  1. EU and japanese populations are also much more co-located than in the US. as a result, it is much easier to implement mass transit (that actually works). living in a city is not always possible in the US. most japanese, OTOH, live in or very near very large metropolitan areas. it is very easy to justify small cars in such places since they don't need them for much as we in the US do. weather in the US varies wildly as well, ranging from desert, to beach to mountain terrain also with significant snowfall in areas not otherwise in the mountains. these terrain differences are separated by hundreds if not thousands of miles to boot. in COS, it is insane to NOT have an SUV. it has snowed nearly non-stop that past 2 months. going anywhere other than denver or pueblo from here requires mountain travel, and depending upon your hobby of choice, significant off-road travel as well. i'd like to see any of you so-called environmentalists get up timber hill in a 40 mpg car. you're naively comparing apples to oranges. taks Extremely true. The SUV's are not really the issue, you can clearly make fuel efficient SUV's. The issue is that the oil companies do everything they can to resist progress. That's their business. They make huge money selling gas, and so they spend a chunk of it buying up technologies that threaten their business. A 1988 CR-X could get 50 miles to the gallon. But the fact is the oil companies have no real reason to support progress. They aren't going to put themselves out of business.
  2. EQ2 level 30
  3. We took our 9 month old daughter to see National Treasure. Before someone flips out (again) it was a special movies with mom event at the theatre. They have it every Monday before noon, and the lights aren't dimmed and the volume isn't quite as rattling. It was pretty fun, although a kid was kicking my seat, but it's tough to complain when my daughter was ga-ga-ing. She slept through the first half, watched for about 10 minutes, and then I walked her around near the door for the rest. The movie was good, at least on a par with the first. Seemed a bit shadier with the history, but whatever sparks interest and all that.
  4. That sounds like a pretty nice set. I always wanted to play the original Gothic even though Gothic 2 never captured my attention, and the demo of 3 seemed pretty solid.
  5. The best game of Arcanum I had was with a mage who was sheltered and frail as a child. There really isn't any weak characters in the game, there are just different approaches to how you play it.
  6. I don't know why anyone would want him to rot, the guy was clearly mentally unstable. I have more pity for him than anything else. His anti-semiticism was just a by-product of a mind that worked much differently than the averge person. I'm not saying it's right, but I'm just surprised anyone would take it seriously.
  7. Well, if you hadn't read the book, then you wouldn't have that expectation.
  8. Actually, that's a pretty mature apology. It takes a lot more guts to admit you are misinformed than it does to just throw up defensive walls. We would get a lot more done if both sides of an argument were willing to listen and try to compromise, and it seems as if this guy is attempting to do so.
  9. Huh, I thought the recent Tomb Raider game was decent. I'm also surprised to hear it didn't sell well, it was one of the early 360 titles and that alone usually helps a game sell copies.
  10. Norton is currently the highest rated in PC World.
  11. Karka, I feel bad for the janitor of that facility. I heard it's Roger Wilco.
  12. I'll be honest, when I play a Bioware game, it's like I've been eating dried jerkey and berries in the woods for a year and I've suddenly been given a double cheeseburger. It tastes awesome. At least that was the way I felt when I played KotOR, JE, and ME. It probably has a bit to do with the fact that there is few and far between in terms of good RPG's. I wasn't has hungry when I played the BG's because it seemed like I was still getting fed regularly.
  13. Eh, or you could just download the demo. I'm not a fan of FPS games, and even though I just bought a new rig, I saw no reason to buy Crysis. The demo was fun from a graphics standpoint, but as a game I had no interest in even finishing the demo.
  14. I'm rooting for a Favre vs. Brady match up. It would be pretty epic. I could see Favre pulling it off.
  15. I believe 'em. The term fundamental is tacked onto these people for a reason. Nothing is good when taken to the extreme, whether it's religion or atheism or whatever.
  16. That's not true, quite a few games have been released as Freeware that used to be commercial titles. Lately some fairly recent games have been released for free download as well, like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and FarCry (albeit with advertisements built in.) Some games are even re-worked by fans to make them playable on todays systems, like SCUMM and the Sierra adventure games. In fact I'm surprised that more publishers don't release old titles for free download, it would give them a good idea about what properties still have enough interest to warrant a new version.
  17. Yogurt also prevents vaginal irritation. I'm serious. edit: And I mean eating it, you sick people.
  18. What happened to the Rangers anyway? It seems like just a couple weeks ago they were fighting for the division, and now they are in the cellar.
  19. I only said Bargain bin for JE because it's an older game. I enjoyed it tremendously.
  20. Well, if you are getting a shiny new rig, you should get a game that will test it a bit, and from that list I'd say The Witcher is highest end game. It's also just a great RPG. MotB is also great, but graphically I wouldn't say it compares as well. I'd buy Jade Empire at a discount if possible. I think it's great too, but it's older and shouldn't be bought at full price.
  21. Shoot 'em up - Maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind for this movie, but I found it unwatchable. I gave it twenty minutes, then I fast forwarded through most of it and found nothing really appealing. Sure, the action scenes were ok, but I found myself uncomfortable with the baby being in the middle of a gunfight, and everything else was just bad. The dialogue cheesy, which I wouldn't mind, but the whole circumstances around most of the scenes made me feel icky. And does formula not exist in this bizarre world?
  22. Other than going back to a format of at least one from each team, I think these are all solid choices. I'm actually surprised at how solid they are, they were clearly all chosen on this seasons merits rather than the past. Part of me wants to see Jagr or Shanny at another game, but I like the idea of letting new guys show off.
  23. I doubt anyone is willing to throw away money to see it here... It's a shame because I typically like anything Jason Statham does, even the cheesy stuff, but there is no way DS is watchable.
  24. Is that the crazy fan? I didn't trust that guy at all, I kept expecting something terrible to happen just because I signed something for him. Seriously, I contemplated shooting him just to be safe.
