The beer thread
I'm a hefewiezen fan, although I probably mispelled that. I typically order one whenever I get a steak, as I find it compliments the taste. I drink pretty rarely, so I usually go for the good stuff.

Movies you have seen lately
Be Kind Rewind - funny and heartwarming. I enjoyed it, thought it was pretty clever. Mos Def and Jack Black always entertain me, though, so if you don't care for either then you probably won't like it. The Wicker Man - I tivo'd it and then fast forwarded through a few parts. It was awkwardly directed, and I think the story and cast probably could have pulled of a decent flick if it weren't for the bad directing. It was just terrible in the dialogue department, it really felt like Nicholas Cage and whoever he was interrogating were speaking different languages. Stardust - It had been awhile since I read the book, but I was happy enough with the changes made in the film. I thought it was pretty charming. It wasn't fantastic, but it kept my interest and Claire Danes looked great. It did seem a bit torn about whether to be a children's movie or an adult fantasy. I wish they gave the dead brothers more screen time.

US Presidential Elections
The electoral does help smaller states have an actual impact in the election. Rhode Island and Montana would be a political no man's land without the EC.

Image Making thread
It was still a very nice offer. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, folks.

LOST
I think it helps that we know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Season 3 was kinda like "ok, how long do they plan to draw the series out?" Now that we know there is a six season storyline, you can see how the pacing is working, and I'm excited to be over the halfway mark.

How do you buy your games?
I've actually stopped buying from Gamestop and EB (same corporation) as much as possible. The way they've treated PC gaming as irrelevant has bothered me, considering that's how these boutiques built their businesses in the beginning. It was also getting to the point where if I wanted a certain PC game, I had to pre-order it. I shop at Best Buy as oten as possible. They have a fairly solid PC game selection, even if it means I need to wait an extra couple days to get the title. I also have a local game store that sells console and handheld games, as well as gaming t-shirts. It's nice to support them, since they are just a small business trying to market stuff they enjoy themselves.

Anti Drunk Driving Leader Arrested For DUI
It's not really ironic. She's not an anti-drunk driving activist. She heads a rehabilitation program for people convicted of drunk driving. That's pretty different.

US Presidential Elections
Geez, check out the tremendous list of stuff that LBJ passed when he was in office: 1964: Civil Rights Act of 1964 1964: Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 1964: Wilderness Act 1964: Nurse Training Act 1964: Food Stamp Act of 1964 1964: Economic Opportunity Act 1965: Higher Education Act of 1965 1965: Social Security Act of 1965 1965: Voting Rights Act 1965: Immigration and Nationality Services Act of 1965 1967: Age Discrimination in Employment Act 1967: Public Broadcasting Act of 1967 1968: Bilingual Education Act 1968: Fair housing That's some productivity right there.

What are you playing now?
There's a BG for XBox??? Yeah, it was some arcadey type game. Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance was the name. I thought it was rubbish, but I probably went in expecting too much.

What are you playing now?
I took Advance Wars: Days of Ruin for the DS on vacation recently, and it's a wonderful little game. Squad level TBS games really have had a renaissance on these handhelds.

HALO VS STAR WARS
The only thing I gave Halo was the carbine, since those highly trained strmtroopers couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with the blaster rifles.

Last Drink You Had?
I had a great hefeweizen named Great White Wheat last night. It was a local California brewery, I believe. It had a great lemony tang with a clean aftertaste.

Jagged Alliance 3 ???
The fact that it's using the Silent Storm engine is about the only thing keeping some interest for me. I think it has a shot at being a good modern version of Silent Storm. I don't see it coming close to JA2, but then again, games like those are rare.

Mass Effect is coming to PC
See, if I'd hear more such things, and of people I know that have the same taste in games (which both of you do to some extent), and important: of people in RL, I'd get it I haven't seen anyone on this board that played ME say they didn't enjoy it. I'd say it's fairly well spoken for among this grumpy group.

What are you playing now?
I spent $50 on the Orange box and really only played Portal (plus a couple hours of TF2). Honestly I'd say Portal was worth the money. Plus, I prefer having boxes of stuff. I'm not saying it wouldn't be smarter to go with the $20 for Portal, but I don't think you'll regret it if you spend the extra cash.

You crazy Danes
Good luck with that. If the passage of 2000 years hasnt done it, nothing will. Well, Muhammad was born in 570 CE, so your numbers are a bit off. You might claim that 500 years is no big deal, but the Catholic church wasn't exactly a fountain of comedy when it was 1500 years old.

Hey Look
It really looks more like a license list than a development list.

Pop, it sounds like you don't think the Bull Moose party is ready to resurface. It will!

I got to the spinning wheel level before I gave up.

Why the world continue to militarize
Well said!

Why the world continue to militarize
If the next Adolf Hitler ended up getting elected president of the US, it wouldn't suddenly create a Nazi regime. That type of jump in logic fails to account for all the checks and balances we have in our government. The president really isn't as powerful as people seem to think he is. You have an extremely complex political system at work here, and it's amazing that it keeps on functioning as well as it does, but the reality is that it is extremely resistant to corruption (or some may say there is so much corruption that it all cancels out )

Volournian Early ME Impressions
Probably has to do with art costs. The more complex, the more expensive a printing job tends to be, especially based on what colors are used. The current cover is fairly simple. I really could care less. It's not like I hang my game boxes up for display.

Alright, gentlemen, let's lock it down
This has actually been proven to be one of the best deterrents. Stickers are the way to go.

Its Super Tuesday time
Initially the presidential runner-up became the vice-president, so there is a historical precedent for Sand's scenario. Unfortunately the two political parties (and the people who identify themselves with one party) are too busy waging a pissing contest to ever get along that well.
