  1. Huh? What kind of nonsense is that? I don't know about you, but I'm not getting the game for free. Which means they aren't making the patch in return for nothing. They are making the patch in return for the money people is paying for their game. If they can't afford to make a patch, I can't afford to buy half a game. And about all the legal mumbo-jumbo, that's nothing but speculation so far. I'm not taking that for a fact until I see somebody in green say so.
  2. I find it rather hard to believe that the publisher would actually forbid the development of a patch, but in any case, it's irrelevant. I have seen patches being released by companies without official publisher sanction, and all they had to do was label it an 'unofficial' patch. And anyway, if OE asked for permission to develop a patch on their own, without additional funding, why would LA refuse? Yes, I know LA sucks big time. That's not news. However, I can't say the same for Obsidian, yet. The question here is, are the people at Obsidian actually going to support their work or not? So far, there hasn't been a single developer post in the PC tech support forum. Are you going to tell me that they are not allowed to post there, either?
  3. What was he doing in India, you ask? Well, I think it's called conquest. That's one of the things they used to do in the old times, since they had no video games. And his implication in his father's death is nothing but speculation. If you think there is 'strong evidence', I suggest you write a paper and send it to somebody who can get it publised. You may get a prize or something. Eh. That 'marriage policy' was actually put to practice with great results in Europe during the 15th-18th centuries. So, if you must evaluate that particular decision, Alexander was a visionnaire. I haven't stated that he was without flaws. He is probably one of the most controversial characters of History. But his greatness is undeniable.
  4. False. It's not exclusively dependant on LA funding. Obviously if LA approved and funded a patch there would be one, but it's ultimately up to Obsidian to choose if they want to stand by their product and show some care for customer satisfaction, or just take the cash and run.
  5. Yes, you can. That's right. One morning he woke up and realized it was a nice day to kill some barbarians. So he just took the train for Susa and went to murder some random persians, which thought themselves pretty tough with all their huge empire and stuff. It seems you 'forgot' to mention quite a few things. Namely that he rallied most of the ever-squabbling Helenic nation-states into a pan-helenic alliance, that he was one of those few true military geniuses that History has produced, that he resisted the Persian expansionism that was so close to overrunning the Greek civilization. Like it or not, he was one of those few men whose actions forged the future. That is what made him deserve that 'label'. But all that has no place in your overly simplified world. Or perhaps you were just twisting reality to make a point.
  6. That still doesn't justify the way the influence system works (or rather, the way it *doesn't* work). The NPCs don't have to pretend, because they don't need to sway anyone towards the light or dark side.
  7. Based on their accomplishments, you can. Surely you agree that Alexander the Great was a greater man than you and me. He wasn't called 'the Great' for nothing, you know.
  8. For some reason, I don't see Palps whining about Vader force choking this or that admiral.
  9. Yes, it sucks. No, I'm not going to give a cent to those snake oil salesmen.
  10. Yep. Just like the euro version. No *explicit* sex (either your siring or the flick with Jeanette) and no explicit beheading either. The beheading sequence is screwed badly though, which I think may be the origin of the censorship rumor.
  11. The reason behind its greatness for some, its biggest flaw for others. It's all a matter of taste... you seem to like that, good for you. And um, you say you have a FAQ, my advice is that you get rid of it ASAP and just play the game... that applies to any game.
  12. It's not really the same thing. Religious people can't prove what they believe in, and they claim just to 'know it to be true', because 'faith is a gift'. However, scientific postulates must be proven to be accepted. Until you can prove otherwise, they are true. Granted, science may not have all the answers, and the few answers it does have are perhaps only applicable to the small parcel of reality in which we exist, but within those parameters, science is much more solid than religion. From a pragmatic standpoint, anyway. It all comes down to the old question, what can you believe in, and what is real. You can make up any number of answers for that, and nobody can really prove you wrong, since there isn't an exact definition of reality. However, I for one prefer to believe in what at least seems to be real. That doesn't mean I'm right, even though you need to be able to prove me wrong in order to present an argument. And no, I don't take any drugs.
  13. It seems to me that they are a wee bit biased with all the 'OMG they invented teh PST!!!1' stuff. Nice read while waiting for the game, though.
  14. Yep. What I'm not so sure of is the degree to which that underlying order can be quantified. It isn't very useful if everything can be broken down to a set of factors in an equation, if there are like, an infinite number of them that need to be calculated with um... infinite precision.
  15. Quantum physics and Chaos Theory would disagree, methinks.
  16. A rather unusual combination of conditions that allowed the fragile carbon based life to thrive. In particular, due to some primates' need to grow larger, more complex brains for improved 'hand-eye coordination'. Ironically enough, sentience is a side effect. Biologically speaking, to live long enough to spread your genetic material as much as you can. From a philosophical standpoint, I haven't seen anything yet to convince me that there's such a thing as a 'purpose of life'. Whatever floats your boat. That the entity that is the psyche stops working. It's the default conclusion. Believing random things isn't... logical. When I see something that proves that something different happens, I will believe that. It's easier to accept what others tell you than to think for yourself. Some deep spiritual experience that I'm not bound to have anytime soon.
  17. Welcome to the realm of high-end graphics. A land forbidden to the weak of faith, to the apostates and recreants, aka Xbox owners.
  18. I don't know about gaming eras but dude, your drawings are good! Are you a pro?
  19. You mean you couldn't? I always thought that was an option judging from the dialogue options you get. But then again, you had dialogue options to have her fall to the dark side again. Suckage.
  20. It sucked that she was totally immune to the lure of the dark side and stuff. But I suppose that isn't her fault. <_<
  21. Yup. There was some post by Akari (or perhaps it was MCA? I don't remember) about some of the things that had been cut from the game due to time constraints. Apart from that, nothing relevant that I can think of.
