considering Anakin was 'the most gifted Jedi I've ever seen'. He wasn't the chosen one for nothing, you know. Any other 'tool' could have been dealt with by Mace Windu or some other master. But that's not the point. What I mean is that decisions can't be made thinking that choosing life over death is going to destroy the universe. That's plain dumb.
-
That's like saying that Hitler should have let himself be killed in WW1 because that would have prevented WW2. In retrospect, it's true. In retrospect too, if Obi-Wan had let Maul cut him down, Anakin would have never been trained, and therefore, the Jedi would have not been wiped out. There was no way for Exar to know what awaited him. At that point, and as far as he could think, his death was meaningless. It's no wonder Exar was afraid, the only thing that stood between him and certain death was the dark side. Jedi don't succumb to fear because they have the Force to reassure themselves. How do you think Obi-Wan would react if facing Vader he suddenly found he was cut off from the light side? He let himself be killed because he knew he would become 'more powerful than you can imagine'. Exar didn't choose to embrace the evil or give in to his passions. He just chose to live, because there would be no gain from his death. That's what anyone would have done in those circumstances.
-
I agree, he could have chosen to die. Sacrifices are not unheard of in the SW universe. But there's a difference between sacrifice and meaningless death. Exar's death would have served no purpose at all, so there was no reason for him to die.

I Dont Like The Darker Theme
213374U replied to XboxSithLord's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Uh, there's still a Republic out there, you know. It's just they're on the losing side of the war. And you are the last known Jedi. But since you can recruit Kreia, the handmaiden, the disciple perhaps, and we know of Atris, it's obvious you're not the last Jedi. It was much worse in ESB if you ask me, with Luke and his clueless sis being the last hope of the galaxy, and the Alliance taking a serious beating. -
Ok. But Ulic had an excuse to fall to the dark side even without that lame venom. He was consumed by rage of the death of his master, and he had been led to believe the light was not powerful enough to deal with the Krath. On the other hand, Exar was cut off from the light side of the Force, not once, but twice, compelling him to turn to the dark to save his life. Where's the dark in that? I was led to believe that darksiders embraced the dark willingly, and precisely that's what made them evil. Exar had no choice, thus being not evil, but a sorry ass victim. I don't think he was that powerful, anyway. He managed to beat his old master, which was using a wooden staff, and he needed a lightstaff to do that. Impressive, no doubt. The only Jedi Knight he ever faced in lightsaber combat was Ulic, which he couldn't best. That and the fact that his dark side powers were in great measure granted by his Sith amulets don't speak very highly of Exar's abilities. So much for the greatest Sith lord ever...

What is your least favorite character?
213374U replied to Darth Nole's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yeah, never thought I'd see a Borg Sith Lord. Oh well, at least he's not a jawless moron in a red jumpsuit... Bounty hunting usually involves killing. It's not very efficient to stun all of your target's bodyguards while you try to capture their boss. You see, they may wake up and do what the're payed for. Not to mention it's safer to transport a corpse than a live prisoner. The only thing that prevents a bounty hunter from killing their targets everytime is that usually, the bounty is higher if the prisoner is alive. A bounty hunter that only killed as a last resort would not be very good at her job. The whole idea holds no water. -
To each his own. I think he's little more than a thug with delusions of grandeur, and the way he was forced to accept the dark side was lame. Ulic Qel-Droma was a much deeper and far more credible character, even despite all that Krath venom crap.

I had the same problem the first time I loaded the page. I think I just let it load completely before messing with it, and everything was fine. If you need to install the macromedia stuff, it really depends on what browser you are using, and I think if you don't have it, the browser automatically gives you the option to install it.

After Seeing This I Am Kinda Upset
213374U replied to XboxSithLord's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
How come it's not possible IRL to get a 'silver' colored beam of light? If it's a colour you can see (silver is the color of the light reflected by the metal of the same name), it's because there's a radiation with an associated frequency which the human eye perceives as that color. That said, it shouldn't be more difficult to get a silver beam than a beam of any other color. [/nerd] -
Pleasure droids all the way, baby!
-
Well, the Sith weren't really human in the beginning... they were Sith. So it doesn't make much sense that for some reason they become racist one day. That was just a lame way to make the Sith look more evil. Duh.

What annoyed you about KOTOR's plot?
213374U replied to Ivan the Terrible's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well, I think there are two possible explanations for that. First, the Jedi lied to the PC, plain and simple. Telling the PC all that BS would probably be easier than telling the truth and facing the questions that would arise. After all the Jedi did use you, DS or LS. The other explanation is the Obi-Wan quote about things depending on how you look at them. After all, hate and rage are what drove Malak to betray Revan in the first place. It's a long shot, but I don't think that is a mistake on Bioware's part. What I didn't really like is that you had to go through all the errand-boy stuff in Korriban, if you played it after you discovered your identity. It just doesn't make sense. The Dark Lord of the Sith wouldn't waste his time with such petty matters. He would just instead choke to death anyone who dared to oppose him. -

What, did you actually expect him to kill Obi-Wan? This is SW we're talking about man. "
